There's a thread over at OS that says playing Madden with the memory card rather than the hard drive helps in ridding of the choppiness. I tried it and I'm seeing a pretty significant difference. It doesn't get rid of all the choppiness, but the responsiveness of the controls feel a lot better. I'm no longer pressing down on the "A" button repeatedly to get through cut scenes. The menus seem to pop up a lot faster, as well as getting to the gameplay after choosing a play. Also, the cut scenes are much much smoother.
I might just have to go out and purchase a memory card now!

Err..choppiness? I didn't notice any at all. Interesting.sportdan30 wrote:There's a thread over at OS that says playing Madden with the memory card rather than the hard drive helps in ridding of the choppiness. It's definitely that way. Just played another game and tested it on purpose. Left Trigger+Right Stick will always do the commit. When I start a play on defense I'm usually pulling the LT anyway, so that's why it's always worked for me.TheTruth wrote:Hmm..will have to give this a try.TCrouch wrote:I'm pretty sure I did some commits by pulling the Left Trigger and THEN using the right stick. LT+Down on the R stick for run, up for pass within a second after the snap. The R stick alone sends you into a hit stick animation.

That's a great idea. It seems like the hard drive thrashes constantly. That would be a big improvement.sportdan30 wrote:There's a thread over at OS that says playing Madden with the memory card rather than the hard drive helps in ridding of the choppiness. Wonder if the potential hard drive issue could be patched as well. I sure as hell am not going to drop another $40 to buy a stupid memory card so I can eliminate choppiness on a $60 game on a $400 console.
Played a quarter of Vikings vs. Ravens. Trying to move the ball on that defense was an exercise in frustration. Watching a little of the preseason tonight, it looks familiar!

I just read that thread and it unfortunately seems pretty inconclusive. Someone reported removing the hard drive and getting great results. Some people removed it and the game's still choppy. Some people are saying the game isn't choppy for them WITH the hard drive. I have no idea what's going on (it's choppy for me, that's for sure). Plus, you actually have to disconnect the hard drive--it's not just using a memory card. At least, if I'm reading the thread correctly that's what they're saying.

For me, it doesn't eliminate all the choppiness. However, it does seem at least to lessen the time it takes to get back to the action after choosing a play, as well as hitting the A button after a play to bypass the cut scene.billharris44 wrote:I just read that thread and it unfortunately seems pretty inconclusive. Just got my first DDE this morning, right in the middle of a game. WTF is up that? I thought the whole DDE thing was supposed to be limited to last gen consoles built with "the Thompson drives." Guess that was a crock of s***. Anyone know who is at fault for this issue (MS or EA)? If it's an MS issue, that's just as bad as building a new engine and leaving Mario Running in the game, IMO.

I did disconnect my hard drive. Since I do not have a memory card at this time, I simply ran it with no saved profile. By the way, I also went in to the system tab under hard drive and performed maintenance on it before I played. I don't know if this helped or not, but I read where others tried it.billharris44 wrote:Dan, so did you actually disconnect your hard drive? If not, how do you specify that the game uses the memory card instead? I've got a memory card, so it would be no problem to use it.
I'm in total agreement here. The gameplay is smooth so I guess I'll have to deal with the choppieness in between plays. It's amazing at the poor quality a game like Madden ships for the 360.Dave wrote:Wonder if the potential hard drive issue could be patched as well. The game has been fun, but I was expecting so much more when thinking of this game as I purchased my 360 awhile back.
Choppiness, I call stuttering in between the menu and cut scenes but it's there. Thanks for the heads up Dan, although personally I wish they would fix the problem with a patch rather that forking another $30-40 bucks for a memory card.sportdan30 wrote:Not choppiness during the gameplay, but between plays.
Playing the PC version I had four picks by one DB as Buffalo against New England, 3 of which the DB returned for touchdowns! I'm a little worried about the number of turnovers I'm seeing in the game - the AI threw for 6 picks overall (3 by Brady before he was injured).
Hopefully this is just a one off game. However, are any of you seeing too many interceptions by the AI?
Best wishes,
Doug

I've been playing the PC version and getting good results with Human Awareness at 10, Knockdowns at 10, Interceptions at 25, and Tackling at 35 on All-Pro. Like last year, the CPU QBs don't make very fast or efficient decisions if you leave your defense at default.dougb wrote:Playing the PC version I had four picks by one DB as Buffalo against New England, 3 of which the DB returned for touchdowns! After netting 4 sacks and 2 picks in the first half of my first game, I made the changes above and the game plays a more balanced game of football thus far. I still need to get more games under my belt before I decide if the PC version is going to be the one I stick with this season.

I'll play a few more games and then try your settings. I'm playing Miami right now and Culpepper's been causing me a lot more problems (particularly scrambling out of the pocket).

Okay, for you guys with the PC version (damn it, I can't believe I'm considering trying a different version when the 360 version was so hosed): --can you set a custom camera angle? And can you adjust the camera angles in Superstar mode?
--if you just snap the ball on offense, will the QB automatically handle the play if you don't take control (on passing plays)?
Thanks.

Bill,
I believe that there are 5-6 camera views (long, zoom, madden, classic - can't remember the other one or two). I don't believe that the camera is customizable on superstar mode.
The quarterback can be set for automatic passing.
Best wishes,
Doug
