I have a couple of quick questions regarding leagues. I pretty much just used the default leagues to learn the interface:

1. None of the players in my database have historical stats. What have I done wrong?

2. Do I need to choose all the leagues in the world to have players from other nations appear in non-US leagues? I looked at the players from Japan and either they were in the US or no team was listed, which I thought was odd.

I've only had the game for about 30 minutes. It looks amazing and I've played Championship Manager so it's not too confusing to me.

Pretty ambitious folks over here:

www.neonbaseball.com

They're setting up a pretty big "universe" over there. Quite ambitious. They're looking for players.

1. Are you starting a "new" career? In 2006?

2. No. If you want to be able to manage, scout, or sign players from actual foreign leagues then yes, you need to include them. If you leave them out you will still see foreign players in upcoming drafts, though. I was talking to a buddy who activate4d all of the leagues and he said it was pure insanity -- getting trade offers from Japan, etc.

Is there a way to draft your own all time greats league using the database in OOTP 6? We ran a league like this in Basball for windows once where we went thru and picked the greatest single seasons ever and ran a league. I couldn't figure out how to do this with OOTP.

If not, does anyone know of a roster set that already has this done?

Yeah, I started a new career in 2006 as the manager of the Harrisburg Senators and none of the players in the database have any historical stats. I am using fictional players, but I still expected to see fictitious stats for each player.

Ah, no. Fictional leagues all start with no stat background. To get that you need to play an historical league

OK, that's fine. Maybe I'll just sim forward a decade or so before taking a job. I don't want it to seem like baseball started when I was named manager of the Senators :D

Awesome. And if you check the forum, there is a code for 10% off the Mac version.

Hope to download this tonight.

Go back to 1901 and fire up a sim. That way you feel like you walk into a baseball universe.

I think I'm going to buy this for the Mac tonight, hopefully its like other SI games where there's not too much a deley between PC and Mac patches.

One thing that worries me about OOTP and this has always been a part of the game. I blame it on DMB, but OOTP for many turns into a game of simming then a game.

Granted in FM you are forced to play every team game.

It seems that OOTP is slowly turning into a simulator of stats. But then again, baseball is entirely about stats. How many WS wins, HRs, ERA, ratios to the extreme sabermetrics or whatever that is called. I sure there are guys that sim and sim just to see if Babe Ruth breaks 62 homers.

Does anyone know how to activate the license for OOTP.

I bought it from the website, not straight from the game. And I can find where to put my license code.

There seems to be an issue with the Mac version and entering the license code if you preordered it on the website. They will be fixing it today.

Does anyone have a direct link to the PDF manual for the game? Don't want to snoop around on their site all morning here at work looking for it. Should have just e-mailed it from my home comptuer...

Really looking forward to digging into the game this weekend.

Awesome, thanks guys!

Now I just need to buy it tonight and figure out where I want to start the game.

A couple options interest me: the 1994 season or sometime in the midst of the Twins' Central Division run to see if I could keep it going better than the current regime.

I've been goofing around with importing various historical leagues. In all instances, the Pirates teams from the 1970s I looked at only had from zero to 2 "reserve" players on the roster. Am I doing something wrong? I'd never be able to play a season with injuries on and only 25 guys.

Leebo,

There seems to be quite a few issues with the lehman 5.3 database. Try going back to an earlier version or better yet installing the Arod23Garlon database fixes over the top.

I'm using the Mac version and importing the straight lehman 5.3 results in all pitchers showing up as position players.
