Chipper Jones tying the major league record for consecutive games with an extra base hit doesn't suck. It's only been around for 79 years. 14 games straight...ties the record set in 1927. Goes for the record breaker tomorrow.

It's a pretty impressive record, but one that I had no idea existed before yesterday. It gives MLB something to base the Braves 2006 highlight video around.

It ain't over yet...Braves have the best record in baseball in July. If they make the playoffs, it'll be a successful year. Only 5 out of the wild card, so there is still plenty of time.

In the National League, everyone seems to be within 5 of the Wild Card. Some AL teams might be able to make a killing trading to NL hopefuls this year. Anyone want Rondell White?

Awesome performance by the Cubs tonight.

With the awful bullpen the Braves have, I think your right.

I really have no idea how the Reds have a worse pen. It seems impossible to me. Supposedly the Braves are going to trade Betemit to San Diego for Leinbrink, so that can't hurt. They can't keep running Jorge Sosa out there in the 9th...he's a disaster waiting to happen. Hell, he blew TWO saves (impossible, but you get the point) in one game.

Hell of an effort tonight by Chipper. I thought that shot to center was it. Anyway, he still owns part of the record.

I'd much rather him go 3 for 5 every night than have that record all to himself. I'm a big fan of the new Busch...apparently the Braves hitters are too.

Big series starting tonight, Tigers/White Sox. Should be interesting.

And don't look now but the Yankees are only 2.5 back in the wild card. I guess it's not exactly a lock that the wild card will come from the Central.

I hope the Tigers sweep the Sox. No one appears to have a shot at catching Detroit, so bring the White Sox back to the Yankees/Jays/Twins in the Wild Card standings.

Although the Twins have put three outfielders (Torii Hunter, Shannon Stewart, and Lew Ford) on the DL in the past week, so I'm not sure about their chances.

I know the Sox have been sloppy lately but I wouldnt count on them getting swept back to back.

Yeah, they are hot. They won 8 out of the last nine, the team has injuries, kudos to J. Torre. Very competitive division, Jays are right in there and Bosox seem to be treading water. They came back nicely last night though after being down 0-4.

Does anyone know the record for the most 10 run games in a row by one team?

Don't know...but the Braves have to be getting close. What's that, 5 in a row? And the 6th was 8 runs. Not too shabby...especially against 1st place teams with pretty good pitching staffs.

You mean 10 runs or 10 wins in a row? In terms of wins LA, ATL, NYY are pretty HOT now.

He means 10+ runs in a game...the Braves have done it 5 times in a row.

And BTW...here are the stats from SportsCenter.

65 runs int he last 5 games...most in a 5 game stretch since 1950 (Red Sox).

First team since the 1930 Yankees to score 10 or more runs in 5 straight games.

23 HR in the last 6 games.

Just when the Braves look finished. There's still a lot of baseball to be played and the NL is pretty mediocre overall.

Jayson Stark on Mike & Mike this morning said they're averaging 18 hits per game since the break. Yikes. If they were a videogame you'd have to tweak some sliders.

Yeah but what happens when they comeback to earth?

They still need to address pitching, specially their bullpen.

But hey, who doesn't?

Tribe's fire sale has begun... Wickman to the Braves for a player to be named later.

Shea Hillenbrand was released from the Jays as he almost got to a fist fight with coach. J. Gibbons on Wednesday. He's got a quirky personality, intense at times, and had a similar problem when he was in BOS. Gibbons is a straight in your face type coach and as the division tightens up, pressure is mounting for him too.
