Well call me crazy, but I got my box for return yesterday and decioded not to return my nit after reading the Xbox forums. My console is giving me rare, sporadic problems. It has frozen twice in at least 40 - 50 hours of play and occasionally when I put in a game, it tells me to put it in a 360.

The reason I choose not to return the unit, is by reading the forums it is clear MS repair isn't fixing anything. They are sending out new systems, which in theory sounds great. But some people are getting systems back that are new, but in worse shape then the ones they sent in.

I decided it wasn't worth the risk that I'd get a new system that might not work at all. I bought the extended warranty from MS and I figure in 3 or 6 months once they work out their manufacturing issues I will send it in for repair.

I totally agree and would have done the same thing had my original 360 been playable.

And that's why I'm holding off. My system freezes, but it's not very often by any means. It's only been 3 times "in game" since launch day and 2 more times when I am going to my dashboard from in-game.

I've got the extended warranty and will take the liberty of using that just shy of a year from now.

I am sending mine in for replacement. When I first got it, COD seemed to freeze when loading the first level. Then, after working the first time around, both PGR 3 and PDZ gave me "wrong region" errors (i.e. check to see if the region of the disc and console are the same, clean the disc, or restart it.) After that, they all worked, though last night, I think COD froze once. Since I am going out of town for the holidays, I will send it off and hopefully have a better unit when I return.

So far, so good.

The problem with my first 360 was obviously a cooling issue. This one is running *much much* cooler. It's cool to the touch except for a little warmth from the back. The last one I could almost literally use as a heater and it was warm to the touch in most areas.

I haven't tried it yet. We bought a stand alone DVD player last weekend since the kids are watching a lot of videos and I want to "save" the 360 for gaming :D

If you ever pop in a DVD, let us know if the performance is better.

Javi, I just tried it out and it's absolutely better. It's the same quality as the standalone Sony I just bought. You'll be very pleased with it.

my 360 just crapped out w/ freezing on all games about 1 minute into the game. Funny thing was I have owned the console since day 1 w/ no problems. About 3 days ago, i got my first freeze. Yesterday I would get a freeze after about 30 minutes or so. Now it is almost instantaneously. It's as if the box is self destructing before my eyes. They asked me to mail in only the console (no HD or power brick). My concern is that the send me another defective model, or worse the problem is in the brick and not the console.

Now I gotta play regular xbox for the next 2 weeks.

Well, it looks like I'm going to test out their service as well. I've been getting occasional graphical glitches like a flicker of color here and there or a texture that seems to pop in and out of view. I wasn't too worried at first because I figured it was just poor coding but the problem has gotten worse over time. Last night while playing perfect dark I started getting constant flashes of color and bright green and yellow triangles showing up all over the place.

I called customer support and they are shipping me a return box. They actually asked me to include the hard drive and the power brick with the system. Hopefully I'll get the quick turnaround that others have received.

Damn. Major bummers, on both counts. I had figured that as with most such stuff, if the unit is OK for the first week or so, it is going to be OK for a good long while. Sounds like that's not the case with these things.

I haven't had the big problems, but I have had some occasional freezes. They've all come when I am in a game, usually in some kind of loading screen, and go to check the friends list. In some online PGR3 games, I've accidentally hit the 'look at gamer profile' button after the race, and as the game loads out of the race, and the player who was in the race I was in and I all disconnect from the room, it's frozen up. All my freezes have been something like that, so I've just figured it was software related. I've yet to have any freeze of any kind during normal gameplay, or any of the bizarre texture popping or flashing colors or triangles or any of that. Fingers crossed.

I hope you guys get your boxed back soon. I was looking forward to some good co-op later this week mixer, but I guess it will have to wait. :( At least I still have BF:MC from gamefly. . .

I think my problem has been there from the beginning but has just gotten worse. I noticed it early on with the flashing on the d-Pal screen in PDZ that I mentioned when we played co-op.

I'm not going to send mine back until next Tuesday since I've got a four day weekend coming up, so I'd be up for some more co-op this week. I'm going to put the 360 on the top shelf of my entertainment center and set up a fan to blow across it to see if that will let me play a little longer before the issues show up.

The sh*t we do to play our consoles. Nothing has changed over the years. From blowing in the Nintendo cartridges through our shirts, to flipping the original PSX upside down, to blowing fans across our brand new 360s...when will hardware manufacturers ever get it right?

I think we're silly to think that they ever will. They know we'll bend over backward to get the games to play right, so why bother creating a solid product?

Knock on wood, I don't have any issues with my 360 and I didn't have any with my original Xbox so I can't complain too much recently.

Just an FYI, an I had to dig 4 pages for this thread DB ;)

I sent mine in last Friday, got a brand new one today with an extra Hard Drive. Thing is quieter, my problems are gone. Here is hoping it lasts.

EDIT: Spoke too soon, upon further review I am having the same "insert disc into a 360 issue" taking a closer look at the unit, instead of the paperwork they sent back. They did not give me a new unit, they sent me back the exact same system and apparently did nothing to it.

Now I am on hold waiting for a new box.

Just be patient my friend. I am on my 3rd console and its working like a champ. Keep the Hard drive they sent you, and if you get another one you can put them both on Ebay. Thats what I did and it will make it worth your troubles and having to wait ( i know it sucks). In the end it will all be worth it when you have a 360 with no problems and you can make a little $$$ off MS.

I am going to be on my 3rd box as well. The one they shipped me to replace my original system had the same overheating problem and it also had a loose screw or some other metal piece rolling around in the case. If system number three has problems I'm just going to go back to the retailer and get a refund. I enjoy the system (when it's working properly) and the new Xbox Live but if they can't keep the things running I'll just go back to PC gaming.

Here we go.

After not having any problems yesterday.

PGR has freezed on my 3 times, all on loading screens.

1 of them was loading the game, the other 2 where loading screens after finishing a race.

I also did notice a slight color wash effect on another loading screen after a race.

While I don't think I have a overheating problem, I did notice a sound when I took the system out of the box. sounded like some bits of something where loose, rolling around inside.

BTW, the manufacturing date of mine is Nov 28.

Ughh...

I think you're going to find that even people with "working" 360's are going ot tell you PGR freezes a lot.

I own Madden, PGR, Perfect Dark, COD2 & NBA2k6 and have never had a single freeze or any other problem with any of them.
