OT: Super Bowl Predictions
I'm thinking this game is going to be close. If Seattle's D steps up, I give the nod to the Seahawks. Plus, I think Alexander is going to have a big game.

Seahawks +4 and the over. That's how I'm playing it this weekend.
Take care,

I'm an AFC guy, and beating the top 3 seeds in the AFC on the road means more to me than beating two wildcard teams at home, especially when the AFC was the stronger conference this year. Oh yeah, plus I'm a diehard Steelers fan.
I look for the Steelers to come out strong like they have the past two games, and for the Seahawks to fold when the Steelers fans start rocking and the Terrible Towels start flying. Only two more days until Pittsburgh wins one for the thumb at Heinz Field West.

Actually I grew up in South Jersey, so I was an Eagles fan as a kid (and Cowboys too since my big brother was). But when Seattle entered the league I was 8 years old, thought their helmet was the coolest ever, and being a lefty myself took an instant liking to Jim Zorn. I've been a fan through thick and thin ever since. And it's mostly been thin! I never thought that I'd be watching my Seahawks in their first bowl with my daughter on my knee! But you have to stick with your team, and it makes it that much sweeter when it happens.sportdan30 wrote:From PA and still picking the Seahawks? You must root for the Eagles.
This is sort of a strange area to live in for sports, because as well as Philly and Pittsburgh, Baltimore and DC are right down the road, there there seems to be a good mix of fans. If my 'hawks didn't win then I'd be routing for the Steelers myself.
I'm getting a ton of good-natured grief (well mostly good-nautured) at work, but I think it will be a good game. I must admit that of all the teams in the playoffs, the Steelers are the ones that worry me the most. I would have rather faced Indy!

I hadn't checked today, but have things escalated? I thought J. Stevens' comments came first and were more uncalled for. Personally, I would prefer Alexander to Bettis too, but I don't blame Porter for this:Badgun wrote:I've been trying to find a reason to pull for Jerome Bettis, but I just don't feel it. To me he's no more deserving than Alexander and Joey POrter's big mouth makes it easy to pull for Seattle.
All told, I'm pulling for the Steelers for Cowher and for Big Ben. I admire that Roethlisberger came into this season expected by many to fail and brought his team to the Superbowl. I think his tackle in the Indy game speaks a lot about his focus, even if it wasn't the most elegant takedown. Plus I dig the way the Steelers' LBs have played throughout these playoffs.Porter wrote:I've been asleep all week, but now I got woke up...
I'm going to make sure he owns up to those words
I've underestimated the Seahawks before, but I'm still gonna go with Pitt, 24-17.

Nobody runs against Pittsburgh, so I don't look for Shaun Alexander to have any impact. And Pittsburgh just gone done thumping Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer and Jake the Snake, the kind of qb who traditionally gives the Steelers fits, all on the road. I haven't seen much of Matt Hasselback, but I bet Dick Lebeau has.
They just said on NFL Network that Pittsburgh had the best road record of any team in the NFL all time. Anything can happen in sports, but the Steelers should blow 'em out.
Steelers 34, Seahawks 17.

It's a toss up for me. I really can't figure it out! Sometimes I think Pit. has the advantage, with the running game and the small Seattle D. But the Seattle D. has surprised me before, and Big Ben is still only a 2nd year guy and the SB hype could have its effects on him. Plus, they haven't seen too many non-blitzing defenses, and those 7 in the back could lead Ben to try to force some throws.
On the other hand, Seattl has all the pieces. Hasselbeck I think is as good as it gets at QB right now, and has been on fire all playoffs. They've had the 2-week layoff already (although they didn't start fast agains the Skins), and appear to be all business in Detroit so far. Alexander can take over a game, with that top-notch O-line leading the way.
I think it will have to come down to special teams, and I think with Cowher the Steelers have better special teams. If Pitt can control the ball and the clock, they could wear down the Seattle D. Then again, Seattle can score in bunches once they get going, and an experienced QB can take advantage of over-agressive safeties in the passing game. . .
I don't know.
I say Pitt, 27-24. Tomorrow morning I may say Seattle, 30-27.

We're having a Superbowl party with 15 adults and 6 kids. It will be crowded in my house. So crowded, in fact, that I decided my 50" HDTV is not big enough, so I borrowed a projector from work and now have both my 50" AND a 14 ft screen on the wall of my living room. We have a large living/dining area with 20+ft ceilings (Florida, single-story home), so there is a perfect spot to project a nice big image.
Wife has been cooking all day, and the menu is absurd. If it's tasty, fattening, and contains cheese, we're having it.
It'll be nice to relax for a Superbowl for a change, as a Patriots fan I've grown used to tense Superbowls that are all about the game. This one's just for fun. Hell, I think it's nice of us to let someone else have a turn.

If both teams play their best (rare in Super Bowls) then the Steelers will win by 3-7 pts. The Steelers will have trouble if they lose the turnover battle by more than 1. The Steelers are battle-hardened and experienced. The Super Bowl will be their 10th game against a playoff team this season! A lot of the key players have played in 9 or more playoff games and 3 AFC Championship games. Ben has less experience than Hasselbeck in the regular season, but he has played in more playoff games.
Football games are never decided based on who you played in the past, but their easy schedule makes it very difficult for me to gauge how good the Seahawks are. Except for the NFC Championship game against a team playing with it's 4th string RB and hobbled premier defender, Seattle really didn't score that many points in meaningful games against teams with .500 records or better...14 against Jax, 17 and 20 against the Skins, 13 against Dallas, 21 vs. ATL, and 24 (Overtime) vs. NYG. Therefore, I think Seattle is going to score between 14 and 21 points in the Super Bowl. If the Steelers don't turn the ball over and aren't settling for FG (how great have they been in the Red Zone in the playoffs...it's amazing) then they will be fine.

I will be rooting for the SeaHawks because of the New England flavor on that team with BC grad and Xaverian HS alum Hassleback and Lofa Tutupi from King Phillip HS and played at Maine for a season when I was at UNH. Also, a Harvard grad is a backup linebacker too.
GO Local guys
Yes, the Steelers have a UNH grad at fullback but I could care less.
Seahawks 27-21.
