Xbox Live Connection Issue

Post by Danimal »

Fellas -

I need some help as I am grasping at straws. I finally got my 3rd 360 from the repair center on Monday and everything seems fine. Except I am having a weird Live issue and I'm not sure if it is 360 related.

I have a guy on my firneds list that I can not play a game with (there may be more, but I haven't encountered it yet). With my last 2 360's I was able to play this guy in PGR3 (game in question) and direct chat.

But now neither one of us can join a game the other one is in. Here is a rundown on it:

- I can't join a game he creates, he can't join mine.
- If a mutual friend creates the game the first one of us in can join and the other one then gets an error message saying can't communicate with all players. If the first guy in leaves, the 2nd can join etc.
- we can no longer chat via Live

Now I can join random games, I can also at least joing a game by 2 other friends on my list. Live support says it is a router issue, but if it was why can I connect to anyone?

The only thing that has changes is I got a 3rd 360 and I updated the firmware on my router. We have both deleted each other from our friends list and added back etc. Nothing seems to work, I am at a loss.

I am looking for anyone with some technical knowledge that could confirm this could be a router issue, before I press the Live support team or send my 360 back for a 3rd time!

Might be your router. Go into netwrk setting and run a test. If the last thing doesn't show up as "Open" you might need to update your firmware. there is a section at Xbox.com that covers Xbox Live compatible routers. Even though you may have a router on the list the firmware could need updating. I'll grab you a link....

The test does comes up as Open. According to the list my router is compatible and i have the latest firmware, it is also comaptible.

Thanks for the info though

Well not really, I was having dsl problems that day.

I'm sure it is a router issue, I just can't imagine what it could be.

It is probably due to you or your friend's NAT translation - as pointed out above. I have the same problem with a friend - he updated his router firmware and all seems fine. The hard part is that it may not be your end causing the problem, so have your friend check his router as well.

It's certainly a router/internet issue and NOT related to your 360, so hold on to that baby and don't send it in.

A hardware problem with the 360 would not manifest itself as a problem connecting to a specific individual etc., it would simply NOT connect to Live at all.

I would recommend placing your 360 in your router's DMZ, thereby eliminating the use of port filters etc. Have your friend do the same. If that doesn't work, then the only explanation is likely that the path on the info superhighway between the two of you is particularly congested for some reason.

Two articles posted on Xbox.com confirm what everone is saying about NAT

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911932/en-us
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908880/

Now I know mine is set to open, I'll have him chekc his. When I tried to join a random game this morning, it said "unable to communicate with all players" and booted me.

This is the part that doesn't make sense, my NAT is open, someone is actually in a game lobby with a restricted or closed NAT preventing me from getting in?

I don't get it.

Same router I have. I had the same issues until I installed this beta firmware on the router. Ever since then, I haven't had a single issue with Xbox Live and playing any games online. In fact, I made a post on the Xbox.com forums -> http://forums.xbox.com/1780167/ShowPost.aspx

Follow those instructions, and everything should be fine.

Aceman thanks, I am going to give this a try. As i read your message I just thought that perhaps I was using my 614 during my first 360 uses.

I'll try your solution and if it doesn't help I'll go back to the 614, since I currently have no wireless products in the house, using the 624 shouldn't matter.
