Anybody still playing MLB2k4?

Post by fanatic »

Thinking about picking a baseball game up for the xbox.

Looking for an "old school" type of game with updated rosters- 2K3, 2k4 and High Heat are all options.

I saw someone at OS who is working on updated rosters, but not sure if anyone has some for any of these games already.

Thanks guys.

2K4 was a great playing baseball game. All they needed to do was spruce up the animations and graphics, and the franchise would have been set. Instead, Kush took it over, broke the game, and added a whole bunch of gimmicks to the gameplay.

Don't play that one anymore, as The Show has really satisfied my baseball jones. Can't wait to see how this series progresses.

You know what, I borrowed a friend's PS2 just to play The Show. However, it looks really poor on my LCD set and just makes hitting almost impossible to enjoy. I could invest in some component cables I know, but it seems like a lot to go through for this one game. Not even sure it would make a big enough difference.

I know what you mean. PS2 games look like crap on mine as well. I have to play it on my standard bedroom TV.

I still play MLB 2K4. I have played 97 games so far (54-43) in my current season.

Do you happen to have any updated roster files?

I've played through 3 seasons of 2K4 now using snate's sliders. I've been looking for an update myself.

Is there an Expos->Nationals slider? I think I'd rather just keep on hacking RBI Baseball for my nostalgia fix. I loved that game (ESPN 2K4) but I can't see myself going back to it after playing MVP 2005 and MLB 06. Gameplay has moved on too much in baseball games... although I periodically do miss the cursor from 2K4. The rest of the game is just downright creaky compared to modern games.

I picked up 2k4 just a couple of hours ago- $14.99 (CDN).

First off, the fact that it plays in 720p is sweet! Picture is amazingly crisp and vibrant. It goes a long way in compensating for the lackluster animations/faces.

Gameplay seems very solid. Feels like the AI is pretty sound too....

I love that in today's next gen atmosphere, I can get a tonne of enjoyment from 3 year old titles. I honestly think that this game, WE9, Rugby06, NFL2k5 and Toca2 (I will end up getting #3 eventually) could keep me going until I'm ready to make the next gen leap.

I guess it's like they say, "ignorance is bliss".

There are people who are happy with older titles, or current gen stuff, which is cool. But a lot of that stuff is hard to go back to once you get used to newer titles/systems, etc.

As much as I loved HH, I can't go back to it today.

I think it's also the case that these older titles had a lot of their kinks worked out by the time they hit the shelves. WE9 and NFL2k for example, were well tuned games far into the current gen. MLB2K4 had a better developer at the helm and Toca was just all about authenticity. With current gen, it's going to take a little while more to get that type of variation.

I would think that a jump to next-gen in the next year is coming for me (money situation pending), but just wanted to state how content I was in my current situation. Trust me though, I drool over the thought of playing 360 games like NBA2k7 and a few others.

No, I am playing with the same team in GM mode that I choose when I bought the game in 2004. This is my second season. I did not play the game last year and so I am playing the 2005 season.
