OT: Moving a Flat Screen TV

Post by JackB1 »

we just got 2 estimates from 2 different movers and both said they wouldn't except any responsibility for moving our 42' Sony LCD TV. They said they are extremely fragile and need to be kept upright at all times. Problem is we dont have the original box/packaging anymore. Anyone have any ideas on how to pack it so that it is safe on their truck? I am going to go look at the local stores for a box, but that moght be hard to find. aren't these TV's shipped? If so, there must be a safe way to move it.

I had my DLP shipped to me. It was tied to the inside of the truck, upright and boxed (of course).

I saved the box and styrofoam inserts for packing in my basement knowing that I'd need it when I moved.

My only suggestion is go to a Best Buy or Circuit City and see if they'd be willing to give you a box and the packing from that model of TV. They might have extras laying around.

These TV's definately need to be upright and definately need to be cushioned in the box. Any rattling and bumping around from those moving trucks can do some damage.

They get bounced around pretty good even when inside the box.

Get some bubble-wrap and wrap/tape the thing up good, then make sure it's strapped upright in the truck on top of some padding and you should be OK. Might not be a bad time to invest in the WARRANTY from your local retailer, just to be safe...

Stick it in your car. I never trust movers for my high end stuff. My Dell 24" LCD, my computer, my stereo gear...I move all that stuff myself.

I moved my 50" DLP 1000 miles and the movers had it wrapped in plastic wrap and furniture pads. Made it just fine.

The movers are right LCD TV's are fragile. I would place a big piece of cardboard to cover the screen and tape it to the sides on the TV.
