OT: 24 - 2006 season
I missed last night's debut episode. Can someone please give me a rundown?
The first season, this show broke new ground. After that it was nice to have a second season. However, its now just another action drama. The writers, directors ect threw realism out the window long ago for ratings.
I loved it last night when they were calling out an IP, its not even a real IP(292.) I doubt they would give out a public routable IP do to security reasons ect as the owner of that IP could get attacked, but at least give out a real private non-routable IP.
How many times can the same man save the world?
I would love to see a Jack Bower Cuck Norris celebrity death match.
I am not bashing the show, I have seen every single episode of every season. Its good entertainment, but please give me some realism.

Well, to be fair, every phone number in TV & movies is 555-whatever.bdunn13 wrote: I loved it last night when they were calling out an IP, its not even a real IP(292.) Anyway, as much as I love good ol' Jack Bauer, you just can't mess with Chuck Norris.....remember what he did to that rat in Missing In Action? lol
Inuyasha.
Download the episodes via torrent, like Wco said you should watch them.

Former president David Palmer is killed in the opening scene by a sniper. Then Tony Almeda and Michelle are blown up by a car bomb...Michelle dies and Tony is barely hanging on. Then we see Jack with his new identity, Frank Flynn and Chloe calls him on his cell phone and tells him about the murders.
Jack then decides he needs to find out why Palmer and the others were killed. He meets up with Chloe and they get ready to go to where Palmer was shot, but Jack discovers the 15 year old son of the woman he has been seeing has followed him. He doesn't trust Jack and this doesn't help matters at all.
Jack then finds out that he has been framed for Palmer's and Michelle's murders and they even have footage of him at the scene of the crime. Jack runs into Palmer's brother and once he believes Jack didn't kill his brother, he offers to help Jack. He almost gets caught leaving the building, but bails out and Chloe is taken into custody. When she is taken back to CTU details begin to surface about Palmer's muder. She tells them that Jack is being set up and he did not do it.
Then we find out something big is going to go down at the airport at the same time the russian president and american president are going to sign an anti terrorism pact. As the show ended Sunday night, we see a bunch of hostages being taken at the airport by quite a few bad guys. But never fear, Jack Bauer is on the scene.
Minor spoiler:
One thing that always pisses me off about this show is how the terrorists always get someone on the inside. Usually it's at CTU, but this time the guy is like the president's right hand man. It blows my mind how they think we could buy into that. Most presidents usually are surrounded by people that have been with them for years and are very loyal...not to mention the huge background checks. I just can't buy into that.
Re: OT: 24 - 2006 season
LOL, Badgun, CTU has the worst human resources department on the planet. It made some sense the first season with Nina, now it's become kind of a running gag.Badgun wrote:Minor spoiler:

However, after souring on both seasons 3 and 4, I am roped back in for this one. The scenes at the terminal were some of the best in the series.

I'm a 24 Lemming. It's like a disease. Last night, watching it via TIVO, I almost deleted it about 4 times, each time saying to myself, "This is just !@#$'ing ridiculous." I'm particularly sour, just like Badgun, that every damn year there is "someone on the inside" that is apparantly pure evil. This year it's the Chief of Staff? That's beyond ludicrous. But I keep watching. I wish I could remove the 24 tumor that is inside my brain, but it's deep.

Oh, I know, and I may not make it through the season. But I have to admit these first couple of nights were pretty damn entertaining. I don't care if it's about as realistic as Thunderballbdunn13 wrote:Brando,
I agree its good entertainment.. but realistic, not hardly.
Forget about the CTU HR dept, the strategic errors the gov makes in the field is freaking nutty.

Well if you want some smacktalk, David Fury, a veteran screen writer, is a co-executive producer of the series.
Fury is the same guy who told Rolling Stone a few months back that when he was on the Lost staff, it was apparent to him that they were making stuff up as they go along.
That caused a ruckus as one might imagine.
Of course, 24 has had the same accusations leveled against it as well. But 24 answers a lot of questions in the course of a season so it doesn't get the fans to fill in the blanks the way Lost has.
Imagine the conflict if they aired on the same day and hour. :p

From Season 1 the biggest inaccuracy is Jack Bauer getting around LA in about 5-15 minutes. If this was realistic the show would go like this...Bill_Abner wrote:I'm a 24 Lemming. It's like a disease. The following events take place from 4 PM to 5 PM.
Jack Bauer sitting in car.

President gets killed. Atomic Bomb goes off at CTU. Jack starts shooting motorists.
I think 24 is great. Really gave a shot in the arm to the action suspense genre, especially on TV where that kind of stuff is typically abysmal.
The "reality" of the show is never a problem for me other than judging sometimes when they do it better in context than other times. I view it like an American post 9/11 James Bond so the reality of it, is never a issue for me. I think a lot of people view it in that manner..

Same here, I can't bring myself to delete the season pass from Tivo (wife wouldn't let me anyway). If Derek, the new brainless kid, gets chased by mountain lions later this season, I think they've lost me.Bill_Abner wrote:I'm a 24 Lemming. It's like a disease. As long as he doesn't just vanish off the face of the earth, a lá Behrooz, presumably dropped into some middle eastern black hole to rot. What I love about 24 is how they give up all their secrets as fast as possible and then rush to invent new and exciting twists and turns, complete with their own bushell of secrets and dual alegiances. . . .Brando70 wrote:LOL, or if his mother gets temporary amnesia.jondiehl wrote:If Derek, the new brainless kid, gets chased by mountain lions later this season, I think they've lost me.
I'd much rather have Haysbert's Palmer around than his idiot brother, but whatever. Even without any future chance of more Haysbert, this season is shaping up to be a big step up from the last couple, but this show lost any sense of realism about three minutes into the pilot. The actor playing the President really drives me up the wall. But who's the Vice President? Maybe this guy will get killed by his duplicitous aide, and we can get a new President, like James Brolin or something.

Here's a interview with one of the top writer/producers on the show.

It's funny that this guy has a math and programming background but the show uses an IP address starting with 292. But as he says, they're interested in drama, not realism for realism's sake.
What he has to say about torture is interesting. A lot of people who would normally be against torture by the US do watch 24 for the fantasy, the "torture porn." They revel in Jack Bauer kicking ass, even though they may not always think Bauer's methods are the most effective or moral.

I like the President.....or let's say more precisely I like the dynamic of having a president that isn't the most lovable upstanding kind of guy. (Although I admit I liked Haysbert.) That part actually strikes me as somewhat more realistic as they seem to be going for more of a nixon style president. Hell, he even looks like Nixon.Zeppo wrote: We definitely need a new President, this guy's lack of a chin is driving me insane.
I read the slate article yesterday and agree with it. The show is not going to let realism get in the way of drama which seems to be a fine choice considering the show is going for a very mainstream audience.

How 'bout him for President? Any other ideas? We definitely need a new President, this guy's lack of a chin is driving me insane.
