Dougie Weight revealed that he had suffered a third degree shoulder separation in Game 5 and might be ready for the start of training camp. B. Hedican revealed that he had torn the labrum in his hip in the first game of the series and Eric Staal led all playoff scorers with 28 points.
What a year he had.

The Edmonton Sun reported this morning that Weight took a cortisone shot in his shoulder between the second and third periods last night just so he could put on his jersey after the game and lift the Cup with his damaged shoulder.
That's how much winning the Cup means to these cats.
Take care,

Hell of a series and congrats to the Hurricanes fans here. (I haven't been posting much, but I've been lurking during the Finals.) I would've liked to see the Oil pull it out, but I'm certainly happy for the Carolina payers, ex-Wing castoff Aaron Ward, in particular. I still miss being able to call that team, "The Whale," though.
And yeah, NBC's post-game coverage bordered on shameful. First, I hate it when the second the clock hits zero they cut to a bench closeup of the coaching staff hugging each other. Huh? The best part of watching a team win a championship is seeing the initial reaction of the players and we lost the first 10 seconds or so of it. Then to cut away while the Cup is still being passed around was insulting.
Frankly, I think there's just too damned many people on the ice. The players can hardly skate around with the Cup anymore without tripping over a gaggle of camera people and hangers-on.

I'm still in shock over the game! I honestly could not sleep last night. I'm especially happy for the veterans like Glen Wesley.
I have to give a lot of credit to Edmonton. I thought Markkanen did a great job keeping the Oilers in the series. He was put in a very tough situation, and I thought he played brilliantly. Pisani was incredible, too.
All in all, that was a great series! I'm just gonna take some time and celebrate now!

There were a lot more people on the ice than usual last night because the 'Canes allowed family -- wives, parents, girlfriends, children -- on the ice during the Cup celebration as part of Laviolette's emphasis on family this year, I read on NHL.com.ubrakto wrote:Frankly, I think there's just too damned many people on the ice. Congrats to the Canes for bringing the first major professional championship to North Carolina. Now we have something besides all those basketball trophies. Hope the Panthers can soon follow suit!
The best postgame show may have been on the local Time Warner 24 hour news channel which is based in Raleigh but also shown in the Charlotte area. I too was disappointed with NBC's postgame coverage.
