Guilty admission:
I just played 2 online games againts RallyMonkey, including a 15-inning marathon that ended 6-5.
I can't play the game offline, and it's a bug-ridden mess that angers me whenever I boot it; BUT, those 2 online games were damn fun and very playable. MVP? No, but realistic, tense and it includes some unique touches that with another year of development could result in a seriously strong game.
I feel dirty for even admitting it.

Seems like I heard similar things about last year's game, not to mention the previous year's which was very good with all kinds of slider tweaks, but not so much out of the box.Sport73 wrote: BUT, those 2 online games were damn fun and very playable. It is not a horrible game - just an incomplete and buggy game.
One of the problems I have with most 2K games is that settings are not a "set 'em and forget 'em" proposition. Unlike most EA games, which load your settings when you start the game, 2K games require some checking and loading or you find yourself playing a dynasty game with default settings.
Look up "intuitive" in the dictionary, and you will never see a reference to a 2K sports game menu structure!
Another minor gripe - and this is true about most of the 360 games so far - is that you have to manually turn off the damn music every time you load the game. Music is great - but having it force fed to you when all you are trying to do is mess with sports game setting or rosters is a pain in the ass. Let us turn them off ONCE and not make us either shut them down manual each time we open the game or load a save that does the same thing.
And while some of the 2K options for playing baseball are cool additions, there is so much to remember that it makes it hard to play a game. It is one thing to lose because you throw a pitch to the wrong location, but it is another thing when you lose because the baserunning requires a completely unintuitive button combination that ends up costing you outs or runners holding a base when they should be scoring.

Gulp... I actually had a lot of fun playing this game. Of course, that is WHEN I was able to play this game. After reading this thread I was expecting a totally unplayable experience (gameplay wise not crashing-wise
) but this game reminded me more of 2k4, which I really liked, than it did of 2k5 which I thought was horrible.

I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

2K4 has a much better framerate, better AI, better camera angles, much better fielding, and zone hitting or cursor hitting depending on your preference.ScoopBrady wrote:but this game reminded me more of 2k4, which I really liked, than it did of 2k5 which I thought was horrible.
2K6 has better pitching, baserunning, somewhat better (but more cartoony) graphics, and Inside edge. It has a right stick swing mechanism, but I find aiming with one joystick, swinging with the other, and using another button to check swing very awkward.
There isn't a ton of difference in commentary. 2K6 has more presentation elements, but I find a lot of it very annoying and nothing like I would see on an actual telecast (especially the blur effects).
If 2K4 was back-comp and had updated rosters, I'd much rather play it than 2K6. That doesn't even take into consideration the $55 difference in price (I routinely see 2K4 in the $5 bargain bin at EB) or the fact that I could actually physically play 2K4 because it didn't freeze.

Well..I have not experienced a lockup yet. Of course, I still have not created an offline VIP yet so each time I boot up the game it ask if I want to create one...I just say no. I have been using some sliders from OS and am really enjoying playing this game. Sure the camera angles arent the best, but the pole cam is very playable and you can adjust. Ther are a couple of animation glitches that will make you say to yourself "gee, that was kind of wierd." But I only see them a few times during a game and it doesn't hinder gameplay.
The pitching is really engrossing and keeps you on your toes. I like the swing stick, but wish there was an easier way to check swing with it. Anyone that wants to play online just shoot me an invite when you see me on, would to see how it plays online.

And just as I was thinking I was one of the lucky fellas while dissecting the game, a stand STILL folks. Not once but 3 other times. Now I am wondering whether I should delete the VIP settings, so I can continue to play the game as I find some things quite interesting. Also before the freeze, I was having quite a few pass balls.
Anyone else with the pass ball problem? Does it matter how hard you press on the button of a selected pitch?

I'm really enjoying the game. It's no where near as bad as its being made out to be. no its not perfect. after about 8 games I had my first freeze. the current work around per 2k is to load to the menu screen 3 other 360 games and then load 2k6. It seems to have worked. last night I completed the Cubs/Pirates series without any issues.

