You Guys Still Enjoying your PSP?

These day's I dont have time anymore to sit in front of a tv and game, so I am seriously considering buying a PSP when MLB comes out this week. I wanted to ask the current PSP owners on the board here, if they are still happy with the system?

Are there any killer games you would recommend or does the system still lack the amount of games to make it a console replacement? I am considering picking up hot shots golf with mlb.

And, you guys know of any deals going on this week for psp at the retail stores?

I'm not enjoying mine (anyone want to buy it?), but since you don't have time to sit in front of the TV and game, it should work much better for you.

For handheld baseball, nothing can come close to MLB, and I bet that this year's will be even better. My biggest complaint last year was that my batting average for balls in play was way too high. That was off-set by a high strikeout rate though.

I don't see deals for it very often, other than something like a starter kit or something. I'm guessing that Sony has a very tight grip on what promos are acceptable, much like Apple.

There are rumors about a PSP with 8 GB of flash RAM built in.

I don't know how they could do it though and keep it at a reasonable price.

Just today, in the Best Buy ad, there is some 4 GB HDD accessory you can get for your PSP. That thing is $230.

Then there are 1 MB flash players which are all around $150 to start.

So unless they can buy flash RAM at market prices...

BTW, last year, UMD movie sales were going well but now they've slowed way down and studios are cutting back releases.

PSP could be a nice portable video player but most people aren't going to buy a big Memory STick Duo and convert DVDs to view them on the PSP.

The other thing they're working on is you can buy a Location Free unit and then watch your DVR or whatever you hook it up to over a wireless connection, like you would with a Sling Box and a laptop.

Of course, Sony promised that there would be some synergy between the PSP and the PS3 but they've promised a lot of things in the past.

I'm enjoying the new version of Madden, FightNight, and MLB when it comes out this week. It fits me perfect, when I'm at work and want to get a quick game in or just play for a few short moments, play and put the PSP to sleep, come back in a couple of hours and pick up were you stop.

Early on it wasn't a great investment, but as of late its getting better and better.

Can't wait for MLB this week. That and Pinball Hall of Fame will probably be in my PSP all summer.

I love the PSP. My biggest beef is the cost of the games. I think WE9 is without question the greatest handheld sports game ever. Liberty City stories is also great.

I'm really looking forward to MLB and if that doesn't play well then there is a least another option with 2K6. I'm also eagerly anticipating Gran Turismo or possibly Toca 2.

Yes, and enjoying every minute of it. WE9, Fight Night Rd 3, Virtua Tennis, GTA LCS, TW06, and MLB coming this week most definitely.

For that new psp, when is that suppose to come out? I dont want to buy the current one only to have it go down in price next month when the new one is out. Or like that link said, it's just rumor right now?

Right now the games I have on my list to buy are hsg or tigerwoods, we9, and mlb. I really like we9 on the ps2 but like I said before, I can't do gaming in front of a tv any longer. But on a handheld, I dont think I could put that thing down. Same would go with mlb the show.

I love the PSP. Great for travel. Great if you don't feel like sitting down at a tv or want to watch a program but still get a little gaming in. Also, great if you have a girlfriend who is watching a program that you really don't want to watch but she wants you to stay in the room. You get credit for being in the room but no bonus points for actually watching. Yes, I speak from experience.

There are some really good games out now for the PSP. Fight Night and WE9 are the ones I am playing now and I love it.

Don't forget to pick up Virtua Tennis, it look just as good as the dreamcast version with all the modes and its only 19.99. And remember sleepmode is your friend, I wish Sony would have introduced this technology a long time ago.

Madden is pretty fun, and Untold Legends is great for mindless hack and slash action. Colin McRae Rally is it for me - wonderful and worth importing. I do not have as much time to play these days, but I am going to check out WE9 and a baseball title.

With all that said, I am not so sure that the PSP is worth the money unless you travel, enjoy handheld games (really enjoy them that is) or want to game while your spouse is watching the TV.

Sold mine off awhile back to help finish off paying my 360 preorder.

Personally I think it's a great pieace of gear. If I would have been travelling as much as I was supposed to be when I picked it up I never would have ditched it.

The fact is though, that I'm not going to play a handheld at home when I can play on the big screen. I don't use public transporation and would never be able to play one when out and about.

I think it's a great toy for those who travel on business, but for a person in my situation it's just not sensible to own one.

I dont have one but my son does, and since i got WE 9 its hard to put down, playing footy while im taking a s*** is just brilliant, i can cancel all magazine subscriptions so i look at it as an investment , investment in hemeroid cream.

I cannot tell you how many times I have got caught up in my PSP game on the toilet and realized later that I can no longer feel my legs.

To answer the original question in the thread, yes I am still enjoying my PSP. There was a slow period after launch but things have really started to heat up on the PSP. I'm enjoying Socom, DJ Max Portable (an import from the makers of Beatmania), Winning Eleven 9, Grand Theft Auto:LCS, and Virtua Tennis.

The new Syphon Filter looks really good and the new MLB comes out this week. Perfect for when you travel or, like mentioned earlier, your wife/girlfriend is watching crap you don't want to.

I forgot to mention the PSP web browser. I think it is a great tool for quickly checking message boards, email, or scores.

Those last few responses are hilarious. I think everyone who has a PSP or has owned one has lost the sensation in their legs a time or two.

I'm still playing my PSP periodically. Looking back, it was by far and away my most expensive impulse purchase. It's definitely ideal for someone who travels a lot, or spends the majority of his gaming on a handheld. I'm not necessarily either of those people.

However, the times I've been stuck at the airport or flying, it's been a g-d send. Or the times when my son was waking up at 5:30 in the morning to go downstairs and watch Blues Clues, Wiggles, etc., I gamed while keeping an eye on him. Even the times when I've been too lazy to turn on the Xbox or the 360, it's been nice to lay in bed and do something mindless like game. Sure, I haven't taken advantage of the gaming hours someone who travels does, but I do feel like I've gotten my money's worth.

The PSP's game library continues to grow and more than ever, and there are more quality games out now than there was at launch. Load times aren't nearly as bad as they were initially. The majority of the sports games port over to the handheld extremely well, better than I ever envisioned them to. I'm looking forward to picking up MLB The Show as it played wonderfully last year on the PSP except for a few niggling issues I had with it personally.

I'll never have an extensive PSP library of games, but the ones I do have have a ton of replay value and keep me entertained. At this point, it makes no sense to sell it as I know there will be games that are out or will be coming out that I'll wish I could play on the go.

I think you'll be more than happy with your purchase.
