I still play at least a couple of games a week on my PSP version (sleep mode is the greatest gaming invention ever for a 36 year old father of 2).

What in my mind makes MLB 06 the best baseball game is the ball physics. Its one of the rare sports games that feels like there is a live ball in play and that I'm not just watching a canned result. I've had the game since release and I still see new types of hits, fouls, etc. Just the other day I had a batter hit a real high, short chop to the left of the pitcher that took long enough to come down that the pitcher had no play at first. First time I've seen a hit that high and short in all the months I've had the game, and I remember thinking to myself that I would never see that type of hit in MVP or High Heat. Just that alone keeps the game fresh and fun.

MLB 06 is definitely one of those rare games that has a whole bunch of lasting power.

The ball physics in MLB may be better than MVP, but the hit variety in MVP was what made it truely special. MLB is still mostly hard hit line drives. It is much better than last year, but it still isn't quite as good as MVP.

I disagree, but thats ok. I feel like I'm playing baseball with MLB. I never really got that feeling with MVP. A very good game but its no MLB. Again, just my opinion.

I gotta disagree pretty strongly. Like other posters, I'm still seeing new stuff nearly 100 games in. Never happened for me with MVP. High choppers, texas leaguers, long shots down the line that hook foul, broken bat infield singles, it's all pretty amazing.

The line drive comments were true last year but I'm definitely not noticing any surplus this year.

I miss the throwing meter from MVP, but that's about it. In addition to the better overall gameplay, all the little touches in MLB like working scoreboard, home run ricochets and the incredible number of player-specific animations, more than make up for the lack of a throwing meter.

You guys can disagree all you want...that doesn't make MLB a better game in my eyes. I love it...just not like I loved MVP.

Hall of Fame difficulty.
Tight strike zone.
CPU pitch speed to 0 ( fastballs were blowing me away too often).
Downed human contact/power by a 2 clicks.
Set arm strength/accuracy to about 4 clicks (from the left).
I also maxed out pitch count.

Playing as the Red Sox, my typical offense line looks something like 5 runs, 10 hits, 6 strikeouts.

All the CPU hitting sliders are at HOF default. My good pitchers are striking out hitters (Schilling gets about 5-7 per start, Beckett 4-6 per start)... but my bullpen is getting shelled.

Except Papelbon :D
Interesting, so you left Human pitch speed alone?

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'm gonna mess around with some of these in Franchise mode.
I lowered pitch speed so it was slower when I hit. Otherwise, it's default speed when I pitch.

The more I play, the more errors I see (in a good, realistic sense). In the 20+ exhibitions I played, I never booted a ground ball. I've let 4 squirt away in my last two games. Love it.

I think the hit variety is probably slightly better in MVP than MLB but once you lower the pitch speed in MLB you start seeing a lot more hit variety. At default speed it seemed like there were too many hard line drives to CF. One thing that I always hated about MVP were all the little bloops between second base and short right where the second basemen would dive and make the play every time.

They both play a great game of baseball but MLB has got so much more going for it aesthetically that I can't go back to MVP, which I find to be the driest and dullest game EA has put out in the past 5 years, at this point.

I am enjoying my Jays season. The only reason why I would pick MVP as a better overall baseball experience is because sometimes, I still have the CPU scoring on me on pass balls that are actually well pitched. Those runs make me say, come on Sony, score the hard way.

The remarkable thing is how un-gimmicky the game is, especially when compared to a game like MLB 2K6. No throwing meters (besides the pitching one), no fancy batting system, etc. Just really good presentation, a tough pitching system (giving up two or three unintentional walks is not out of the question in my case), players who generally look like themselves, and the general feel of baseball. And career mode is the jam... even though my eyetoy created player looks like a burn victim with water on the brain.

The Show's roster support throughout the year has been fantastic, too. I don't know how frequently they update, but it is often.

I, too, love The Show on my PSP. For the life of me, however, I can't pitch worth a darn.

I play as the SF Giants. Granted, not a great year...but my pitching gets SHELLED every game. I've tried every level except Rookie, and I've also tried every slider set imaginable.

Currently I am playing on All Star at default. My goal is to give up less than 10 hits in a single game. This has yet to happen.

I try to mix up speeds (via both pitch selection and meter spots). I also try to mix up locations...but every time I go "high" the pitch either gets creamed or the announcers fuss at me for not keeping the ball down. When I go down, however, I also get hit.

I have also tried varying the spot in which I end the pitch. This doesn't seem to help either.

Please, anyone with advise/tips. I'm not a newbie when it comes to baseball or video baseball, but this has had me stumped for months now.

Thanks

drbaseball,

Are you using the pitch cursor? Classic or metered pitching? Strike zone on? Hot/Cold zones? What pitching view?

It's not uncommon to give up 10 hits almost every game, especially if you are only walking 1-3. Are you also giving up a ton of runs?

I am using metered pitching. Haven't tried classic.

Yes, I am using the cursor. I also have the strike zone on as well as hot/cold zones.

Chris, if you really are part of the team, I have 1 HUGE request for next years PSP version. Please include roster editing and a fantasy draft!! This has been the 1 thing that has bugged me all year about the Show.

Any details on the PSP version yet? I have zero interest in the PS3 if most features translate to the PSP.

Sadly, this game has made me consider a PS3. I love this series. The player specific swing animations are superb. The new features sound great.
