OT: Calendar Plug

Post by Jason »

My boss started another division of our company called SurfGeeks.com and we've spent the last 6 months putting together a tech/girlie calendar for tech guys.

This entire project was done by three people (me, my boss and another employee) from start to finish with no professional experience or help. We found the models, shot the pictures in our office and designed the final images in Photoshop.

Here's a link to the product for anyone that might be interested: http://www.surfgeeks.com/sgshop/scripts ... product=24.

Any comments would be welcomed too.

Anyway to see what each month holds? I can't even enlarge that back cover shot to see what you've done.

Let me say good luck with this, I tried a calendar about 3 years ago with a friend who happened to be a dancer. It didn't make a lot of money, so I hope you have much better luck.

Thanks.

You can view the poster images of each calendar month from this link: http://www.surfgeeks.com/sgshop/scripts ... egory=1225. You see a much larger image of each month.

We thought about adding the option to view larger images of each month from the calendar details page and your comment has convinced us to do it.

Nicely produced Jason.

If i were going to give you any advice I would say this. The reason the girls calendar didn't do well that I helped her with is due to lack of people knowing about it. Calendars, at least IMO are impulse buys.

Getting them into a bookstore chain will get you sales, but that takes work. I don't know much about surfgeeks, when I think of computer / techie gadgets i want i go to thinkgeek.com. I know all my geek buddies do too :) I assume that you would be considered a competitor of theirs, if you aren't getting on think geek will get you a lot more sales.

Again good luck.

Thanks for the tips Dan.

We've submitted copies of the calendar to Barnes & Noble, Amazon.com and Borders. We also have a list of distributors that we're going to send copies to. We ordered 5,000 initial copies and plan on giving a lot away.

I don't really think we are/will be a competitor to ThinkGeek because we're going to focus more on graphic work.

I'm adding a thumbnail preview feature to the site tonight so that all of the months will be displayed as a large image when you move your mouse over the thumbnails.

Thanks for the compliment.

A basic thumbnail gallery is now available from the calendar details page.

I just wanted to mention that Calendars.com placed an initial order for 1200 calendars and should have them online and in their stores nationwide in 2-3 weeks.

Sudz, I checked out your site (www.lulu.com), but it seemed a bit expensive to print each calendar.
