Saint's Row Demo
After reading on OS about the demo (you can get at EB), I picked up the demo on Sunday and played the game for about 2 or 3 hours! It's definitely has the GTA roots, but the graphics and the atmosphere are very unique. Mind you this is coming from a person who hasn't played a GTA game since the PS2, so I really had a lot fun with the game. I think the game will definitely have it's own following.

Finally got my OXM and checked out the demo last night. There's no doubt it's a GTA clone but it seems to be a good GTA clone. Also, it addresses some of the issues I have with the GTA series (namely control). I love how you can actually aim with the right analog stick instead of auto-aiming by pressing a button. If you're sick of the GTA series this game will do nothing for you but if you're still into games like that it should be a no-brainer.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

First off, let me say there are GTA ripoffs and then there are GTA *RIPOFFS* and this is a GTA *RIPOFF*. Everything from the sassy street talk from the people walking by on the street, to the parody of popular culture, to the multiple radio stations, this is a GTA clone through and through.
A couple more random thoughts, some good and bad:
-Graphics are pretty sharp, especially when compared to GTA (obviously). It's fun to just walk around and marvel at the world. Explosions look good, too.
-The options to create your character seem VERY comprehensive, although many of the options were locked out of the demo.
-Targeting, while not great, seems OK. Instead of locking on to characters, you more or less aim and shoot like any shooter you've played. These types of open ended 3D games seem to all have the same problem with perfecting a targeting system (even GTA) so it is what it is.
-This is a VERY mature game. F-bombs galore. I think the subject matter of these urban games is getting a little tiring to me. I guess it has something to do with growing up, but all the "ho" and "cap in yo' ass" talk gets creepy after a while.
-I also wonder after playing 3 GTA's and other clones if this type of game is really appealing anymore. Definitely had a "been there done that" feeling after just a few minutes with it. Probably not a good sign.
So those are my thoughts. From a techical standpoint, I was more impressed with SR than I thought I would be, but I'm not sure if I want to get deeply involved with a game like this again.
