Anybody still play the old NFL 2ks?
Just wondering if any of you guys still play this game on a day, weekly, or monthly basis. I sold my game last summer and really regret it. When I play a videogame its basically WE or nothing. To me the NFL 2k games are the closest to a WE offering for a major American sports videogames.
I am curious if it still has that addiction factor two years later. I really don't think I can deal with madden 2007 so I might pick up NFL 2k on the cheap.

This past weekend I fired 2K5 back up since it's football time again. Man, what an awesome game. The gameplay, graphics, options, and presentation are all just top notch. I forgot how cool the halftime show is, and of course Dan and Peter up in the booth. And it looks great on my HD TV. I just got the latest rosters from OS, and started a new franchise (as both my Seahawks and the Eagles), and had a blast.
I've been keeping an eye on the new Madden coming out soon for the 360, as there are some features in it that look pretty cool to me. But man, I don't think I can drop 60 bones for it when 2K5 is still holding up so well. I've even rearranged my entertainment center in the living room to bring my old Xbox front and center right alongside my 360.

I tried the whole "zero slider" thing and came away really impressed. Sometimes it seems like VC/Kush makes a balanced game, then only after the fact tries to implement difficulty levels with sliders that throw all the game mechanics out of wack.
Bill Harris's sliders are excellent too, of course. Though I could never get over the feeling like the CPU had a speed cheat. Things seem a bit more balanced with the zero settings.

The zero sliders definitely did the trick for me, as far as fixing the DB issues that made me loathe it to begin with. It also gave me very interesting games with the CPU: low scoring dogfights, 42-35 aerial wars, ground games that I couldn't stop, sometimes they couldn't run to save their lives. It really seemed to depend on the matchups the more I played. If they had weak tackles, I'd pound it right up the gut all day long. If their tackles were strong, they'd stuff it repeatedly. I really did end up scouting the other team's ratings and attacking weaknesses, and I typically don't do that in a football game. It's a play-to-play thing...see a hole in a pre-snap read and attack it. With those zero sliders, I was designing my playcalls around creating that hole against a guy that I knew I wanted to attack in critical situations.

I'm currently using the OSCDv17 rosters...the ones without any global edits. The problem I have with most of the global edits is that they tend to eliminate the variety in ratings, and as a result the players play too much alike. For example the agression edits that are popular set everyone at a certain position to the same AGR rating. Personally, I don;t want every LB in the game to have the same AGR rating. Same goes for OL/DL edits where they make everyone between 60-75 speed.
Anyways, I'm using v17, but I'm editing them for my own personal use. I'm adding photos (done by substituting existing players. No, you cannot import a photo from a JPG into the game) and editing ratings based on the Sporting News Scouting Guide.
Oh, one more thing you should all try out are the classic rosters. I posted them over there in ther rosters section. I used CAPAs classic teams, and with the aid of Finn's editor I was able to create an entire roster of classic teams. This means you can play with the 78 Steelers, 96 Packers, 72 Dolphins, etc... in a franchise.

I'm totally lost. I printed off some sliders and last night went to try them in my game. The ones I printed go by number, but in the game my sliders are just lines with no reference numbers at all. I went under the assumtion that the full line is 100, but after a few games things don't seem quite right. Plus, some of the sliders will say 7, and the next might say 6, but there are not enough "clicks" on the line to equate to those numbers.
I'll hit OS again and look for a download of the settings. Maybe I should check on my action replay program also?

Don't know if you guys have seen this, but it seems to be a pretty awesome set of enhancements for the 2K5 game:
http://epak.phpbbnow.com/viewtopic.php?t=3
Rosters will be updated on a set schedule and include stat adjustments, sliders are included in the various options files, he tells you how to load this years schedule, and he even links to the music you can download for the "Drama Mode". Reviews of it so far look good, so I may try this baby out.

How do NFL 2K5'ers deal with the QB Spy adjustment being broken? How do you stop the QB's from running all over the field?
It just seems that this is a cardinal sin in the OTHER game, yet doesn't get mentioned much when speaking of 2K5.
Before you all bust my chops, I enjoy the game. However, you can scramble with the QB for a decent gain all game long.

And so begins the descent of this thread into a Madden vs 2k pissing contest.PRBoom wrote:How do NFL 2K5'ers deal with the QB Spy adjustment being broken? How do you stop the QB's from running all over the field?

Why did you even need to go there with this thread? Yes, the QB Spy in 2k5 did not work. But that was 2 years ago. Plus, The QBs in 2k5 were not super-fast...you could still keep them from running all over the field.
Most of people who still play 2k5 do so offline. In this case the CPU does not scramble all the time. You could also edit the ratings using Finn's editor to adjust the QB speed, as some of the new rosters have implemented.

Doesn't it suck when people come into a thread about one game, put it down and talk about another? It's almost like they have an agenda. Good thing you never do thatmatthewk wrote: And so begins the descent of this thread into a Madden vs 2k pissing contest.