I have only had 2 passed balls in my 8 games or so. Both were my fault. You have to remember to hit the button twice. Once for effort and the other for accuracy. The smaller the circle the more accurate.nyisles16 wrote:pass ball problems?? my pitchers turn into Mitch Williams when runners get on base.. balls all over the place, even after doing the double tap.. better yet is the AI runner who is almost at third, then decides to go back to second///

MVP is a superior product. Period. Having said that I will be keeping the game until the patch comes out with the freeze problem. Many of you gave up because of the freeze issue which is frustrating but how many of you have tinkered with the slides? I was adjusting the slides for the player and AI on PRO, and I was having a heck of a game until the bloody game froze on me. But for those guys that still own the game, try adjusting with the slides a la NHL 2k6.
Little things like tweaking the camera on low zoom all the way to 100%, and you can pitch the ball exactly where you want it to break, or when you're up for batting, a change up may look a bit more obvious.

It's official I gave up on 2k6. It's been sold to someone who will hopefully enjoy it.
I still have MVP 05, and I did pick up 2k5 for $1.99 at Best Buy. I think both of these games are much better than 2k6.
Even without any freezing issues, 2k6 is a mess. On my Xbox the game pauses all the time, and this is in offline play. The commentary is often 15-30 seconds behind the action. Players make a lot of head scratching mistakes.
The biggest turn off for me was the batting interface. The interfacce in 2k4 was perfect. TrueAim in 2k5 is pretty close, but I hate not being able to turn off the visible strike zone. Why in the world did they ditch working models and replace them with a poor copy of MVPs system?

I know you don't have it anymore, but you can turn off the visible strike zone.

I can't turn it off in 2k5, which I kept. In 2k6 I can, but that's the one I sold. I did read that the WSE of 2k5 lets you turn it off.TheGamer wrote:"The biggest turn off for me was the batting interface. The interfacce in 2k4 was perfect. Usually with games my opinion grows over time. I actually liked 2K5 better than MVP05 (although it was close!). I can usually find the parts I like and still have an enjoyable experience.
This is the opposite to what is happening with 2K6. It becomes more and more apparent to me that the fielding in this game is utter crap. The whole momentum thing is WAY overdone. When starting to run, you fielder will trot the first 10 feet, I suppose to get up enough of a head of steam to actually start running. If you have a ball that comes to rest against the wall, you can barely pick it up because every time you touch the controller, you guys takes 3 steps past the ball then skids to a halt. Honestly, I don't think this game was playtested, who can actually control this crap for an entire game? And for the love of Pete why doesn't 2K sports have auto-fielding? I use it in EVERY other baseball game I play, the only reason I don't with 2K is because it's not an option. Although I realize auto-fielding is a new technology, it's only been around since what, the 80's?
I really like the WBC, and I like the new pitching interface. The batting is cool but is taking me a while to get used to, and the baserunning is the best of the bunch. But the fielding is driving me insane, and is getting very close to making me ebay this sucker. I just can't believe that the new Xbox 360 baseball game can pale so much in comparison to the MLB game I'm playing on my PSP. It's a real shame, and 2K's baseball games are no longer on the "will buy" list. And my boycot of EA is also now officially over.
As usual with these exclusive liscense deals, its the gamers that get the shaft, and MLB 2K6 is the poster child for this.

2k6 does many things right, and offers a glimmer of hope for the future if they can iron out the BUGS and spend the next year just tweaking gameplay/control/graphics and NOT adding features.
That said, I'm traveling this week and playing MLB 06 on my PSP; a FAR superior game in every meaningful way (graphics - yes, the PSP graphics are BETTER than the 360 on this game; gameplay etc.)...I wish that MLB 06 had 2k's pitching system & a few other things, but it's the better game without question.
