OT: NCAA Tournament

Post by peabody »

Well, I searched but didn’t see anything about college basketball or the NCAA tournament, so I figured I’d throw something up. It may be a tad early, but there have been some great games and upsets over the last two nights. Florida State over Duke, Texas A&M over Texas and UAB over Memphis. Things are getting interesting. I follow college hoops casually over the course of the season, but come tourney time, I get glued to the TV. Probably my favorite playoffs in all of sports.

Meanwhile, I watched poor Syracuse get absolutely destroyed by Depaul, 108-69. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Syracuse needed this game to shore up an NCAA berth. Now it doesn’t look like they’ll even get an opportunity to lose in the first round. With all the bubble teams getting big wins (i.e. Florida State, Texas A&M, and UAB) and Syracuse stinking it up, looks like they will have to beat Villanova then win at least a couple games in the Big East Tourney. Real shaky ground they’re standing on.

Syracuse has been hard to watch this year. McNamara gives his all every night, but I swear that when I see him play, he can’t shoot and seems like he’s forcing the game. The team as a whole this year plays a sloppy game. Oh yeah, they don't shoot free-throws well as per usual. During a game Vs. Louisville this year they took 46 and made only 19. A whopping 41%. About the only other guy I see with potential is Devendorf.

Well, I guess this turned into a post about the demise of the Orange. Still looking forward to the tournament with or without the Orange.

I hate the new Big East. Pitt didn't even get to play Villanova at all or UConn at home.

Funny thing. I can pretty much name North Carolina's starting line up from 82, Houston 83 and UNLV 90 but not a single player from any team 2006...

Is the NCAA still playing Basketball?

Thank you Acie for keeping the Jayhawks hopes alive!

A tough test for KU however heading to K-State on Saturday. KU hasn't lost at K-State in 17 years! Texas doesn't have an easy one with OU coming to town.

Poor Mizzou. We won't even get a NIT discussion in here because they're not even good enough for that tourney! LOL.

So, with Duke, Texas, and Memphis losing, who are the number one seeds?

Tyler Hansbrough. Perhaps the best center to come out of UNC in a long long time. He's just a freshman, but he's perhaps one of the best centers in the nation.

Other than that, I could care less about UNC. Especially their coach.

What's truly ridiculous is what's airing this Saturday for the UNC/Duke game. Get this. ESPN is going to broadcast this game on three of their channels! That's right. ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU.

ESPN will show the regular broadcast. What's even crazier is that ESPN2 is going to carry of the overhead view, and ESPNU is going to show a split screen of the game and the Duke Crazies! What??!?!?!?!!?

As of today I'd say Duke, Connecticut, Villanova for sure. I'm not sure about the other one. Maybe Gonzaga or Ohio St.

You're right about Hansbrough. He's a hoss. What makes him even tougher is the fact he rarely fouls which is amazing for a frosh post player. I can't remember a game I've seen him play where he's had more than 3 fouls. The kid can play no doubt.

IMO right now UConn has the best team and they'll end up in the Final Four for sure. I'm also guessing Duke will be there along with Texas (which would be big for this area as Rick Barnes was born, raised, and schooled in Catawba County where I live), and in an upset over Nova I'm guessing Memphis

I heard someone on the Dan Patrick show saying that Hansbrough is already an NBA lottery pick if he decides to come out. I couldn't believe what i was hearing....already?? Will he leave after his freshman year?

He's not ready. He needs to develop some range on his shot and his footwork could use a little work (but not much). Several players from the ACC left after their freshman seasons.......Corey Maggette (Duke), Marvin Williams (UNC), Skip Wise (Clemson) are 3 right off the top of my head. Incidently neither Maggette or Williams even started. They came off the bench
