I'm with you on this one. Since I only play games in the sports genre, a good baseball title is a must. As hard as it may be to put off a 360 purchase this summer while you cats are playing the new football titles, I too may wait for the ps3.matthewk wrote:

Thinking now about picking up the show for the psp. In the meantime, I'm totally digging MVP on the pc with the release of the final 06 mod on the horizon.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but there are "Play of the Day" videos up at IGN

gezz i was curious about this title but holy crap is it getting slammed on just about every forum i can find, not that i need any other opinions besides the one's stated here. I was going to stick with mvp 05 (pc) and just go with an update but the show really makes console baseball fun. Let this be a lesson to companies thinking about exclusive stuff. I would love to see Show sales vs. 2K6 sales in about a month .

Its a shame that 2k can't seem to get the baseball games right anymore. I really enjoyed the WSB games on the Xbox, but the past couple of years the games have just gotten worse. They are obviously very ambitious in trying to bring new gameplay features to the games, but bug fixing and overall refinement of the game always falls by the wayside it seems.
<rant>
I get seriously annoyed when developers neglect bug fixing and refinement of their core gameplay in favor of just adding more and more new features, whether they are fun or not (anyone remember First Person Baseball/Football?).
Not that EA is perfect in this regard, but MVP 05 is one of the best console baseball games made because EA focused much of their effort in refining and fixing issues with the core gameplay. The new features that were implemented (hitter's eye + owner's mode?) were pretty low impact, and only made a great game slightly better. I understand the need to have new, marketable features in each game. But when these features are obviously compromising the quality of your product, then there needs to be a more even balance between feature adds and bug fixes.

I definitely agree about MVP. They didn't make HUGE strides in gameplay, but they fixed all of the little things that pissed me off. The addition of the hitters eye was such a small thing that turned out to brilliant, EA needs to be commended for that. They took a good engine, refined it, and released the best baseball game ever made in my opinion. MLB The Show closed the gap, but it still is slightly behind MVP from a gameplay standpoint.

What the hell happened?
Two year ago it was My favorite baseball game ever.
Last year I was dissapointed with it.
This year, I havent played it, it sounds like they have completely flushed the game.
Something to be siad for having exclusive(or semi) rights to a license eh???
I had buyers remorse the minute I bought a 360...this only deepens it...I am going to wind up with both...damn it..

I'm already back to MVP 05 on the Xbox. I took the last official roster update from December and made most of the roster changes and fixed the lineups. 2k6 is going on Ebay tonight.
The difference is night and day between 2k6 and MVP 05. I played a game of each back-to-back and MVP really stands out in the comparison. 2k6 has the falshier presentation, but it wears off quick, expecially when you see so many problems with the gameplay.
I love how "human" the players in MVP seem to be. Twice last night I saw guys flub balls, and I am still amazed at how they react to the ball. It comes off as totally realistic.

You can download new rosters that are as current as opening day over at OS or mvpmods. I started a season with the Brewers last night and couldn't have had more fun.

Yeah, I've seen those. I prefer to use the Official EA roster and tweak it myself. I've noticed on the couple of other roster I tried that they changed the ratings a little too much. A lot of the roster makers like to balance out the power and contact ratings (vs. L and vs. R) for some guys that really should be imbalanced.tjung0831 wrote:Matt, matthewk wrote:I'm already back to MVP 05 on the Xbox. On the last one I tired, they had Delgado with almsot the same ratings vs R and vs L, while EAs roster had them heavily weighted towards righties. After looking up his stats I think EA was right. The vast majority of his HRs were against righties.

are the downloadable rosters for the PC or XBox versions?
can I update my MVP05 XBox rosters somehow. Do I need
Action Replay?

It's not that this place is overly sensitive...well maybe it is, but Scoop works with kids with disabilities and it is a sensitive subject for him. Just let this one be...seriously man.
Just got a flashback of the asswhooping Scoop gave me(at SR) for making a joke about kids with disabilities.
I deserved it.

Well, it looks like I'll most likely be the lone guinea pig purchasing MLB 2K6 for the 360. I'm not real interested in picking up a PS2 just to play The Show even though I know it's a good, not great game.
I'm going to attempt to stay off the "impressions board" so I can really give it a fair play. I'm not expecting the game to be an exact replica of the great american pastime, but more or less an enjoyable game of VIDEOGAME baseball. I agree this game deserves it's fair share of criticism, but I just can't not play a baseball game on the 360 until next year! That's too long to wait.

Sportdan, I'll be jumping into the MLB 2K6 360 waters with you.
And I agree, there is something to be said for just taking a game in yourself, and not reading 500 posts of "he's wearing the wrong batting gloves!!!".
Although you have to be kind of weary of a game that had no real screenshots or videos until very recently, and is coming out two weeks ahead of schedule for some reason.
Oh and the fact that current gen version supposedly really sucks.

I hear ya AJ loud and clear. However, while everyone nit picked yesterday's POTD on IGN, I didn't think it was half bad. Sure, the animations aren't ultra realistic looking compared to MLB or even ASB, but really they didn't bother me all too much. I can live with a bonehead play here and there by the A.I., but just hope it's not a frequent occurence.
Games that come with tremendous praise like WE, NBA 2K6, MVP '05, etc. get their fair share of nit picks as well, and unfortunately have the ability to ruin the experience for "Joe Gamer". It's too bad. In fact, I have a difficult time relating to many gamers because they pick apart games like it's a science. It's a game and meant to be enjoyed. If this game is not enjoyable, I won't be afraid to admit it, but I won't critique it until I play it.

this game isn't really getting awful reviews like all you guys are saying.
teamxbox, who is usually pretty reliable, bave it a 8.5 I believe. Most reviews say the pitching and hitting are great, but the baserunning and fielding are sub par. I should have my gamefly copy tonite,so I'll let you know if I agree that it's crap.

Don't worry, man...I'll be there as well. Already pre-paid in full. I have MLB 2006 The Show, and I already know that MLB 2K6 can't be as good, but I just want a game I can play on my 360. A lot of the stuff those guys at OS are complaining about don't bother me anyway. I can't believe how they are losing their mind over the new Busch Stadium and I'm a lifelong Cardinal fan. I understand the new Busch made it in to the 360 version, but if it doesn't, it's not the end of the world. With the exception of a few stadiums, all of them look alike from the batter and pitcher's view anyway.
The only thing that concerns me is some of the AI flaws I've read about, but I can live with some of them if they don't happen all the time.
I've read the entire Xbox/PS2 impressions thread and I'm still pumped for the 360 version.
