Board Suggestions/Questions

Post by bdoughty »

I know I am new and this has probably been brought up before but has DSP considered 2 forums?

One for online gaming discussion (leagues. setting up matches, etc)

The other one for everything else (game discussion, OT, etc)

Also is there a hack for the private message system to show people they have one, other then in the login/logoff screen? I was going to PM this to Jarred and PK instead of a reply but....

It was brought up very recently, and the sizeable majority were in favor of keeping a unified board...at least for the time being. IMO, the online threads (even those in which I do not participate) are a key element of the community here. Removing them to another forum would be like removing a key spice.

The mods left it open to another vote down the road, though.

I also seem to recall that they were looking into the PM system. I agree that there should be some sort of tickler in place to let you know that you have them. I´ve sent 3 this week, and I don´t think anyone´s checked them

I agree with Rob that having one forum is key to a community feel, but I must admit that trying to organize 2 online leagues with just one forum (that´s getting more popular everyday) is a nightmare.

Jason has set up 2 forums for our DSP ESPN and Madden NFL Leagues here. http://www.eplanetcentral.com/wwforum/f ... ult.asp

So, if you´re in one or both of the leagues, please register your DSP name at the new league forums as this will be the prime center for all league info.

Thanks.

I´m still thinking about dividing things up, if there´s enough demand for it. Pro is that it doesn´t clutter the forum. Con is that it does remove an element...I do like having everything in one place. But we might be getting too big for that. Feel free to express your opinion on this...I´d be more than happy to change things if a sizable majority wanted to.

Is there anyway to have a poster classify the thread they´re creating (Online Gaming/Sports Gaming/General Gaming/Other) then allow the viewer to either look at all threads, or sort them by that classification?

[ This message was edited by: lessthanme on 08-01-2004 19:42 ]

Sorry....this forum doesn´t have those capabilities. Good idea though.

First of all, I want to say I really appreciate what Jared, PK, and the rest of the DSP staff have done to keep this forum and site up and running. And props to all the "regulars" for quickly creating a great community for info, debate, etc.

As long as this forum remains at a somewhat small level, I am in favor of continuing to keep it at one place for everything.

To be honest, one of the main reasons I no longer even look at boards like OS and IGN is because it takes too much of my time to go looking for things, particularly new items.

For the most part, here (and in the former days of SR), I could quickly look at the one forum to see new info on games of all types, new OT sports and other discussions, etc., and then be done with it.

My recommendation for all the leagues, or game specific posts would be to try to keep them all in one thread, and just add to the thread for new info, standings, etc. That is what I have been trying to do with a few that I have started. I don´t know if that would work for everyone else, but particularly for the Links Tourneys and the TW 2004 PC Tourneys it would be nice to just have one thread that could always be updated with new start times, results, etc.
