What a f***in joke!! Where did they get that crew?

Here are the calls that the officals blew that I remember:

1. Ed Hinkel catches a 20 yard pass for a first down in the first quarter, but was carried about five feet by the defender and landed out of bounds, and the officials call it incomplete, with no review.

2. Calvin Davis gets crushed late after dropping a pass, which the defender clearly saw was dropped, yet he took a couple of steps and crushed him late, no personal foul called.

3. Schnoor gets called for running into the kicker on a Florida punt late in the first half, which was questionable at best. The flag was thrown about five seconds after the hit occured though.

4. Right after the first down they got from the running into the punter, Iowa gets called for a helmet to helmet hit on Leak. Replays clearly show that the hit was not late, and that the defender did not in any way hit Leak with his helmet. That play led to a td pass for Florida on the last play of the first half, which never would have happened if they didn't call the personal foul.

5. WR Clinton Solomon is called for a personal foul facemask on a play where he was blocking, yet the replays show that in fact the Florida defender grabbed his facemask and pulled him to the ground. Not sure how they call Solomon for a facemask on that play.

6. Florida completes a pass on third down up to near the first down line. The officials however place the ball a full yard past the first down marker, even though replays show at best he got right to the first down line.

7. Iowa snaps the ball when Florida has 12 men on the field, with the 12th man a good five yards from getting to the sideline in a rush to get off the field before the snap. However, there is no flag on the play.

8. Iowa executes a perfect onside kick and recovers at the Florida 45 yard line, yet they are called for offsides on the kick, even though the replays clearly show the Iowa player was onside. This was the biggest blown call of the game, as it robbed Iowa of an opportunity to tie the game.

I'm not saying that Iowa would have won if the officials had done their job, but at least they would have had a chance. They were completely robbed of the opportunity to win the game, which is wrong. I'm still proud of the way they fought through the adversity to nearly comeback from a 24 point 4th quarter defecit. It just really sucks to have the officials take away the game from you.

The smaller conference refs have been terrible this bowl season. It's ironic that two Big 10 schools (Iowa and Michigan) have suffered because of it.

Overrated Auburn was raped.

Wisconsin goes for over 500 on offense, and holds Auburn to a little over 200.

Congrats to Barry Alvarez. Excellent coach.

Hey, hey, hey...yes to getting the pudding pounded out of them, but overrated? I think not. Not prepared to play today? Absolutely. They stunk. It happens.

But congrats to Wisconsin. They DID come ready to play, despite the drastic climate change and the further distance.

As far as the Florida game, whoa. I smell a payola... The last call (the onside kick) was a joke. An absolute, inexplicable joke...

I don't know how many times I heard that Zbikowski is a Golden Gloves boxer, and that Charlie Weis is Bill Parcells-esque.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching ND get their asses handed to them. Ohio St. shot themselves in the foot repeatedly, and still won by 2 TD's.

That was one helluva performance by the Buckeyes.

Ugh. Or how many times did we have to see Laura Quinn? That was just horrible.

I liked the outcome though :D Go Big Ten!!!

Yeah, I know. It just bothers me when people throw the words rape or Nazi around with little thought of the true meaning of those words. To equate a bad officiating call to one of the worst things that can happen to a woman just isn't my thing. Apparently I'm in the minority about this though since noone else spoke up and Sully even italicized it. :x

Not that it matters, but I'm with you on this one.

OSU looked damn good today. I don't follow them much at all, but I find it hard to believe they had a QB contraversy with the way Smith played today. You guys are spot-on about Musburger, they must have had a 10-minute prep or something with how many times they brought up the same stuff. Notre Dame's defense just couldn't get off the field, how many 3rd and longs did OSU convert?

A much better day for the Big 10 at least.

I suppose that I'd be indignant about some of these blown calls IF THE DAMN GAMES MEANT ANYTHING!!! I just don't see the point in getting bent out of joint about the NCAA post-season exhibition games :)

Georgia did it to themselves by letting it get outta hand early, then having to claw back in it. In the end, they just couldn't figure out how to stop that little spitfire QB-not to mention Slaton...good grief at the speed...

