I was bummed that I wasn't able to watch tonight's game...

until I got in the car and heard the score.

Hopefully Garza's next start goes a little better. Sounds like he kicked ass getting to 2 outs each inning at least

More importantly, the equipment manager must have left the team's bats in Detroit.

Jays have been great against the Twins and with the recent slide by the Bosox, the wildcard race is becoming more exciting. Maybe a little too little too late?

Dodgers are HOT.

I sure love watching the Phils kickin' the sewer crap out of those Metropolitans :)

Pedro...GONE!

El Duque...GONE!

Of course, with the Phillies' luck, this pretty much sures up that the Mets will go on a 10-game winning streak and we will lose 10 of the next 15 :(

Ryan Howard threatened by a Mets fan...

http://www.philly.com/mld/dailynews/sports/15275990.htm

Howard yesterday confirmed that, about 4 weeks ago, he was made aware of a letter to him whose sender threatened to shoot him and cripple him.

"He said he wouldn't kill me; he'd put me in a wheelchair," Howard said.

The letter, according to Howard, was postmarked Scranton, where Howard starred as recently as last season for the Phillies' Triple A team. Howard said the sender was a Mets fan who opined that Mets third baseman and Derby finalist David Wright deserved to win instead of Howard.

"It didn't bother me," Howard said. "If he's writing letters like that, that dude's got bigger problems than me."

That's pretty sad.

I've enjoyed the last two games. At least we're witnessing what will be the Mets downfall in the postseason. They have all the talent in the world on offense, but their pitching is horrible.

I'll be sad if the Mets get sent home early in October, but not surprised. The planets would have to align for this rotation of senior citizens to string together some dependable starts in a short series.

Perhaps my declaration that their pitching is terrible was a little harsh. They've got some nice arms in the bullpen, though being without Sanchez hurts more than most people think. The rotation, well, they've held up well against the NL, but that's really not saying much. Consider that the top 5 offenses are in the AL, and it really brings their overall ERA into perspective. I wouldn't be shocked to see the Mets escape the NL, and advance to the World Series, but I'd give them next to no chance against any AL playoff team.

The bullpen has been nice. One thing I've seen a ton of from the Mets this year is the ability to overcome bad starts and come away with wins. Even if they go down early by 3 or 4 runs, guys like Darren Oliver have been great at coming in and limiting the damage, letting the offense do its thing. However I don't see that working in the post-season. The Met offense which has been very capable of putting up 6 o r 7 runs against run-of-the-mill NL teams might be lucky to get 3 or 4 against top shelf pitching night after night.

After the Marlins run in 2003 though, I feel like anything can happen. But they had young arms in the starting rotation, the one thing the Mets don't. Can we kidnap Scott Kazmir, give him a big, distracting moustache and a new name and rush him back through the farm system under an alias? Rob Neyer made an interesting point the other day that there's no use pining for Kazmir, as that was a necessary evil which finally brought about the much needed restructuring of management in Wilpon-land. And even with these pitching woes, it's been a really fun season. The entire feeling in the organization with Willie and Minaya is just light years away from the Howe/Phillips/Duquette days. Though I guess I have to give Phillips props for the success in the late 90's, but thinking of that Vaughn/Alomar/Burnitz lost season really chaps my @ss.

It was funny stuff. And yes the Bosox are slumping, just what the Jays need as the race for the wildcard spot heats up.

Man, not only did the Phils take the series over the Mets...they took it in pretty convincing style. I like it.

Here's to a sweep tomorrow afternoon! 8)

Mets bats the last 7 days = zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Looks like everyone decided to go on a funk at the sametime. Oh well, the bats will get going eventually. Still, the Mets have a confrotable lead in the East and should hold on to best record in the NL. All I care is for the Mets to get to october healthy.

Glavine looks like his past his struggles. He pitched very well yesterday, but Leiber was better.

As the race for the wild card spot heats up, Jays trade E. Hinske to the Bosox. Strange deal as they are both in the same division with a chance to catch the NYY or for a place in the wild card race, although Hinske never really had a place in the starting lineup.

Since I try to avoid most in-depth Red Sox coverage, I could be wrong, but I don't see a regular place in the starting lineup for Hinske in that lineup either.

Who else is fired up that it looks like three of five Yankees-Red Sox games will be nationally televised?!? God forbid they show someone besides those two teams, like say Twins v. White Sox, this weekend. I'm surprised ESPN isn't busting out the always-special multi-channel coverage for Sunday night's game.

In the beginning he didn't want to move from 2nd base to LF. But A. Soriano is one of those guys with a total package of power and speed. Another season of 30 and 30 for the fourth time in his career. Actually I think he's a HR short of 40 HR's. And he's playing still for the Nats, imagine him back in a Yankee uniform.

The Mets could be in trouble depending on Glavine's diagnosis--doesn't sound good.

HUGE four-game series between the White Sox and Tigers starting tonight. The Sox could sneak back into the thick of the AL Central race with a dominant series. I'm hoping for a split while the Twins head to Baltimore and hopefully take care of business.

I hope for Tommy's sake that it's not serious and that he can comeback to pitch again this year or atleast next year. What a sad way to end such a great career if that was the case.

Even without Glavine, I still feel the Mets can at least get to the WS. After that, even with Glavine, beating any of the contending AL teams would have been a very tough task.

Two teams going into opposite directions. The Yankees could sweep the Bosox with their fifth game today. Since the trade deadline and the acquisition of Abreu, NY led the division and is now 5 1/2 games in front. What's probably troubilng the Bosox's fans is not so much these losses but the way they lost. The bullpen is a problem and they miss J. Varitek.

Jays are still inconsistent. They are 9 games behind the Yankees.

Beer Belly Wells is out there battling today... keeping the Yanks off balance like only he can. Ramirez is going to get tired of being on base before this series ends with all the walks he's getting and hits he's clubbing... he's surged to #1 in the AL in both OBP and OPS...
