Great game Mobiggins....crazy finish too.
DSP Cup: Lazio vs. Fiorentina
(Stadio Olimpico) In what proved to be a dramatic contest, Fiorentina was able to wipe away some of the painful memories of its league play with an impressive 3-2 over Lazio in the first round of the DSP Cup.
Lazio was first to strike on the evening with a nice finish by DiCarno at the 44th minute. He took the ball well, turned away from the defender with ease and scored his first of two goals of the evening.
However, the rest of the match was largely controlled by Fiorentina. A flurry of goals: Donadel (66' volley off a cross) Brocchi (73' deadly strike to the top corner) and Donadel again (78' beautiful strike from outside the box) seemed to be all that Fiorentina would need on the night.
However, Lazio, in a last gasp effort managed to turn on the pressure in the dying moments. A nice through ball led to DiCarno's second goal at the 89' minute followed by a near miss that almost tied it. It was a valiant effort.

Thanks. I thought you had it tied there at the end. I would have wept myself to sleep.mobiggins wrote:Good game. Frustrating for me. I seemed to be losing a lot of the 50/50 battles. My guys were asleep. The lag was a bit annoying the second half. Still, you had some masterful goals there.
I didn't have any lag on my end..Sorry that it was in issue for you.
OK gang:
The second-half schedule is now up. The deadline for Season Four is Sunday, September 17. Please do your best to get your games done by the deadline. Extensions will be liberally granted, but must be requested.
I have awarded forfeit losses to AC Milan for their first half games. If trane shows up and plays his second half games, he can continue in the league. However, if he remains a no-show in this thread and the league, Milan will be back in the Top Tier pool for the close season team draws before next season.
Also, there are only two games remaining in the first round of the Inaugural DSP WE League Cup. Pigpen and XXXIV, Azpaco and stevieg, please play your First Round games as soon as possible so I can do the draw for the Second Round. Note that bookings in Cup games will only count for future Cup games, but injuries carry over from League to Cup and vice-versa.
Good luck, and play fair!

Stuttgart found themselves sitting in the relegation zone starting the second leg of the season. Points were a must when Manchester City came to visit Sunday night. Last week City handled Stuttgart from start to finish in a 4-0 drubbing of the side from Germany.
The match started with Stuttgart on the prowl. Well placed passes near the city box led to a couple of good chances within the first 15 minutes. At the 31 minute mark City countered and a perfect through ball found it's target behind the Stuttgart back line. A one on one opportunity was vaporized on a bold move my Stuttgart CB Meira who took down the City striker a foot outside the box. The ref did not hesitate in showing a red card to Meira who seemingly new it was coming and showed no emotion as he left the pitch. The home crowd fell silent as the wounds were still open from last weeks thrashing at the hands of the same City side. It was surely only a matter of time before that scene was recreated.
Stuttgart changed it's formation in an attempt to keep City at arms length. The move may have paid off as smart play and a mistake or two by City kept the sides close and the first half ended level at zero.
By the time the teams took the pitch for the second half, the Stuttgart choir was in full chorus, chanting and singing for their home side to continue their solid, short handed effort.
City opened the half with a dedicated performance deep in the Stuttgart side of the pitch. Quick defending, a great save and a few close calls later Stuttgart regained their composure and settled in to defend their home turf.
The rest of the match was a nip tuck affair. City failing to exploit the man advantage while Stuttgart was able to find a couple of more scoring opportunities that could have sent the home fans home happy. As the whistle blew the Stuttgart fans were in a frenzy and one could sense that they were celebrating a victory of sorts.
Coach Fifa Inspected had this to say about his side:
"I'm very proud of this club. After the beating City laid on us last week we could have rolled over after that red card. Needless to say, we dug deep and I saw some real determination in our side tonight. I'd also like to thank our fans for playing their role to perfection tonight, the stadium was alive with sound and enegry and our boys fed off of that."

Zep - Thanks for tracking me down tonight, that was a very entertaining match. Unlike other Matches i've played against you, it really seemed as if your side never found their groove.
Good luck the rest of the season!

Monaco and Lazio play home/home corkers!
Monaco twice came back from 2 goals down to spoil Lazio's party. In the first game at Parc des Princes, Lazio raced out to a 1-0 lead 17 minutes in on Rocchi's strike which he would repeat at the 62 minute mark. After that, Lazio's keeper fell asleep as he allowed Chevanton's weak ground shot from outside the box to sneak past him and also gifted one to the same five minutes later on a shot that he could have easily parried away.
The rest of the game the two sides traded credible chances but neither team could convert.

The story at Stadio Olimpico was much the same, although local fans and media felt that Lazio put forth a better effort and deserved to win. DiCanio started out the festivities for the home side just before the half, and Filipini had them comfortably out 2 goals just after the half. Not long after, though, Meriem answered for the monegasque side, a goal that likely pressured the italians into conceding the penalty in the 79th minute. Cheeky Chevanton fired it straight down the middle, fooling the italian keeper, who dove just to his right. The action that followed favored Lazio, but tired legs likely led to a lack of goals after that point.
