Completely disagree with you. I think most people are in a pool because they are going to watch the tourney. As Homer (not the poet) would say, "It's the chocolate sauce on the vanilla ice cream."

But the way this year's tournament went, it's not surprising that the interest is somewhat quiet for the Championship. When you lose favorites or a Cinderella like Mason, and are left with good but not great teams like UCLA and Florida, it usually doesn't generate as much excitement.

I am contemplating the same decision. Will probably pull the trigger end of May. :D

Seems like just about every anchor there wants to do a lounge act during the show. the most shameless imo is Stuart "Booyah!" Scott. If the highers up at ESPN wanted their shows announced in hip-hop vernacular they should hire Snoop Dog and get it over with. question: anyone ever remember a Sportscenter when Stew didn't pimp UNC to embarrassing proportions?
True, true!

Uh, considering baseball is immensely popular with the Hispanic population, what did you expect?

Diasagree with both of you...I think most people are in a pool because Dave from marketing drops by with a Xeroxed bracket and browbeats and peer pressures the dollar bill and hasty picks out of them. Then the people who were going to watch the tournament watch it anyway. :D

Co-signed. If the final was comprised of one or two of the "power teams" entering the tournament, such as Duke or UConn, you'd have way more buzz. UCLA and Florida aren't Cinderellas, but they've flown under the radar until the Tournament unless you're a hardcore college hoop fan.

In other words, neither plays in the Big East or ACC. :)

And if George Mason won Saturday, oh, dear, this story would be at saturation proportions with its media coverage.

Take care,
PK

I also think a lot of the people who are in office pools because Dave from Marketing forced them to enter a pool don't watch the tournament, anyways. They just check the scores on ESPN.com, buried deep under a story about a hermaphrodite X Games snowboarder and how a backup second baseman for the Padres is the next Ted Williams because he went 4-for-4 in a spring training game, which are the lead and second leads on the site.

:)

Seriously, I think casual office pool players just find the scores. An office pool doesn't cause non-fans to watch very many games.

Check out:

http://tsn.ca/

Top three stories:

1. NHL
2. Masters
3. Curling

Canadian bastards!!!

Seriously, the content at ESPN.com changes on an hourly basis. I've been there a few times today and the main story was men's college hoops, every time.

I think I've figured it out:

With his media guide scandal and now this, PK has undoubtedly made several of us click over to ESPN.com lately.

Viral marketing bastard!

PK's scheme worked so well I became an Insider.

edit: Web, Perez 5 1/3, 1ER, 3H, 9K,3W and is the pitcher of record. I swear I won't give you his line every time he pitches, but his last few spring appearances plus this one is a good sign.

So MP3 player threads are falling behind HDTV in the popularity derby around these parts.

For the record:

Sorry, just can't let it die when I already made the point you made. At least you've proven you don't actually read what people say to you.

Hey, 'blade! I'm not in marketing OR a gambling pusher!

Here's one of my favorite ESPN (not .com) things--reporting their own shows, such as Bonds on Bonds, as hard news.
