Although J. Jagr is a maybe for game 2 vs Devils here's an interesting story from Ducks GM B. Burke.

The article mentions a bit also of how Umberger feels about that monstrous hit.

These straw man arguments are getting really boring. No one on the Flyers team has called it a dirty hit, and no one on the team has said it was going to be used as motivation. Naples39 wondered if Campbell left his feet which would be charging, but everyone in this thread including him has since agreed that it was a perfectly legal hit. So there's no argument about that.

Brining up the Broad Street Bullies is a bit pointless. That was 30 years ago, after all.

I was born in 1977 so the Flyers haven't won a Cup in my lifetime. :(

@pk500 - I think most teams have an "Us against the world" mentality, because the fact is it helps teams win. If you saw the play where Knuble was high-sticked twice to the face (drawing blood) that would have given the Flyers a two-man advantage, you wouldn't blame Flyers fans for being pissed at the refs.

This is a quote from the Philadelphia Inquirer writer Tim Panaccio:

"The operator of the JumboTron at the arena should be reprimanded. The Sabres showed Brian Campbell's hit on R.J. Umberger repeatedly, which incited the crowd. It was in poor taste. Umberger could have been seriously injured... ."

So either he's got his facts wrong, or Psycho has.

So do you guys think the hit was even better the the ones Scott Stevens dished out to that Detroit guy in the 95 Finals, the one that ended Lindros' Flyers career in 2000, and the hit against Paul Kariya in 2003? That guy made some huge clean hits but he also got away with a lot of borderline ones, in my opinion. At times it seemed like the NHL believed Scott Stevens' shoulder ran all the way from his neck to his wrist.

Come on: As if the scoreboard operator at Wachovia wouldn't have done the same thing if Umberger had laid out Campbell in Philly.

This is the town that booed Santa Claus, after all. Philly fans are among the most classless in professional sports, so again, calling another franchise and its fans crass is a bit rich for me.

Take care,

To be fair, no one official has really criticized the crowd. (I certainly don't think they did anything worth worrying about.) A lot of them were probably drunk after all, as happens at every sporting event.

Tim Panaccio is a straight shooting reporter and not a homer, and he genuinely believes the Jumbotron Operator was in the wrong. I would expect him to say the same if the Flyers Jumbotron guy ever does the same thing.

I was 8 in 74 when the Flyers won the first of their consecutive Cups vs the Bruins... I dont remember the score of the game but Kate Smith sang and Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito went out to tell her they werent scared.

I was a big sports fan by age 7 so alot of sporting events from 74 on are really clear in My memory...Its non NFL stuff that happened after 83-84 that gets blurry...Has nothing to do with the discovery of weed and alcohol... :P

That's funny... when I was a little kid, all the kids wore sports teams tee shirts, then puberty hit and all of a sudden all the "cool kids" started wearing KISS tee shirts and Journey tee shirts! Ha!

Not me though, I went the "sports geek" route. :D

Enough of this nonsense. Game two is just about two hours away! Maybe Forsberg will actually step it up tonight and help the Flyers make a game out of it instead of coughing up pucks like he did the other night. I hope Campbell lays out Forsberg tonight with an even bigger hit!!!

I think Foppa will have a big game tonight---at least 2 points. 4-3 Flyers.

Actually, the Wakovia Center would not have shown that over and over. Ed Snyder wouldn't let it happen. Also, the Santa that was booed was drunk so lets not get the facts out of wack. Whenever anyone wants to criticize Philly fans they goto the Santa incident. The guy deserved it. I'm not saying the Philly fans aren't harsh but lets not beat a dead horse.

Pardon me if I take the word of a very good and fair hockey reporter over a Sabres fan named CrazyPsycho.

Looks like Esche has lost his mind. Nice. I'm not trying to be an asshole here, but you guys keep being stupid about it. You weren't there. And what makes a reporter any less unbiased?

Grow up or go to another forum, thanks.

If you're going to be rude like that [referring to an edited post] you aren't wanted here. Take your 45 posts and leave. The score in tonight's game has nothing to do with the fact that many people (including some Buffalo fans) have a problem with what the Arena showed on the Jumbotron on Saturday night. Not sure why you have resorted to petty name calling.

Stick a fork in the Flyers...they're done. Buffalo is way too fast and their depth is amazing. I've been pimping the Sabres since last year. They're for real. They had 52 wins or so and you didn't hear much about those wins until the playoffs started. This is a very dangerous team. Lindy Ruff baby!!!!

Boy, Philly's D is getting abused. The Sabres are just flying around them. This is getting ugly. Hatcher's temper is starting to flare as well.

Yeah, I think you're right. The Flyers needed to win Game 1 if they wanted any chance given that their team just isn't as good as Buffalo's. Even if they had Primeau and Johnsson at full fitness.

I just have faith in a guy after reading his columns for seven years and seeing him torch the Flyers players and organization when he thought they deserved it.

Anyone interested in tickets to games 3 and 4? They've given up on me, might as well give up on them!

I apologize Feanor, I've been through about 4 different forums where people are attacking the fans(me included) for something that is being incorrectly reported, you finally pushed me over the edge. I wish I had a way to get video online so I could show everyone the chain of events and why the crowd was reacting the way they were. I'll see if I can dig something up.

No worries, sorry if I was a bit harsh. If you read my posts you'll see I don't have any problem with the Buffalo fans. Enjoy the game. :) I'm not watching these soft cocks any more tonight.
