Barry Strikes Again!

Post by Jeff »

That great teamate, clubhouse cheerleader and all around "good guy" Barry Bonds, it has been reported, has told reporters that he wiil NOT bat 2nd as suggested by manager Felipe Alou. I guess Felipe thought it was a good idea as it would get "The Great Bonds" more at bats.

Barry's comment was he did not feel at this point in his career..."It would not work for me to be the second bat."

This guy kills me! I wonder what would have happened 30-40 years ago if a player undermined his manager that way. They would have a one-way ticket back to Pawtucket, Tidewater or Medicine Hat. But in todays world of mega-stars and hundred million dollar contracts the players call the shots and the managers are the babysitters of these egos.

I was actually hoping he would retire. He talked about it last year after his knee problems. He's gonna break the HR record and stain the MLB record books.

Sorry about the "rant" guys.

He also said that expect him to come into the season much smaller due to his knee injury last year. Some people were saying thats an excuse since he's weened himself off the steroids last year which would make him a much smaller player.

He's right though...Batting Barry Bonds second is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of.

And yes...he's gonna be smaller. That's what happens when you get off the juice.

Bat him first for even more at bats!!!

Bonds lost a ton of credibilty with me when he called Boston "a racist city" since he has never been to Boston in the last 25 years.

I guess it's almost baseball season.

I can see Alou's reasoning for moving Bonds up in the order. It probably would have been a good idea to discuss in Arizona before musing about it publicly. But to suggest that stars and managers didn't disagree during the Golden Years of baseball is just wrong. Bonds wouldn't have been demoted in 1966, 1956 or 1906. The Gigantes put a AAA lineup on the field much of last season with predictable results. There's a huge difference between a cranky, gimpy Bonds and a healthy Todd Linden or Jason Ellison.

"Disagreements" happen on all teams, at virtually every level. I am sure there are scores of disagreements throughout every big league clubhouse,

Barry said...."It would not work for ME to bat second." Did anyone hear the word "TEAM." And on Barry's best day...he could hope to be referred to as "cranky."

My only point is the guy just doesn't get it. And he can't understand why the media is after him all the time. For once I would like to see him take the high road. He could do so much to help his cause by being a little less belligerent, and tough to root for.

(Boom!) That was the sound of me getting off my Barry Bonds soapbox.

On Cold Pizza this morning they showed footage of Barry playing in some charity golf outing in the Carribean. He is definitely not smaller, he's FAT. He looks like someone who used to work out a lot, and then just stopped and turned to moosh. Really beefy. He looked to be a least 250.

He's got some work to do if he thinks he is starting the season under two bills.

He does not look bad in that pic. But you had to see the story, when he was out on the course playing. The people in the studio were making fun of how fat he looked. He definitely looked fat in the video I saw. Check out that video and then get back to me.

I heard on the radio this morning that ESPN was thinking about doing a reality show that follows Barry Bonds on his quest to break the homerun record. Do they not realize that not many people like Barry Bonds?

But we'd watch anyway...just to see the train wreck. It wouldn't be the first time the general public watched a show about someone they don't like. Hell, somehow Todd Bridges got on Skating with Celebrities...when the hell did he become a celebrity?

A couple of criminal offenses and a TV show make anyone a celeb
