OT: American Idol - What The F@#$?

Post by JackB1 »

I know this is a corny show and all, but me and the wife watch it.
Last night they eliminated Chris, who was IMO the best singer left on the show. The also had Chris and Catherine McPhee as the bottom two, when clearly they are the top two. What the heck is going on with this show? The voting system must be seriously flawed, because these results don't make any sense. The two that they said were the top two are horrible.
I don't know how they even made the cut for the show in the first place.

Jack... it's a popularity contest, not really a show where the most talented wins.

The problem with Chris was that people got sick of him. I think he was pretty convinced that he himself was the next American Idol. i think his style just started to wear on people, I know it did on me. Katherine was horrbile on Tuesday night...downight bad. She forgot lyrics to her song. She should be voted off next week. Elliot is by far the best singer in that competition, he can sing anything, any style or genre of song whereas Chris couldn't. Taylor is the popular vote, people like him without a doubt. Elliot is one of the best singers they've ever had on the show and i think people are starting to realize that. Will he be able to beat out Taylor, I don't know. People just like Taylor and there was a rumor floating around that he's accumulated more votes than anybody in the history of the show. I'm glad Chris is gone, i was getting sick of his smug ass attitude. He looked a little shocked last night when Seacrest told him he was going home didn't he!

I for one was shocked last night at the voting. When Seacrest announced Chris and Katherine were in the bottom two, I said to my wife "Without a doubt, Katherine is gone." Even looking at Katherine's face, she seemed to look defeated. I just couldn't believe it. Out of everyone, Chris stayed true to his music.

I think it's all perception in terms of who we feel the audience and fans are tiring of in this competition. I thought there was equal enthusiasm for Chris, Taylor, and Elliot. Katherine, on the other hand started to sour personally for me a few weeks ago even though I liked her the best from the beginning of the show. I was just getting tired of the "McPhever" crap, and she seemed like she thought she was already this huge star. She's got a nice voice, and I think the fan base voting for her love her look. I'm sure she's won a few votes just by beauty alone.

At this point, it's a wash for me. Elliott is a fantastic singer, but his music doesn't appeal to me. Either does his look. He needs to make a dentist and oral surgeon appointment as soon as possible. Out of the three contestants left, Taylor seems the most real. You can tell he really loves to sing and entertain. He brings such energy to the audience. I think he could put out a decent album because he's got such a distinct voice.

Elliots got the best all-around voice but lacks showmanship.

Catherine is hot as hell, mostly because she reminds me of my childhood crush, Valerie Bertanelli.

Chris is a hell of a singer but not exactly an American Idol. He'll do well after this exposure.

Taylor is my favorite. He's got a great voice and is definitely the most entertaining of the bunch. I'd love to hear a soul album of his.

The problem with Taylor and Elliot is that I would never buy any original CD's they made. Elliot's voice is very non distinct and he uses way too much vibrato. He sounds a lot like Stevie Wonder. Taylor is OK doing cover songs of people who his voice is good for, but would I buy his own recordings? Not! Chris and Katherine are the only ones who have original potential past this show. Taylor is just a goofy, kind of likable guy, who will fade away into oblivion and Elliot isn't really likeable or memorable and needs some work on those choppers quickly. It's like he has too many teeth for his mouth.

Well in this corrupted world, American Idol does something that most tv show's don't really do, it puts family's in the same room together for at least an hour. You can call it what you will, but at least it's bringing families together.

Further proof that the public should never have a hand in any decision like this. Did you see the look on Simon's face? It was like he had seen a ghost. There's no telling how much money Chris getting voted off cost Simon.

I told my wife back when they had 12 finalists that if Chris didn't win, it was going to be the biggest injustice of all time. I guess I'm pretty much done with the show.

I am done with the show after the auditions. After thats its just boring and pointless.... when you have guys that get record deals that don't win the show, then whats the point of winning?

Plus its dragged out and milked to death.

I'm sure it's good to be Chris Daughtry this morning. You can bet he got a lot of calls from record companies and agents today. He sings a certain style of song pretty good but that doesn't make him anymore an american idol than the other three.

Still, it would have been great for the show if Chris had won seeing as they haven't had a rocker win it all.

Kinda disappointing.

I believe he has diabetes and a common side effect of diabetes is keeping teeth/gums healthy. I'm sure that's part of the problem.

think about it ...

taylor is crazy crazy, who would n't want to see that guy freak out every week. soul patrol WHOOOOOOOO!

katherine (yummm) is hotter then your car with a broken A/C in mid july, and she has sucked the last 2 weeks so she gets the sympathy vote

chris was just kicking most ass so viewers didn't thing he would have an issue going to the finals, hence the low votes

elliot has turned into a smooth operator which i think has picked up the support of many in the underdog votes.

everyone knows who's the best but still we vote the way we do for whatever reason, that's what makes the show funny.

I think this year the talent pool was very weak. Probably that year Fantasia won was weaker than this year. Bo last year was 10x better than any of the top 5 contestants they had this year. I got tired of Chris as well since he was very showoff-ish in the last few weeks. He was the best out of the bunch but that's not saying much.

It was werid how they had Taylor do a number on last night's show all by himself. Maybe they are trying to push Taylor to victory.

I still think when it gets down to it, the producers voice has total authority even if the votes say otherwise. It's still a tv show and they need to entertain and keep the masses tuned in.

Exactly, the show is rigged. The discontent on the show, the PR everything. It's like people watching rasslin and thinking it's real.

If they really wanted to make this about good music, they would have people play instruments.

Talking about fake, how about that Hogan reality show. He really plays up the over protective dad doesn't he. I still like the show.
