The series, perhaps? This isn't preseason. This isn't a team that was blown out of both games. You don't test a kid with ZERO NHL starts in the Stanley Cup Finals when you have two healthy goals, with one who performed fairly well last night.

Markkanen did not lose the game for the Oilers in Game 2, unlike Conklin in Game 1. Markkanen played pretty well, save for one soft goal. The Oilers' defense did its best imitation of the Keystone Kops, and the offense was MIA, mainly due to Carolina's defensive discipline down low.

About the only stable position last night for Edmonton was goal. So why change that and create total chaos?

The series isn't over. At least not yet.

And for the record, the Oilers' third healthy goalie right now is Jeff Deslauriers, not Dubnyk.

Take care,
PK

Well when it is over in a few days, Pronger can help console your boys. He's got a lot of experience losing in the playoffs!!!! :P

So, will the Canes be your new team if they win the Cup, much like Buffalo was until it lost?

Don't blame you for needing a Plan B. You're a Blues' fan, after all.

If I'm an Oilers' bandwagoner, which is laughable, then I'm proud to be on that wagon for 23 uninterrupted years. Even when the Oilers missed the playoffs, which has happened often in the last six years, I didn't latch on to another team.

No, I didn't become an instant Sabres' fan in 1999 against Dallas. Sure, I wanted the Sabres to win for local pride and for my friends and family that support them. But the main reason I wanted Buffalo to win was because it was playing Dallas, which routinely knocked the Oilers out of the playoffs and is my most hated NHL team behind Calgary.

I also didn't realize that it's mandatory to support the team of which you live closest. Must be a Midwestern mandate.

Take care,
PK

A bit of background behind why MacTavish didn't pull Markkanen, besides the fact that Jussi didn't play that poorly last night.

Before the Oilers acquired Roloson, the team had a three-goalie rotation of Conklin, Markkanen and Morrison. It wasn't successful, as none of them are quality NHL starters.

But in trying to find a leader among that trio, MacT rotated among them often. He also showed a quick trigger finger to pull them during games if they weren't sharp. That caused all three of them to look over their shoulders at the bench every time they played poorly, waiting for the hook. Not exactly confidence-breeding.

MacT knows this, and that's why he said before Markkanen was revealed as the starter that he would stick for the rest of the series with whomever he selected as the No. 1 goalie to replace Roli.

http://www.edmontonsun.com/Sports/Oiler ... 3-sun.html

Also, Dubnyk couldn't be the third goalie because his recent contract doesn't take effect until next season. Deslauriers is on the active playoff roster, signed and is the Oilers' No. 3 goalie. But it's irrelevant -- the job is Jussi's.

Take care,
PK

By the way...look at the little :P face in my original post to which you took offense to. It's called razzing. If you're that stressed out about the Oilers blowing a cup they weren't going to win in the first place, it's time for a vacation!

Bit of an oxymoron there? How can you blow something you're not supposed to win?

That ranks right up there on the oxymoron scale with "jumbo shrimp" and "Internet message board wisdom."

Its not a midwest mandate or anywhere else.. He just ran out of crap to say.

My teams are all over the map. Having lived in 6 cites for the first 11 years of My life I picked teams for various reasons...Though I like the Bears and Hawks, The Only Chicago team I really go nuts over is the White Sox...

A true banwagoner is he...the one latches on to team for one season or two season when things are really going well for them and maybe badly for his team...

OK, let's give Tim the chance to reply and then zip it. We've had only one Stanley Cup Playoffs thread -- 44 glorious pages -- and I don't want to disrupt that.

I'll zip my lip if you cats will do the same after Tim's reply, for the good of the thread.

Thanks,
PK

The Oils played two separate bad games last night. The first half they played for Rolie it seemed, everyone was doing too much and playing as individuals instead of team work. Just in the 1st couple of minutes alone they gave a couple of two on one. Then of course came the second part where frustration set in and they were making dumb penalties after dumb penalties. Like you said pk, G.Laraque hasn't played many minutes and all of the sudden MacT puts him in the later part of the 3rd period :?:

I guess MacT was also losing it. Hey they have 2 days to think about things. On a positive they know they can come back as they have proven with SJ with the series also 0-2 going home. But if you can't score 5 on 5 and you keep giving PP's to a very disciplined and coached team you are asking for trouble. Did I mention they have the best PP during the playoffs? Look at how mobile their D is, their point man, how fast the cycle the puck. To be honest Canes made the Oils look slow last night. That's how good they are.

Scoring also only 1 out of 13 chances on the PP doesn't help for the Oilers either. And yes they have to solve that guy called C. Ward.

Anything is possible. The Oil made Toskala and Bryzgalov -- both of whom were hot as hell -- look mortal in series against their respective teams.

That they did...but they lost their comfort zone when they lost Roli.
Im hoping that the home crowd will relight the fire.

C.Ward grew up in the Edmonton suburb of Sherwood Park and idolized the Oilers as a kid. On Saturday he'll play his first ever game at Rexall Place, with family and friends in the stands, think he'll be excited?

F*ck, this game is fraying my nerves. The Oil is skating Carolina off the rink and only leads 1-0 midway through the second.

Carolina kills penalties better than any team I've seen this season. That's the only thing that's keeping the Canes in this game right now. And I have a nervous feeling that the Canes will get a garbage goal to knot the game.

F*ck. Where's the Maalox?

Take care,
PK
