RallyMonkey wrote:Okay, grabbed this game just for the sake of something new as i hardly ever play RPG's and i have to say i'm an addict. Unfortunately i also suck and have no idea what i'm doing. I was able to get out of the dungeon and into open air, but i've just spent two hours walking around the marketplace then i followed some dude name Argonin (sp?) to his house where i'm supposed to look around when he leaves.......but he won't leave!!!

Every time i try to kill someone for fun, not only do they not die, but i end up in the slam. I have no idea what i should or shouldn't be carrying, wearing, eating, drinking, etc, etc, and yet i can't put the damn controller down!!! 8O

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, but when a game can grab you even when you feel like a dumbass playing it, that says something. Good stuff.
For the Argonin quest, try returning later on when he might not be around. All the characters have routines they follow (ie an Artist might go to the store for supplies one day, paint the next, etc.)

Took a four day hiatus from this game and am ready to get in to it. The first day I was blown away and the second day I came away frusturated because of my skill limitations. I think I'll just do some exploring in attempts to raise my level.

Welcome to DSP, Phototropic. Nice suggestion by the way.

I am sure this is a stupid question, but I can't figure out how to wait. I accidentally ran across the option in my first day, but I have not run across it since. I have searched the manual and the help guide to no avail. I often wanted to "wait" in these situations when you have to wait out a NPC.

Thanks for the welcome. I've actually not been able to finish that quest because I ran out of lockpicks at the time and left to see the world. :(

Ditto. I left it and brought the cup thing (pardon the complex wordage) to the priest. I then jumped on his horse heading toward the Emperor's son, ran across some place called Wisden or something where i proceded to enter, get spanked around repeatedly, got frustrated and quit for now.

Theives guild bug.

Post by Gurantsu »

Found a bit of a bug last night, spoilers included below...:

So I go to join the theives guild, and we head off on the competition to find the diary. The female thief finds it first and takes off with it. I explore the house a bit because the message about stealing it back from her didn't pop up right away. Eventually it comes up, but when I leave the house she is gone, no green arrows pointing the way to her or anything, but the quest is still active. So I go to the wharf, wait until midnight, and here comes the guy from the guild, and a minute later here she comes. I snag the diary from her as she passes by, and as I walk up to the guild guy, she tells him how she had it but I had stolen it from her. The guild guy turns to me and says that she returned it, and she's now in the guild, but he'll give me a second chance to get in by stealing a sword. At this point I still have the diary.

So off I go to steal the sword, and after a few run-ins with some guards and a really pissed off dog I get it, and make my way back to the wharf. When I talk to the guild guy, he congratulates me on getting the diary, it's removed from my inventory, and I'm now in the theives guild. Plus, I still have the lady's sword (nothing special other than looking cool). A strange little bug. Certainly not a game-breaker, but it was interesting to say the least. Now I can finally get lockpicks! And trust me, I need LOTS of them... :(

Still having a blast with the game. I'm around 17 hours in so far, and as far as the main quest goes I've only closed the first gate. I tried to help clear that town out, but kept dying, so I ventured out to get a bit stronger before I try it again.

I cheated with the Thieves guild quest. I saw where she got the diary, relaoded and beat her to it.
Where are you getting the lockpicks?...He hasnt had any to sell since before the 1st quest. I need em for the first special mission...

Clearing that town is a good thing...you wind up with some upgrades from I wont say who or where...

Awesome game...First time I have gone two straight days without logging on to WoW In an eternity...Only problem is I had a wierd dream last night ... :P

I find it interesting that nearly everyone plays a theif / mass killer in this game. Says something about this group...;)

Speaking of Killing...I killed a Pirate last night. Is that going to spoil a future quest? The body has been there for over a day game time.

Which just goes to show how hypocritical the "corrupting our youth" argument is against GTA.

Focusing on video games is just plain silly. Especially when you consider the music they are listening to, The tv and movies they are watching and how bad the educational system has gotten.
Not to even mention the single parent home and well, not to offend(wont mention any by name), but the strange things going on with certain organised religons.

Edit: I forgot that crazy internet...

Sorry bout the threadjack...couldnt help Myself. That videogame stuff does get on the nerves.

Forget stealing and killing!! During character development, when you pick a race, you are presented with a variety of characteristics that are specific to certain races, including "strength" and "intelligence". Barely into the game and you are facing the ugly reality of racial stereotyping! Jesse Jackson would quit playing right then and there.

Now a more conservative type might play on, but when confronted with all of these 'guilds' that you can join, it would become clear that these damn 'guilds' are little more than thinly disguised UNIONS. And we all know what UNIONS have done to the American workplace!!

And all these mages and spells and magic. Clearly, this game glorifies the works of Satan!!

And every set table has venison or some other kind a meat. What's a vegan to do in Oblivion? Starve?

This game should be rated "L" for Lieberman.

I've actually been playing it pretty clean. I paid off my bounty to join a Fighter's guild and have kept a clean record since then.

My main reason for joining the thieves guild was to get lockpics. See, it's all above board. I was getting sick of slaughtering beggars for them... :o

Me too. I'm currently kicked out of the Fighters Guild for killing one of the members. Problem is it was an accident. During my first quest with the Fighters Guild I had to help them clear a mine of scamps. During the fracus I ended up accidentally hitting one of the members. When the room was clear this guy came after me and I had to defend myself. At first I thought it was just some bandit that was also in the mine but discovered that I was kicked out of the guild for killing a member. I'm collecting the bear skins to get back in but I've been tempted to join the Dark Brotherhood.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.

Screw them if they cant take a joke.

Dark brotherhood is always fun. Was in it or something like it in Morrowind.

There is a way to yield if you accidentally hit someone, I forget what it is.

Bill harris posted somethign really cool about this game on his blog, this just goes to show how detailed this game is, I've had many of these moments. Sorry to Bill if reposting this causes an issue:
I just spent more than 30 minutes of real time tailing an NPC who happened to leave town at the same time as I did. He stuck to the road and was attacked a few times by wolves, which he killed. At one point we could hear sounds of combat in the forest nearby--he stood and listened for a moment, then charged in and attacked a bandit who was fighting another NPC. The bandit turned on "my" NPC and whoever he was attacking ran off. "My" guy killed the bandit and continued on his way.

You hold block and hit your "activate" button (A on 360 or space on PC by default) to "Yield" to a NPC. If it's a friendly character or guard or something you accidentally whacked and their disposition toward you is high enough, they'll stop the attack.

How the heck do you figure out what level you are? I looked everywhere. I assume I'm still a 1, but I'd like to know if I move up eventually. I'm not very far at all in the story...I'm back in the town after closing the first Oblivion gate.

Anyone have any vampire trouble? I have not come across any yet - but I don't want to become one and have to avoid the sunlight. (I am also playing Condemned and I have had about enough of being in the dark.) I have heard that if you don't catch vampirism early that it is a b*tch to get rid of it. I guess i need to be careful when I head out of the city and back out into the forest.

It is real easy to get caught up in some of these side quests - and they can get very involved.

I have to say that if I was going to start again, I would not go as heavy on thief skills. Sneaking and thievery are no where near as sophisticated in this game as in Thief or the Clancy games and come at a sacrifice of strength. Sure, I can sneak around, but when I have to fight, I am at a huge disadvantage. I find myself darting around the arena trying to fire my bow without get my head crushed by some huge orc with a hammer. But I am at level 8 now and not interested in starting over.

Well it is on the same tab as your skills i believe. But an icon appear on the screen when your ready to level and you only level when you sleep.
