I was thinking the guy buying the cotton candy was PK. He's probably rebuying the same cotton candy for the 50th time after selling it off the other 49 times :)

It's not brickyard related. I've seen him post quite a few times at OS today and yesterday.

I can't believe this thread is 2 pages long. He is alive and well since he is causing trouble over at OS :) So if you were concerned about his health don't be. As to why he is not posting here, I really don't care it is his choice and none of my business. If you need to know that bad message him at OS.

Before he left he posted that he didn't like the way DSP was going, especially with the thread police. My comment in the Buffalo GM thread must have been the straw that broke the camel's back. It was one of the only times I've ever made a thread police-type comment and I thought I was cool about it but apparently I wasn't. He stepped down as mod and shortly thereafter stopped posting here. It has nothing to do with work, if you want to blame someone blame me. Hopefully the pull of DSP will be to great for pk too resist and he'll come back. If not, I'm sorry.

I really don't think you need to apologize. If people are really mad at you I'll be shocked.

I didn't even read that thread until now. I had no idea!

I guess I am to blame as well for my attempt at "thread policing" by complaining about all the soccer posts. It was getting to the point where it was pretty much a soccer forum here. I found myself spending more time at OS myself back then. I *like* soccer. In fact, I just ordered Fox Soccer Channel (have to pay an extra $5 a month here). But I come to DSP for sports gaming and it just seemed so cluttered with soccer posts that it was tough to find a decent discussion on videogames or other OT subjects. At one point I had decided that once football season started I was going to make this an American football forum...LOL. I was going to start threads like, "Hey, HipE how about that Steelers opening game?", "Monday Night Football Thread", "Spoiler: Florida State vs. Miami", "Dallas Cowboys and TO: The post mortem begins", "PIAA District 3 Friday Night Recap", "NBC Secures Rights to Sunday Night Football", "Interesting column about the Big Ten's offensive woes", "This has to break Zeppo's Heart: Redskins start 0-1", "Minnesota Vikings Kit change discussion", etc. But instead of doing that I did what I thought was the mature thing to do and just made a peaceful plea for reigning in the out-of-control soccer threads.

To steal a line from Dennis Miller, if Scoop's comments bothered PK then something was going to get him anyway...a delinquent tax return or possibly a low-flying airplane. It seems like he just needed a break and this was a good excuse. I love OS for the content and I *understand* why they have to moderate it so heavily, but it's not exactly the place I want to hang out to avoid thread policing.

Scoop.......trust me, it wasn't one isolated comment you made that drove him away. It was building before that for a long time. He has nothing against you. You were just trying to jump in and do the right thing. The problem is that other "non-moderators" like to chime in at every opportunity and it was getting old fast. I don't blame him for moving on. All the "police-ing" takes the fun out of this place and we end up in pissing matches about what belongs and what doesn't. I have to say that things have been much better recently, but that could also be due to the lack of postings lately. This board has been real slow lately, but I'm sure that will pick up with the Sept hockey and football releases.

I agree, Jack. One of the things that makes this place a great community to be a part of is the lack of need for moderation. So when non moderators start moderating, it gets old fast. What little bit of moderating that needs to be done should be left to the official moderators and no one else. No one person can make or break a message board, but if pk doesn't come back, this place will be a lot poorer as a result.

Agree. I am also against this quick "thread locking" policy, like what just happened in the "terror threat" thread. Why can't the moderators step in, explain what is needed and give a warning that they will lock it unless the people involved stop what they are doing. This instant "thread locking" policy is a bit heavy handed IMO. Can't we have "heated discussions" like people sometimes do in real life? I agree that personal attacks shouldn't be allowed here, but the conversation should be allowed to continue. Locking the thread punishes all those that wish to contribute to the discussion. PM the offending parties and warn them, but stop the thread locking for God's sakes! Why punish everyone?

I think the forum had slowed down a lot the last few months. Maybe because its summer?

But also I've seen the same posters here posting the last 6 months or so. Seems like 5-8 people do most of the posting. I remember before the forum use to have more new people join.

It has slowed down no doubt. I for one, have not posted near as much as I usually do. But that has nothing to do with the subject at hand.

I love this place and only post when needed (if it is a subject I like), if it is something not interesting to me, I simply lurk, nothing more.

Forum always slows down during the summer. Things don't pick up usually until football season starts.

As for thread locking, I use my judgment as to whether lines have been crossed in a thread. If a thread looks like it will devolve into nothing but personal attacks, then I lock it. It's much better to do that instead of letting people go off on each other. In that thread, it was clear that it had become personal, so I locked it.

I have absolutely nothing against "heated discussions", and anyone who's been around the forums for a while knows that I allow many heated discussions. Note that some of the other sports gaming forums don't even allow discussions about politics because of the potential for animosity and chaos. I think it's fine to allow it, but lines have to be drawn somewhere.

If you think that our policy is harsh...then I really don't know what to say. We tend to be much more liberal about posting policy and thread locking than most forums. But I will be happy to discuss this further if people think my moderation/locking is too harsh.

And to keep the thread on topic....

Hope you come back PK.

Didn't PK say something about heading out to Iowa? I swear I remember him saying that the presidential election was fast approaching and that he and 100,000 "Hilary for President" bumperstickers were heading for Iowa and that he wouldn't stop until each of them had a home.

What happens first: PK's return from the wilderness or Jared finally getting voice-enabled on XBL again?

An anxious world awaits the outcome...
