OT: In the market for New Golf Clubs
I am looking to purchase some new irons for the upcoming golf season. I need something that will last me about 4-5 years with play about twice a week.
I am looking to spend between 200-400 bucks for a set of irons. Any good deals out there?

For that amount of money, you should find the Callaway's X-16 (2 year model) with a graphite shaft, or the Nike's forged irons. What's your handicap? If you're a casual weekend golfer, going for any brand names like TaylorMade, Cleveland, Callaway with the 2-3 year models are a great buy (again with the budget that you have provided). Steel shafts are cheaper for greater accuracy and control while graphiye shafts are more forgiving. Wilson makes good clubs for beginners.
I was about a 10 handicap back when I was in High School stopped playing in college and picking it up again since I am out of college and working nights now...I was thinking about the 2-3 year old models like you said.10spro wrote:For that amount of money, you should find the Callaway's X-16 (2 year model) with a graphite shaft, or the Nike's forged irons. I have a Cleveland Launcher 400, 8.5 degree loft. I LOVE it. It is the most amazing driver I have ever hit, and I've tried a bunch. It looks right when addressing the ball, feels amazing for my swing tempo (I made sure to get an appropriate shaft in it) and I can hit it very far (300) when I go for it (and still be pretty accurate.)Zlax45 wrote: Also, Anyone ever hit some Cleveland clubs?
But the most important thing is... it is MONEY when I want to lay back a bit and just "hit a fairway", it's better than pulling out a 2 iron or 3wood. 250-260 dead straight. More than a few times last year I had people comment on how deadly accurate I was with the driver.
I can manipulate the ball flight reasonably well with it (for an oversized club).
Can you tell I love it?
As far as other Cleveland clubs, I have only ever hit this driver and their wedges. The wedges are really nice as well, but I've only ever hit some on the range.
Maybe a little more than your listed price range but I love my Mizuno irons--MX23. Ive had them 2 seasons now.
I have a ping G2 driver- they just replaced it with the G5 so you can likely find the G2 on the cheap. It came out 2 yrs ago and was extremely popular.

Ahhh...winter in the northeast.....nothing makes me yearn for golf more than these cold Syracuse winters. I try to hit the indoor range 1x/week and I took a lesson in December and Ill take another in Feb to keep me thinking about the swing. Thanx for posting a golf thread.

I'm heading to www.bandondunes.com on February 24 - Feb 28.
My 8-index game will likely not break 100 there. I'll be rusty, it'll be links golf with cool weather and wind, and the courses there are hard enough without the damn wind.

My wife got me Taylor Made RAC OS2s for X-mas. Played with them for the first time on Monday and I LOVE THEM! They are made for mid-20 handicappers, and are really forgiving (although you loose a little feel). She got them here for $400:
