Baseball Games

Post by Jeff »

Now that the latest baseball video games have been out 3-4 months, which ones are you still playing? Always curious about the "life" sometimes of the "latest & greatest."

Is it The Show? MVP? Or 2K6?

The Show The Show The Show The Show The Show!!!

Just accept that every tenth line drive hit is going to blow right past your outfielder.

Slumber, what difficulty do you play on? Do you tweak the sliders or pretty much keep settings on default?

It's the Show for me. Best baseball game EVER. I bought MVP again just to see how it would hold up a year later and it's just awful compared to the Show.

Playing MVP on the XBox with updated rosters and schedules. First time I have done that with a sports game since Front Page Sports Football Pro.

Can't play The Show because I don't have a PS2, but I would like to try it out since so many have raved about it.

Jeff, I play on HOF with default sliders and settings. The only real modification I make is pitching with the pitcher cam. There's probably a bit too much offense on default HOF (for both user AND cpu), but I still get the occasional pitcher's duel. The difficulty feels too right for me to go mucking around with things just so I can see a few less hits per game.

Hadn't thought about that Mizzou...good point. My question was primarily geared towards the "video/pc sports games." Did not include text sims, but I should have.

I am a BIG Puresim Fan, and am considering purchasing OOTP this year too.

The show on PSP. I went back to MVP on the Xbox for a couple of nights, but what turned me off was my pitchers control. In the Show I end up walking at least 1-2 guys without trying. That puts it ahead of MVP for me.

MVP with the 1961 season mod. When I get thru that, I might try the 1994 season.
The Show is good. I'm batting .318 in AAA, hoping the Pirates call me up soon

I'm really having trouble getting my baseball fix this year...

I borrowed my buddy's ps2 and bought The Show, but it just looks really subpar on my new LCD. Because of it, I can't really see the pitch types as clear as I would like and just don't find hitting to be enjoyable because of it. Pitching is great however and the "little things" are amazing. Just not prepared to drop more money on component cables for this one game.

On the Xbox, I got rid of my copy of MVP05 a while ago- I had a tonne of fun with the series for 2 years, but not sure I could fire up another season and get enjoyment out of it. Very smooth gameplay, but pitching/batting/presentation were lacking for me.

Tried 2k6 on the 360 the other night at a friend's and while I liked some of the interfaces, the sloppiness of the fielding and baserunning were too much to handle. The whole look of the game is not up to next gen expectations as well.

In the end, I would probably also recommend the OOTP series.....Crunch some stats, make some moves and see what you can do with a franchise. Probably will be the most rewarding experience out of all the games I mentioned.

It's funny that you mention this. I bought the Show for PS2 after weeks of playing on the PSP and I had a really tough time hitting at first. I'd strike out 15 times every game. I thought maybe it was because the PSP version had slower pitches, but it really was because I couldn't see the pitches well. I was just using S-Video. For the heck of it and because I plan on trying some more PS2 games while I have the thing hooked up to my LCD, I purchased a $15 component cable for the PS2 and what a difference! It's much easier to see the pitches and the colors are much better.

I think The Show(PSP don't have the PS2 anymore) is a great game.Mvp on the PC with the 06 mod is also another great game. Mvp NCAA is a very good game too. MLB2K6(360)is a decent game it has some excellent things in it(Batting Pitching and Inside Edge)but pretty much every thing else is rough around the edges.I think a little more time to work on the game and i think it could be a very good game

I didn't realize they were only $15...Like you were saying, if you strike out 15 times a game, that's only a buck a K.
