Match report

Newcastle 2 Wolfsburg 1

SOG 17, 7

Target 9, 4

Fouls 7, 5

Corner 4, 0

Offside 1, 0

Poss 51, 49

Scoring: D'Alessandro (Wolf. 10'), Ameobi (New. 47'), Shearer (New. 85')

Newcastle turned home field to their advantage and defeated a tenacious Wolfsburg side 2-1. Wolfsburg game out of the gates strong with two fine free kick attempts for their wunderkind D'Alessandro, who converted one effort. Newcastle answered with sustained pressure through half but were unable to turn chances into goals. The second half saw little in the way of chances for the visitors, who mustered only two shots on goal, and Newcastle carried the fight to the German side. Ameobi opened things up for Newcastle by slotting a fine shot just past a diving defender and beating the keeper by a hair. Shearer delivered the winner by pouncing on a dazzling through ball from Parker that split the Wolfsburg defense. Experience prevailed as Shearer whistled a shot past the Wolfsburg keeper for his first goal of the season.

Good game, At. I was very fortunate to get that pass through on the winner, and even luckier that Given's absence didn't come back to haunt me.

OK gang:

The second half schedule for Season Two is now up. The year for this half of Season Two is 5002, so players should show up on the game report screen.

The deadline for second half games is Sunday, June 4. Please try to get your games in by then. It is unlikely we will have time to give extensions for this second half.

Forfeits have been given for games involving Manchester United and AC Milan for all first half games. Real Madrid has avoided this fate so far because Danimal has at least posted in this thread, trying to get games in. Try to get caught up, Danimal. Also, I'd like to know if you have settled on a home stadium for this season.

Having thought more about it, I want to continue straight on with Season Three, which would begin one week after the Season Two deadline of June 4. This will give us a little less than one week to go through the team assignment process for those who want to change teams and newcomers as well. I think I should be able to get everything settled before I leave on the 10th, but this will mean that there will be no time for extensions at the end of this second half of Season Two, so get your games in by the 4th. At worst, Jared and I will end up with forfeits for the first half games in Season Three. We may have a bit of a delay before the second half games of Season Three are scheduled into the module, unless we can work it out so someone else can get the schedule put together and deal with other administrative stuff.

At this stage, I feel that Squid should start in the bottom division with the other newcomers. If he wants to, he can take over Sudz's AC Milan for the remainder of this season, as it is pretty clear by now that Sudz can't get the game to work and/or has lost interest in the league. Man U. will remain in Division Two, but will end up with 3-0 forfeit losses for the season (to be dealt with as of the deadline, just in case a miracle happens for db's 360).

We will deal with participants leaving the league and newcomers entering during the (slilghtly less than) one-week off season period between Seasons Two and Three, and adjust the Divisions as required. I would like to keep Division One at six teams, while the other Divisions may grow or shrink by one team depending on the number of participants for Season Three.

Good luck, and play fair!!

Hang on, he broke the ice against my Turks, that Shearer! How many first goals can a man have?

Squid, I have to get Jason to change the control of that team over to you. If you haven't yet, you need to head over to the league site (link is in the first post of this thread) and start and account. If you name it 'fsquid' (instead of something like. . . Seymour Butts  ) then it should be straight forward, as I can tell Jason what name to get set for.

I'll have to dig up my AIM account or get a new one. I haven't used it in years.

I'll try to hop online tonight after 10PM, but how about we set it up for tomorrow at 10PM EDT just in case as that is more likely.

It's been a busy week for me; it's finals week, and realistically, the first time I'll be able to really play this week is tomorrow night after 10pmCST, or Thursday after 3pmCST.
Anybody who needs to play me (LAzio) from the first half please PM me here.
Thanks.

My AIM is snyder6506

BTW, I am playing NYIsles tonight at 10PM EDT.

I would love to play another match either before or after this one. I am also in town for the long weekend and have a pretty open schedule. I'm used to checking my PMs, so if anyone wants to play just propose a time via PM here at DSP.

Match report

Bayern Munich 1 PSV 0

SOG 11, 6

Target 1, 0

Fouls 10, 6

Corner 1, 1

Offside 2, 4

Poss 57, 43

Scoring: Salihamidzic (B.M. 75')
No cards

Bayern Munich scored in the 75th minute on a header by Salihamidzic that rattled off the top post and just past the line. The overall play in the rematch was much better than the first meeting, although only one shot ended up on target. There were a few controversial offside calls with several eliminating PSV scoring opportunities and another erasing an apparent first half goal by the home side.

Good game, Nyisles. I just got lucky enough to be standing close enough to the net so that my header bounced in or that would have just been another shot way over the net. Otherwise we're about as even as you can get.

