Some quick thoughts.

I am thoroughly enjoying Load and Fire. I try and sit on pitches on the inner half, go for power on any O Strike count and 2-1, 3-1.

I love that pitches up in the zone are normally pop fly's, high line drives, etc....while balls lower in the zone need great timing to be driven....extremely realistic.

I deserve my hits, HR's, 2B's etc....and I deserve my outs....I love it

I am 1-0 in my SDSU dynasty on defualt All-Star. I defeated #18 Long Beach State in my first game....I hit 2 clutch HR's....it felt so sweet.

I am not a fan of the batter animations that I can't skip over. I also am not a fan of some fielder animations. There is this goofy one where the 3B backhands a ball and while on his back foot throws a rocket to first....no way no how does that happen with any accuracy.

Goodwin Field where Cal State Fullerton plays is awesome. It even has the road behind left center that goes off the college.

I don't understand why sometimes I get a stutter when using the pitching meter. Sometimes it is smooth, sometimes rough.

I really look forward to examining the depth of this game...

Web.....nice comments.

However, I dont think that L&F is just last years hitting model in disguise.
In MVP 05 it was possible to aim low for a low pitch and hit it out. This will never happen with a contact swing in '06. Also, the "contact point" narrows with the power swing and widens with the contact swing. That wasn't the case if you aimed up or down in MVP05. So it is similiar, but not exactly the same.

Thanks!

Yeah, they may not completely the same, but they are essentially the same; you'll want to approach hitting using many of the same techniques. You can hit HRs with the contact swing, though. Maybe not on balls down in the zone...

Jesus...just had my first Maryland dynasty game @ Navy:

17 innings, I won 1-0 on a solo shot by my first baseman. Thank God.

7 pitchers used for UM, emptied my bench. 20 hits, 3 doubles, 1 HR, 8 walks.

6 pitchers used for Navy, who also emptied their bench. 15 hits, 2 doubles, 7 walks.

I love this game. I am using Skyboxer's sliders over at OS with Pitch Cursor off, Vibration off, Hot/Cold Zones fade.

in my 7th game (Mich. State), playing 1-5 ND, I lost on a walk-off GRANNY... so much for having a closer.. 'course having a position starter
suspended 7 games due to academics hurts..

couple of questions:

-What is Dynasty like? I just want to play a "season". Do I have to do anything other than play my scheduled games in "Dynasty" mode. I dont know if I want to bother with all the stuff other than what happens on the field.

-anyone else giving up too many inside-the-park HR's? I gave up 3 in one game and almost threw my controller at the TV. Seems like my OF's are so slow after the initial boost wears off. If a ball gets by them and rolls to a gap, it is a certain triple and possibel HR. I guess I could raise my OF speed and lower the AI baserunning speed? Oh and maybe create a park that doesn't have far away nooks and crannies ( I was playing with the "Miami" park, which is a copy of where the Marlins play). Maybe I'll switch to "Queens" (Shea copy).

In my season opener with Villanova at Tennessee I was 10-run ruled. Down 11-0 after the top of 7, the pulled the mercy rule on me. So my goal for game 2 is to complete a full game.

It really showed me the difference in quality between. I was able to win a couple of exhibition games with evenly matched teams. Against Tennessee, anything I pitched in the strike zone he crushed.

Jack - if you just want to play a season, there is not that much to it. I played about 5 games and simmed through the rest and it was not that big a deal. Not a lot of nag screens like in some franchise/dynasty modes.

You have the option to recruit every week and will be offered several challenges via email, but you don't really have to do any of that if you don't want.

I did go through the season and recruited with mixed results. I did a create a team using Boston Colleges roster, so I was a medium talented team. I ended up with only 2 interested recruits - one of which I pissed off by lowballing him. So I only got 1 recruit and 5 walkons for my efforts.

Here's one of my favourite sites for roster updates but I can't get it on my AR. If you guys can DL the .MAX format let me know.

I officially don't understand load and fire. When you are you supposed to load. Before the pitch, during the windup, after the windup but before the pitcher releases it?

In my last game I lost 2-1. I had 1 hit for a homer and Cal-Poly had 10 hits. I was also walked 6 times and still couldn't get anybody home.

For those of you hoping for backwards compatibility...straight from the developer:
4. Xbox 360 BC - Obviously, we want as many people to play MVP as possible. Many of us have 360's too remember. All I can say is that the "powers that be" are working on it. I wish I had more for you, but I don't. If we hear anything, ya'll will hear about it too.
This is from a post over at OS. The developer seems like a decent guy.

Timing and good weight transfer are essential to good hitting. One mechanism to help achieve both is the coil. As the pitcher starts his delivery, you will want to move your weight back on to the back leg, closing your shoulder, hips, and knee. This is also the point when you want to move the bat into the launching position. When the coil is complete you are in the correct position to stride.
I prefer to wait a bit longer. Some pitchers have long drwan out deliveries so I coil when the pitcher the pitcher coils (lifts his front leg).

i pull back just as the balls released, if you notice you can hold it back but if it vibrates after 5 seconds or so then you know that was too long, so i think your ok as long as it doesn't vibrate.

I think each person will find their own rhythm as far as load timing goes, but yeah, you want to be fully back before you swing, without any of the vibration. I tend to be a little later too, right around the pitcher's release.

the other side of it is, you want to pull back early enough so you don't have rush your downward movement. If you pull back to late and try and ruch the swing, you get a jerky swinging motion. I have noticed that when you have a smooth back and forth motion is when you hit the longer balls.

I still can't find a copy of this game at any Best Buy. I hope they get more in by the 31st.

Mizzou,

They had a good four or five copies at the Best Buy in Chesterfield yesterday.

By the way, sorry about the loss to Nebraska. Quin is as good as gone. Which is not good for the rest of the conference.

I've noticed copies at Target around here over the past week. More PS2 than XBox, but at least they are carrying it.

I'm still really enjoying this game but I must be the only person who can't pitch worth sh*t on Varsity level. I feel like my pitching strategy is technically sound, hitting corners, edges of the zone, and cold zones, but I'm just getting pounded for singles and doubles regularly with the occasional HR thrown in for good measure. It isn't uncommon for my mid-80s rated pitcher to have given up 10+ hits through 3 innings with anywhere from 2-8 runs scored...even against teams like Michigan St. and Indiana St.

My primary problem is that the CPU just doesn't swing and miss very often or watch strikes, even if I've walked a couple guys before the next hitter.

I've made big-time progress on hitting by directing the thumbstick left or right to go with the pitch. It really increased the number of liners making it to the gaps.

I changed the CPU Swing slider to like -30. Much better for me now re: taking pitches.

Sorry my ass. :D I thought Quinn was going to save face this year, oh well it's time for a change.

Thanks for the heads up, it's off to Best Buy today at lunch.
