I figure we'll give it another couple of days for everyone to see this thread and respond with whether they want to take part, set up two divisions, have some kind of agreement on the teams we'll use, set up a schedule, and get rolling.

I'll be out of town from the 10th-19th, so we should probably wait until after that to get started.

Mo, are you going to have two tiers?

An upper div and a lower one?

No offense, man, but do you actually read the thread you post in? First you totally convolute the simple request for a star rating on your skill, then you back out of the league, and now you ask me a question that is pretty obvious if you've been following this thread.
Yes, it will be a two-division league.

Are you in or out?

I took you off the list as per your request.

I'd like to play. I am a 3 star player. I will be out of the country from the 13th to 17th, but it sounds like we won't start up until after that, so that is cool.

Allright. Looks like with this thread buried on the second page, this is the league roster we have:
mobiggins *****
Sully *****
Zeppo *****
Atxj *****
Naples *****
Jared *****
RobVarak ****
JackB1 ***
bphilipb ***
tjung ***
slimer ***

These players will be divided into two divisions:
Division I (We'll call it the DSPremiershizzleip)
mobiggins
sully
zeppo
atxj
naples
jared

Division II
RobVarak
Jack
bphilipb
tjung
slimer

(Rob, I put you in the second division because you thought you were closer to 3 stars, and in the interest of having fairly equal amounts of teams in each division. I hope you don't mind.

Things we know so far:
1. Each team will play the others twice.
2. There will be promotion/relegation at the end of the season.

That's about all we know.
A couple of things remain to be sorted out:
1. How do we pick teams?
2. How many teams are promoted/relegated at the end of the season? One or Two?
3. When do we play the games/what are the deadlines?
4. Will there be a simultaneous cup parallel to the league structure in which all the teams participate?
5. Game settings? I think the tourney settings were pretty good, though I would shorten the games to 15min from 20 because of the time commitment. Random condition, weather, etc.

Anything else?
Discuss.

mo, that's a perfect number of games and 15 minutes max is perfect as well. I suggest two promtions and relegations each year.

1. I'm for random selection from a pool of evenly matched teams...but I'm flexible.
2. If they're 6-man divisions....hmmm....1? If the divisions are bigger, prob. 2.
3. Whenever you want.
4. There should definitely be a cup structure (one-off games, not home and home), so that people in the lower division get to play upper division foes.
5. I like 20, but 15 is fine. Everything should be the default.

No problem being put into the lower division. It'll be more fun fighting for promotion than dodging relegation :)

I'd rather not have random team selection, if possible. This is a pretty big time committment and I'd hate to see people stuck with squads they don't like. And no, I'm not just bitter after getting stuck with a team I despise in the tourney :) Maybe we can have a draft of some sort?

15 or 20 minute games are fine, although I'd slightly prefer 20.

Some more mathematically/statistically inclined out there is going to have to figure out a way to fairly pick teams and leave people satisfied with the team they end up with. Picking out three teams that each player wouldn't mind playing with is as far as I've gotten. Then my brain locks up.

Mathematically inclined question #2: How are we going to do the cup tourney with the odd number of teams?

I'd like to stick with 20 minute games but if enough people want to go to 15 that's not a problem.

so lets create a schedule and go!
I like 20 min games, but either will work.

As long as we all have relatively equal teams.

Easy, Jack. We won't be starting this until the 20th, as both slimer and I will be out of town until then.
First we need to figure out a way to distribute teams.

I think it's going to be until at least the 20th or so until we think about getting started because I think mo is going to be out of town.

I like the idea of having a variety of teams in the league, with the lower-star players getting better teams than the 5-star guys. I think teams should be selected randomly from the group that matches their star level with the team quality, but guys should be allowed to deny and repick one time (maybe two times). This way, if you get a team you don't think you'll like, you can opt to try for something else. I'm wary of letting everyone just pick a favorite team, but that just might be because I don't want to have to pick.

I would be fine, however, if we go with an all mid-level team type league and let everyone pick 'em. Still, I prefer the random selection aspect as long as there is at least one shot to change for a different team. Maybe that's just me though, and I should be given a team at random while everyone else can pick one. I just have such a hard time choosing!

I much prefer 20min to 15, but am fine with either. 10 would be no good.

I think we should push the deadlines hard early on, to see if we can get going with some momentum. Say, every two weeks for a half-season, or four or five games. It may seem like a lot, but I don't think three games a week is that crazy. On the other hand, we could do one game a week with a firm deadline and forfeits posted right away, but that way one season would take close to three months: too long.

I think a Cup competition should wait until after we have played a season or two, and we should do a Nat'l team tourney or something else like the one we are finishing up now, so the non-leaguers can still get in on some tourney action.

I think with such small divisions, one team relegated and promoted is the way to go.

I can't think of anything else right now.

If we're pushing for at least 2 games a week, or 5 over a two week span, then I'm going to have to drop. That's just too much of a committment for me.

I'm fine with one or two games per week. I can do either 15 or 20 but I think 15 will be nice because you can get the games in quicker. As far as selecting teams I will do whatever you guys feel is best.

I don't think 2 games a week is an unreasonable amount to ask for, especially if we play 15min. Is that too much of a time commitment for you, Sully? Would hate to see you drop, though that would leave us with even divisions...

Let me know what you wanna do.
I was shooting for 2 games/week as well.

Too bad, sully.
Well, now we have an even number of teams in the divisions, which should make cup ties easier to arrange.
Anyway, let's just do a roll-call of the teams that everybody wants.
List your top three. Maybe we can just sort this out among ourselves and those who want the same teams can come to an agreement. We'll see.
Mine are:

1. Real Madrid
2. Juventus
3. Inter

Hmm. OK, so if it's top-tier teams, it would be:

Barçalona

AC Milan

Someone else really, really good.

I think we should do something at least semi-random, but limit the pool of teams for the 5-star players. I think the 3-star players should be selecting from the top-tier teams (there really are only 8 or 10 of them, if that), and the 4 and 5-star guys should get teams not of that top calibre.

As to deadlines, what about a half-season every 3 weeks, instead of 2? That way, if we have 6-team divisions with 5 games a half-season, it would be just less than 2 games a week. With 5-team divisions, the half-season is only 4 games. I do like the idea of dealines per half-season, and getting through the league once before playing people a second time, but I think it's fine if we are flexible as we go, as long as that is what we are sort of shooting for.

If we're doing superteams, I guess any of Barca, Milan, Roma, or Juve is fine for me.

I'm with Zeppo though, and I'd rather not use superpowers. I just think the game is a lot more fun to play when you can't rely on the super abilities of the players, and you have to really work to make things happen.