Lazio 1:0 Middlesbrough

DiCanio '47

Lazio Middlesbrough
Shots 12 16
Sog 7 3
FKs 5 11
CKs 1 5
Poss 39 61

A frustrating day for Middlesbrough as the visitors were unable to turn 61 percent possession and 16 shots into a goal. The match had some pretty wide open play early on, with both teams missing good chances. The only goal came just after second half kickoff, as Lazio played a through ball right up the middle into the heart of the defense, as DiCanio was quickest to the spot for the finish from close range. Middlesbrough had a number of opportunities to tie, but only had a post to show for it and lots of shots into ZZ.

Middlesbrough 2:0 Fenerbahce

Yakubu
Hasselbaink

Mid. Fenerb.
Shots 19 11
SOG 12 4
FKs 15 2
CKs 5 1
Poss. 50 50

Two first half goals proved to be enough as Middlesbrough held on to down strugggling Fenerbahce. We played the other day, so I can't remember all the details though.

Roll that die for me, Zeppo....DiCanio got injured!

Had a couple of wild home and home games with Rob. He beat me 7-1 in the first outing (ouch! my keeper was totally asleep!), and I beat him in a more modest 3-2 fashion in the return leg. He'll put the stats up soon.
Good thing this isn't aggregate!

Good games, Rob!
And good game, Naples!

Home and Away series action between Newcastle and Lazio. In the opener:

Lazio 1 Newcastle 7

SOG 13, 20
Target 6, 14
Pen 0, 1
Corner 2, 2
Fouls 9, 1
Offsides 1, 3
Possession 49, 51

Scoring:

Lazio: Muzzi 9'

Newcastle: Shearer 27' 70'; Owen 28'(PEN) 51'; Chopra 64' 81'; Dyer 73'

Lazio opened the scoring with a laser-strike from Muzzi which beat Given to the short side top corner. Newcastle responded with authority, however. Alan Shearer powered home a rocket of a strike from the top of the area. Jermaine Jenas was brought down in the area and Owen converted from the spot. The remainder of the first half was evenly fought, but the second half was all Newcastle. Peruzzi, the Lazio keeper, seemed to lose interest at some point, and Dyer's goal and Chopra's second were both weak shots that should have been dealt with. It was just one of those games for Lazio.

Lazio exacted their revenge on the return leg, though.

Newcastle 2 Lazio 3

SOG 12, 12
Target 5, 5
Pen 0, 0
Corner 2, 0
Fouls 4, 9
Offsides 1, 1
Possession 52, 48

Scoring:

Newcastle: Owen 28'; Shearer 89'

Lazio: DiCanio 27'; Cesar 45' 62'

Lazio felt no hangover from their earlier thrashing and came out of the gates fast again. DiCanio drilled a winning ball past Given to get things going. Newcastle answered immediately, with Owen adding to his league goals lead by drilling a solidly headed ball past Peruzzi off of a Parker corner kick. Cesar, who nearly missed the match due to injury, put the Italians back ahead in first half injury time with a brilliant 25 yard strike that eluded Given's outstretched hands. Cesar's quality was apparent again in the 63rd minute when he repeated his sharpshooting feat from nearly the same spot. Newcastle rallied to carry the play for the remainder of the game. Michael Owen's blistering volley in the 75th minute found only woodwork, however. Shearer's pinpoint left-footed strike in the 89th minute gave Newcastle some hope, but there was scant injury time available for Newcastle to capitalize on their late momentum.

Both games were just excellent. I dont' think I've ever seen a keeper fall asleep like Peruzzi in the first game. Every shot I put on him in the second half was a goal or nearly so. That was just rotten luck. The second game was much more competitive and I'm going to curse that Owen miss for the remainder of my weekend.

Happy Memorial Day guys. I'll catch y'all after the weekend.

Jared, Zeppo, Naples, Atxj....lemme know when you can play. I have a very flexible schedule from today on, as the kiddoes and us teachers are home for the summer. So even during the day is fine with me, if any of you are so disposed.

Was it the yellow cross type of injury or the more serious red cross?

The roll came up a 6, so if it's the yellow cross, he's out for one game, if it's the red cross he's out for a full 3 games! Ouch!

Squid: You are ready to go. The second half schedule is up, so you are good to go. Make sure you note who the home side is supposed to be for each game, and make sure the game settings are correct (listed in the first post of this thread).

Juventus 2
Barca 0

Pessotto 28'
Del Piero 89'

A strong game throughout. Opportunites with both teams went missing. Juve caught a break when a shot hit the centerback and came right to the foot of Pessotto who put it in the upper middle of the net.

The second half saw Barca really get going with a lot of crisp passing and getting shots that were a little off target. In the closing moments, a great play by Del Piero got the keeper off balance and he banged home the clincher.

No cards were given.

Good game Jack!