I am not glum. WVU handed played nearly a perfect game and won by 3 while Georgia turned the ball over 3 times, were down 28 and found a way to get back into the game. Not to mention Georgia was suppose to finish 3rd in the SEC East and yet they found a way to win the SEC.

DJ Shockley had a great season the kid could have been something very special if he could have started for 4 years. I am just thankful he was loyal to Georgia as he could have transfered and played almost anywhere.

Back to WVU, their QB is freaking amazing. All night I was thinking if #17(Blue) can get one clean hit on him, he will stop running so damn much. However, he is so shifty no one on Georgia could get a clean hit on him all night. I still can't beleve this kid is only a fresman. If I had to do my preseason top 5 right now, WVU is somewhere in it, prob around 3 with all the offensive talent they have returning.

Georgia has 3 solid back coming back next year and the number 1 QB recruit in Matt Stafford(rivals.com). They might lose Pope early to the draft as well as their DE Moses. They will struggle some next year but should be decent again in a couple of years.

Its hard to be too upset when you think your team is going to win 8 games and they end up winning their Conference and rack up 10 wins.

Grats WVU.

Go Dawgs.

Agreed 100 percent. Hard to get riled up when the only game that means anything is Wednesday. I guess I would feel a smidge differently if Syracuse was in a bowl game, but then again there have been no icicle sightings lately in hell.

Meaningful postseason football starts this weekend ... !!!

Take care,

There are several things that bother me about bowl games.

Obviously, one of them is that they do not function in a way that shows us who the best teams are. This is partially due to the fact that bowl choices are often based on how well the fans travel rather than how well the team performed. And if the BCS has a chance, Notre Dame will be chosen every year because they bring the fans and they give a bump to the TV ratings.

Another problem is that there is a disconnect because there is so much time between the end of the season and the bowl games. If the bowl game is particularly meaningless, I think that coaches use the game as a springboard for the new year rather than a way to finish the old year on a positive note. Teams play for the future and showcase new talent, and the old talent is playing with an eye toward the NFL scouts. It can make for some ugly football.

This year the bowls seem particularly meaningless. I don't know what to take away from the games so far about who the best conference is this year. Early in the day, it looked like the SEC was going to be the clear winner. But the losses by Auburn and Georgia turned that upside down. I think that Wisconsin had more motivation due to Barry's last game, but I am not sure about Georgia's problem. I think that playing in the Georgia Dome actually turned out to be a negative for the Bulldogs. Rather than get a trip to a new place like New Orleans, Georgia got to play their third game in a row in Atlanta. I would bet that the game felt more like just another game and not a BCS bowl to the Georgia players. WVU, meanwhile, had a chip on their shoulders. Weeks of reading about how weak the Big East is and the many hillbilly references in the local papers probably had them fired up and ready.

Next year should be interesting. Ohio State and Texas could be just as big next year as it was this year. A lot depends on what happens on Wednesday, but even if Young leaves early, Texas will have a lot of talent on the field and will have the home field advantage. Ohio State will come in with a lot more confidence at QB that they did this year.

LSU, Virginia Tech, WVU all will come in with a shot to win as well, but all those teams have flaws that could hold them back or cost them a game that knocks them out of the championship chase. Miami will be interesting because of all the off the field changes taking place. It will be interesting to see Miami with a revamped coaching staff play FSU who looks to stick with their uninspired offensive coaching staff. The loser of that game could fall off the mat, and the winner is by no means going to have a cakewalk through the ACC. Not sure what to expect from Notre Dame. It may be too early to start seeing the results of Weis's recruiting, so it may be another year of trying to get the best out of limited talent on defense.

In light of everything else, I'm not sure overall how meaningful Wednesday's game will be. I mean, I know both teams are really good, but without a playoff system, it just comes down to opinion driving the top two seeds.

I'd rather see them earn it on the field in the postseason, than see it awarded to them via computers and opinions before the season ever starts...
