Why can't we decide which uniform they where like we can in virtually ever other game made?lexbur wrote:Has anybody else seen any classic uniforms yet? That's weird, I've only seen the Tribe's alternate uni's 2 or 3 times in 11 games so far. Plus last night when they wore the old-timer's unis. So the fact that you can't choose hasn't been a big deal to me.
But you're right, it would be better if you could choose, especially if the alternates are as garish as the Braves' alternates.

Exactly...and it's especially bothersome when I played the Nationals and they wore their alternates too! Both teams with ugly ass Red unis...you couldn't tell them apart at all. That was really disappointing.lexbur wrote:But you're right, it would be better if you could choose, especially if the alternates are as garish as the Braves' alternates.

I take it back... I had bouncy line drives go past my fielder twice in the PSP version tonight. The catch animation just never kicks in.
Well, I don't know if I can hang with this game, as this problem doesn't seem to be a fluke. I specifically made sure I wasn't charging the ball the last time I saw it, I tried to sit back and let it come to me. I've even tried auto fielding, but there doesn't seem to be any pre-loading of throws with that setting, and auto-fielding just isn't that fun in general.
I'm very, very disappointed. I've been playing on Hall of Fame, loving so much about the game, but constantly losing by one or two runs that are often directly linked to some weird fielding brain-fart that I seem to have no control over.

So get rid of it. No harm done.
For some reason, I don't see the problem. So obviously it's "something" that you are doing to trigger it. I think it's happened once to me...but that was because I charged a ball that landed a few feet in front of my fielder. The ball will likely get past a fielder in real life if they make a stupid decision like that.

I've it about half my homeruns with each swing. In my last game I hit a homerun, a solid single up the middle, and an opposite field double off the wall with the power swing. I haven't noticed much of a difference in the homeruns besides my power swing homeruns all being the "cut scene" no doubters.
I usually only use it on the first pitch (or sometimes 2-0) if I get a belt high fastball or with select power hitters if I'm ahead in the count.
This is my favorite baseball videogame ever pending the obligatory test of time. There's certainly room for some improvement and there are some facets of the game that other games do better, but I'm just enjoying the total package.

I haven't seen this bug either. Sorry to hear you're seeing it. Maybe if you can, tape the bug and put it up on a site for us to see. So far I haven't seen any glaring bugs and from most of the forums I've read, the one your talking about I haven't seen much of.
How about trying a different team and seeing if it still occurs?

I will fool around with that Power Swing then if you see a difference leebo.

On a side note, right now with this game, I have more fun playing exhibition games than my season game since It's feels very different in the different ballparks you play in. And the teams you play with all play differently as well. I enjoyed MVP and this is a good game to take it's place this year.
I actually saw it happen to the CPU tonight...that was a first!Slumberland wrote:I guess. Just wish someone could tell me what it was.dbdynsty25 wrote:So obviously it's "something" that you are doing to trigger it.
I've had the game a week and played at least 15-20 games and I've seen it happen 3-4 times...all in right field. If that rate of occurence continues it's definitely something I can live with.

Turns out MLB does have some flaws. I found my first statistical flaw.
I pitched 7 innings with John Thomson. He leaves after 7 losing 1-0. Davies pitches the 8th, and I'm still down 1-0. Davies pitches the 9th and I tie it up 1-1. I get a lead in the 10th, so Davies should be the pitcher of record. I get the save with Reitsma...but the win went to Thomson. He had been gone for two innings and somehow he gets the win anyway. Eesh. How do they mess that up?

That is weird DB. But if this flaw is good to stay I guess I rather have it in the stats (unless you're in a career mode), than in the actual gameplay.
BTW, is everyone still picking the offset camera during pitching and batting? What major differences you guys find when you jump to the All star level or Home of Fame?
I am still on PRO.

