Are you kidding me? During the past postseason you had an NFL player openly accuse the officials of favoring the Colts and Peyton Manning and in the Super Bowl you had one of the league's most respected coaches state that the officiating was one-sided. That doesn't even count the thousands of numbnuts calling talk radio or posting on message boards claiming the Super Bowl was fixed.
I think the NBA officiating is bad, but I am so sick of these conspiracy theories about "extending series." I've already posted here somewhere that NBA postseason best-of-seven series do not "extend" any longer to 6 or 7 games than MLB or NHL. So if the NBA officials are dictating extended series then they aren't doing anything the rest of the sports world isn't doing.
That said, I *hate* the way playoff games are officiated. I don't think it's fixed, but I think that there are way too many fouls called and that ultimately helps the superstar players who take the most shots.
dbdynsty25 wrote:Holy crap...stop already. Every sport has sh*tty officiating. Did you see me complain when Nash got butt raped by Luke Walton...not once but twice allowing Kobe to hit two shots to win the game....no. I accept the fact that the Suns should have been in better shape at the end of the game and that Nash made the mistake in relying on the official to make the call. You just can't rely on officials these days.
Seahawk fans are complaining about the Super Bowl. Angel fans are complaining about the ALCS...it happens in EVERY sport. Crappy officials are part of the game. The only way to win a game is to dominate it.
The Mavs wouldn't have had to deal with all of this had they hit their free throws at the end of regulation and in OT. THAT is why they lost. The officials didn't help them at all, but they lost because they could hit the easiest shot possible during a game.
Don't waste your breath. I've made every argument possible in this regard and it never works to the diehards. People will always see what they want to see even though the conspiracy theories are of course absurb and spotty officiating will always exist. That Braves game a number of years ago with Hernandez being a good example you brought up in that umpire thread. Officiating is all judgment calls and occasionally you see a really badly officated game. Sucks when its against your team but it happens in every sport and almost on the same basis which is always the funny part to me to people who love to ignore that. Dallas is unfortunately playing themselves right out of this series unless they get it together. They are the more talented team but they are not playing like it recently and this first half was no different so far.

How about giving the Mavs 24 more FT attempts for one game and seeing what happens?
Miami doesn't have the foot speed to keep up with the Mavs so they're just riding and bumping them and they get away with it, whereas you can't breathe on Wade, who also gets to jump into his man and draw foul calls.
FT attempts so far are 22 to 5.
Edit:
And Wade alone has 9 FT attempts, even though he's mostly been shooting jumpers.
Congrats to the heat. I guess that SHAQ CAN NEVER WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP WITHOUT KOBE card can't be played by Laker fans anymore .
I really thought Dallas would win these 2 games at home but I didnt know that they would play like SH1T tonight. Jason Terry coudln't hit anything in the 2nd half. Daneils was the only guy keeping the Mavs close, great job by him.
Mav's can't blame any refs for tonights performance. You can argue the refs gave them every chance after 20 seconds in the game too.
edit : oh yeah, great game by Haslem, he was the mvp tonight.
Miami played great defense, especially those shot blocks. They know how to double-team the opposing teams main scoring threat and take him out of the game. Clutch shooting by Haslem and Walker of all people.
But it doesn't change the fact that they handed Game 5 to the Heat and still favored the Heat in officiating the game tonight until those last few seconds with those generous traveling calls.
I was just thinking how fast this series changed in game 3. If Dallas plays any sort of defense with 6 minutes left, they probably go on to sweep the Heat. They really had this thing wrapped up but it slipped out of their hands.
I am not a fan of either the Miami Heat or Dallas Mavericks but there were a lot of fouls that should have been called against Miami but were not. It is very sad that the officiating may be worse than bad, it may very well be fixed. I did not believe the officiating was fixed before this series, but those people who accuse the NBA of favoring one team over the other may be right unfortunately. The credibility of the NBA is in doubt after this series.

It's always been bad. The playoffs this year it was still bad but the play was so good it overshadowed it, until the finals.
I just thought something went haywire on offense for them. All the quickness and enery they had against the Spurs seemed to go away. Devin Harris looked like the second coming of Kevin Johnson in the Spurs series...Not sure where that dissappeared to. If I had to pick a weak spot for the Mavs, it's not having a true point guard who can get assists and easier shots for his teammates. They don't need another Nash but they do need a real point guard who looks to setup the offense first rather than look for his shot.

Then it's been in doubt for the last 20 years as Michael Jordan rolled through his titles and others rolled to countless other titles in the past. Your entitled to that opinion of course as anybody is. Just the johnny come lately part of it is quite silly imo.

MJ? how about before that. Try the Bird Celtics. To this day, no team has ever got so many BS calls like those Celtics teams use to get. The Magic Lakers follow by a close 2nd.
Remember that first Lakers / Pistons finals? That phantom foul in game 7 for Kareem where NOBODY even touched him. Refs gave the lakers that game and that title. Pistons should have won that title in 88.
Inuyasha wrote:We should stop the wade = mj comparisions now.
MJ would have never missed 2 ft's at the end of a finals game where you needed only 1 to win the title.
The media will continue those comparisons. A ring before the age of 25, probably the Finals MVP too.
Next year, there will be a lot of Heat games nationally televised. You already were going to get the two Lakers-Heat games. Now, maybe we see all 4 Cavs-Heat games as well as Spurs or Suns playing the Heat and Cavs.
Mavs may not even keep the team together so this was probably their time in the spotlight.
I was screaming about the officials after the Super Bowl this year, so I know how that feels. I think the playoffs and the finals have been very entertaining this year, officiating controversies aside. The Heat certainly got the benefit of a lot of calls, mostly because Wade is so explosive off the dribble and refs are inconsistent. The Mavs had their opportunities to win this series, so IMO the officials didn't take it from them.
Of course, the conspiracy theorists could say that David Stern would never allow Mark Cuban to win a championship
No complaints about the officiating in Game 6. The Mavs lost this one. The Heat wanted it more. The Mavs had the heat in the penalty with damn near a whole quarter to go and Dirk Nowitski and Jason Terry come down and launch two quick 3's that brick. No one would attack the basket and they fell in love with the jumper. The Heat proved to be the better team....in this series. I still think the better team lost. I tip my hat to the Miami Heat. Congrats to Shaq, Zo, and Riley.

We need a real #2 guard. Dirk obviously needs someone to take the pressure off of him. We need someone that will attack the basket.
Beautiful...now you whiny Mavs fans will shut the f&ck up till next season at least. Then you'll just end up losing in the Western Playoffs to the Suns or Spurs. It won't be so heartbreaking at least.

i'd love to see the Heat get back next year since their opponent will be the Suns (since every Suns fan thinks Amare is the misssing piece)and see if you'll have anything to complain about.

I'm still fairly surprised that the Mavs didn't beat the Heat. I thought the two teams that would beat the Heat fairly easily would be the Mavs and Suns. I consider this a fairly big upset. The same thing will hold true if the Heat make it back next year and beat pretty much any of the top 3 or 4 teams from the West.
Miami does not have much time to win more NBA Championships because Shaq is 35 and Alonzo and Payton are old too. Wade is young but this is the only great young player the Heat have and he is not on the level of Kobe Bryant, Lebron, or Jordan. The Miami Heat will be rebuilding in the not too distant future.
