US-Poland - Wednesday, 2PM ESPN2 (Spoilers)
Just a quick plug for the USA match tomorrow in germany. I'll be watching live, though I think some of you may want to set the TIVOs. Both teams have very strong squads, and the only players missing from the US team are the injured (Gibbs, Reyna, O'Brien). Hopefully it will be an exciting game with good support for the US from the local army base.
If you have a minute, I also recommend you go to ussoccer.com. They have some cool videos up of Kasey Keller giving a tour of his 'castle,' and the whole US team visiting the military hospital at the base.

I will catch a replay of that England match...Doesn't Uruguay have the same amount of World Cups as England?RobVarak wrote:A couple of the other friendlies are on as well. Check Soccertv.com, but I think the England-Uruguay match is on FSC and Mexico v Ghana on GolTV! Check your local listings etc.
Where is that Mexico match also?
http://www.soccertv.com/ is the bible.
Apparently the Croatia - Argentina match is on Sentana which in the US generally means find a bar
I wish my Croats could give the Gauchos a game, but I suspect there's way too much inexperience in the side these days.

60 minutes to go!!
Naples, throw up a "Spoilers" tag atop this thread, I might want to do some yapping about the goings on. Very, very excited to see a fully-formed Convey on the flank, a healthy-ish Beasley, McBride up front. And this is the stadium where we will be playing Italy in Round 2 of the Group stage.
GO USA!!

Results are secondary in friendlies, but I think the US has to happy with the 1-0 win. I thought they looked pretty awful in the first half, particularly the midfield which was none-existant, but did okay in the second half and got the win. Was pretty crazy to see the second half blizzard too.
In terms of individuals, I thought Eddie Johnson had a very encouraging performance. Didn't show any effects of the toe injury and covered a lot of ground stretching the defense. Cherundolo was our best player IMO, and Gooch looked strong, even if he did muff a few clearances. As always, Keller was strong in net, and I think Howard had a positive performance as well in the 2nd half.
On the flip side, I can't remember the last time Beasley played so poorly. I thought he was the worst player on the field in the first half. Convey was much more dangerous in his 20 minutes than Beasly was today, although admittedly it was a different game when he entered. Perhaps Beas is seeing diminished minutes at PSV recently for a reason. Zavagnin didn't do himself any favors either for his WC roster hopes.
Oh well, onward against germany in a few weeks, who are getting pounded by Italy as I speak.

Just zipped through the game in a combination of regular speed and a bit of fast-forward on the DVR. Not much in the match, really, other than the snow.
I thought Gooch, Cherundolo and Lewis were strong. The defense looked good, but I'm not sure how much of a threat the Polish attack really posed.
I appreciate Keller more every time I see him. The guy is really in control in the box and rarely makes mistakes. He's a real rock back there.
Take care,
PK

Lionel Messi was the star of the game, but in a losing cause.

I watched England Uruguay. Pretty bland until the last 15 minutes when England got two for a 2-1 victory after Beckham and Rooney were replaced.
For a friendly...the game wasnt, well, very friendly. Yello cards and alot of pushing and shoving. Looked like the ref was going to lose control for a minute.

I need to download Argentina-Croatia. That sounded like a damn good match.
I've started to watch England-Uruguay. Glad to hear it hots up, as what I've seen so far wasn't spellbinding. But the U.S.-Poland match was a stinker from whistle to whistle. When the most memorable thing about the match is the weather, that doesn't say much for the football!
