Keith Jackson to retire

I always enjoyed listening to him call games. Unlike alot of broadasters of today, he never tried to be bigger than the game. And for people like me in their 30's, he has been the voice of college football.

I thought he already retired, returning to the booth only a few months later.
Keith is yelling "fire" in a crowded theater again. He'll be back.
Take care,
PK

Yeah, I believe he retired only to return to call Pac-10 games. He'll always have a special place in my heart after doing the commentary for the NCAA Gamebreaker games on the PS1, even though they were utter garbage.pk500 wrote:I thought he already retired, returning to the booth only a few months later.

Well, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, as Jackson has called more than Pac-10 games since his retirement and abrupt comeback.Gamecocks625 wrote:Yeah, I believe he retired only to return to call Pac-10 games.pk500 wrote:I thought he already retired, returning to the booth only a few months later.

I agree, Keith is past his prime. Many a Saturdays over the past few years, I've just ended up shaking my head. Even with that said, he is the voice I "hear" when I think college football. Now keep those Gatorade commercials coming!kevinpars wrote:I will miss him, but he is way past his prime. The only person who gets down and distance wrong more often than Jackson, is Jeff Bowden.
Scary thought: For kids today, who is the "voice of college football"??
Lee Corso?
Brent Mussberger?
As Mick Hubert would say: "OOOOOHHH MYYYYYY!!"
It's Nessler, Mr. BCS. One of the best in the biz, at least for me. It's much more fractured nowadays then it was in the age of the big three networks, but Nessler has done every BCS Championship since the beginning, hasn't he?kevinpars wrote:I will miss him, but he is way past his prime. Actually, they have rotated as Keith Jackson called the Championship games that were played in the Rose Bowl.Zeppo wrote:

Ah, indeed they have. Maybe it's my EA NCAA experience that puts Nessler up there in my mind.icvu42 wrote:Actually, they have rotated as Keith Jackson called the Championship games that were played in the Rose Bowl.Zeppo wrote:

Not me, Bill. He's not just past his peak, he's falling down the peak and hitting every rock along the way. I swear there are times that I think he forgets which teams are playing. He calls names wrong, calls downs wrong, calls the score wrong. He should have retired 10 years ago. His games are just painful to listen to. Problem is, he can't take Fouts with him.billharris44 wrote:Keith is past his prime, but he's the last great college football announcer. I'd still rather listen to him past his peak than anyone else.
Damn, I just realized I've been listening to him for thiryt-five years!

Sounds a lot like Ron Santo, man I have an idea for a new reality TV show...Bill_Abner wrote:I swear there are times that I think he forgets which teams are playing. He calls names wrong, calls downs wrong, calls the score wrong.