Playing as the Indians at Fenway, I took away two Red Sox homeruns yestreday in right-center(PS2), one with the CF the other with the RF. Man, it was a great feeling. I have never had any success doing that with a previous game. The right stick with fielding in this game works real well. The first one was an Ortiz shot and after, he threw his helmet in the dugout. Good stuff.
On All-Star, I am finding it a little too easy to hit and a little too hard to pitch. It was Schilling vs Sabathia and they were both gone by the 5th. Might have to knock the contact sliders down.
I have not had any problems fielding, but I know the frustration Slumber must be feeling. Sounds goofy, but maybe get a different copy? I had Jr. charge a line drive and dive forward. He didn't catch it but knocked it down and held the hitter to a single. Anyways, Slumber, hope it works out.
Didn't think I could say this, but with the better strike zone, pitching is even better than last year. Seems like the speed of the pitches and the movement of the pitches is perfect this year.

I'm still using the offset camera for batting and the pitcher camera for pitching. I like the offset camera because it gives me a much better feel for the speed and break of the pitches. The downside is that it is tougher to see pitches off the plate inside.10spro wrote:BTW, is everyone still picking the offset camera during pitching and batting? I'm ready to make the jump from veteran to All-Star for pitching but not hitting.
I'm not sure that it's triggered by the user. It may just be a hopping ball that lands just in the right (wrong) spot before the fielder.Slumberland wrote:I guess. Just wish someone could tell me what it was.dbdynsty25 wrote:So obviously it's "something" that you are doing to trigger it.

Funny, I'm just the opposite. I can hit better this year whether it be with or without the power button, regardless of guessing. In my franchise fantasy draft season I've hit 3 in a game with Pujols and Crisp, and 2 each with Reyes and V Martinez; on the other hand Rolen has 2 hits in 16 games and Nixon similiar with no extra base hits. Most of my homers I'm sitting fastball (some guessing, some not). All Pujols homers with contact, high pop ups with power using him.
Pitching wise I can't get the third strike the CPU wears me down with foul balls and won't chase.
Most of the games have been close, some early blowouts with blown leads and some good comebacks.
I've also tried tweaking the sliders just to experience the different effects. I found little difference in contact and power adjustments, but when lowering the pitch speed a few clicks the curve and changeup are tough to hit.
I did experience two freezes one with changing the umpire variation within games; the second when siming to date. Like last years game I fixed this by siming each league game for that date and it seems to happen when one of the minors teams is not playing on that day.
I understand what Slumber is writing about but I still don't view that as a glitch as I've seen it a few times on hard hits, to me it's the effects of a line drive.
Great game thus far.

The thing about baseball is, you have to play more than 1 or 2 games to see what adjustments need made.
With that being said, I think I'm just about ready to join the ranks of AS level. Right now I'm 3-3 with the Cardinals on Veteran with the pitch count slider and CPU pitch speed maxed.. that's it and I've seen errors, good amounts of hits, doubles, triples, HR's, etc..
I think I'll play another game on Veteran because I'm still K'ing a realictic amount.. but I'm sure after some more games, AS will be my next step.

After several games, here are my thoughts....
I've hit all my homeruns using the "x" button.
The majority of mine and the CPU runs have come from the long ball. Although, I've seen my fair share of singles, doubles, and the occassional triple. Personally, I get more excited when I hit a sac fly to score a run or a single up the middle to score a runner from second.
I've dragged bunted for a hit with Eckstein. Very cool.
I've had a suicide squeeze work to perfection with Spivey doing the bunting.
Pujols is a monster in this game. Glad he's on my team. Conversely, Adam Dunn is a stud in this game. 3 homeruns off of Mulder in my last game. C'mon Mark, keep the damn ball down in the zone!
I'm sorry, but the CPU is still not taking any thrown strikes! Is there a slider? They're way too aggressive. Sure, I can rack of my fair share of Ks, but they DO NOT take strikes. One area that needs big time improvement.
Initially, I was the one complaining about the line drives getting past the outfielders. Now, it's Slumberland. Glad it wasn't just a few of us this was happening to. That said, I haven't seen it happen in my last five games or so. I purposely go back on a line drive hit now.
While the fielding needs to be more refined to give the user a more immersive feeling, I feel more in control when using the outfielders than I did with last year's game.
I've learned not to be to careless with trying to throw a perfect breaking pitch with runners in scoring position. Heck, I don't throw any sliders with a runner on third! I still see the occassional wild pitch now and then.
Very very happy that the rocket arms are FINALLY gone.
The pace of the game is still too slow. It literally takes me an hour to play a game. Too damn long! I know it's baseball...I know, I know. Thank goodness I'm playing this game on the PSP. No way I'd ever find time to complete a game on the PS2.
I'm continually amazed at the brilliance of the presentation and commentary. Madden's presentation feels so archaic.
This game is going to kick major *** on the PS3. Just wish I could afford one.

Here are my thoughts:
I'm currently 5-8 in my Tribe season on veteran. I had won 3 in a row at Detroit and thought maybe it was time to bump it up to All Star, but then the Tigers whooped me 11-3 last night still on veteran, so I think I'll stay on veteran a while longer. I'm anxious to play some better teams and see how I do.
To me, the hitting difficulty is perfect on veteran, but at times the pitching seems a little easy. Guys like CC Sabathia seem too dominant, but then the mediocre guys still get roughed up by the CPU, so I dunno.
If anything I may stay on veteran and bump up the CPU power and contact sliders a notch or two, then see how dominant CC is.
I need to bump up the errors slider, I think I only have 3 or 4 in 13 games.
I'm still a little clumsy at running the bases. Just last night I had nobody out, guys on first and third and my guy on third stood there and watched the batter hit into a DP without coming home. I keep forgetting I need to manually bring him home in that situation.
I've been seeing a realistic amount of called strikes, including third strikes, on the CPU batters.
I never use the power button. I did for a while but didn't notice a difference and am still gettting a realistic amount of homers without it.
Hafner's a beast in this game!
I agree the fielding could be a bit more immersive. I miss chasing down those bobbled grounders in MVP last year.
Another little nitpick-I wish the player stats were on the screen more, like when you're doing your lineup to start the game, when the batters are at the plate, and when you go to your bullpen. I know you can hit "x" on each guy in your bullpen, but it would be nice to see them easier. Not alot of stats, just the basics, AVG, HR, RBI or W-L and ERA.
Overall though, I'm loving the game.

I've seen the CPU take many strikes, but I'm on veteran, pitching slider maxed, and I do use the K zone and hot/cold zones. Not sure how different the psp version is.. maybe it's by design to speed up the game?
I agree on the stats part.. you can't see a list of pitcher's stats very easily nor look at the other team's stats.

There goes my theory. On veteran with no tweaks Washburn 3 hit me in a 2-1 dual with Zach Duke. I had a ball go right through Rolen at third (fielding glitch?), but note he is now something like 3-56 at the plate with all thumbs down. Maybe that has something to do with it.
I also played my first extra inning game (14 innings).
The one consistent thing I am finding is the scores and games vary.
I've had the CPU take a third strike down the middle, but I also work the corner, purposely give up the walk (no intentional walks in my forte) and get the CPU to chase bad pitches.
I also figured out that if you edit a player and cancel, he still changes. I changed Nixon's number bumped the position riding over Catcher (thus making him throw right). It also changes the batting stance and for Pitchers there motion (resets to 1st animation) except for the animations listed.
I'm also off today and haven't done a bit of laundry, made the beds, or done the dishes and wifey is home in 20 minutes. I need a good excuse like I'm fixing the roof commercial.
I also learned last week my ministers mom who is 77 is a PS2 junkie and I'm thinking of going out an buying her this game. She's my new idol.

I've been keeping a mental note of taken strikes by the CPU over the past few days and I'm seeing between 5-10 every game. I've even seen the CPU take 2 strikes in one at bat.
I hit another homerun with the power button last night (Sean Casey) so mine is working fine
I've hit at least 10 using it. The risk/reward doesn't seem to favor using it over X though.
Hopefully, sliders can help the CPU offense on veteran (I'm reluctant to change right now because my hitting is perfect on that level) or maybe I just ran into a good streak. I've only given up about 2 runs a game in my first 6 and almost all have been on homeruns in the middle or late inings when my starter gets tired.
