Week 15 NFL thread
Colts are getting manhandled by the Chargers, but San Diego really missed a golden opportunity to score at the end of the half and put the hurt on.
Also, has their been another week this season with so many crappy games? It's like watching the consolation bracket in a fantasy football league.

San Diego would be doing the Colts a favour by holding on and beating them. Dungy and Co. could then start preparing for the playoffs (resting people etc.) without having to worry about the perfect record. When it comes down to it the only thing that matters for the Colts is getting to, and winning, the Superbowl.
Best wishes,
Doug

And I must give credit where credit is due -- you and the other QB switch supporters were completely right. Even with the bad interception he threw near the goal line, Grossman just had a lot more confidence and looked much sharper than Orton.RobVarak wrote:Bears.

Frankly even I didn't expect him to look that good that quickly. The difference in the level of accuracy was stark. Seeing receivers hit in stride made it look like a real NFL offense. Bad decision on the INT obviously, but man it felt good to have a 4:00 drive LOLBrando70 wrote:And I must give credit where credit is due -- you and the other QB switch supporters were completely right. The entire atmosphere was just insane. I haven't seen a crowd like that at Soldier Field in a long time. Very, very special. Plus that hit by Green which forced the fumble! Wow, great stuff.
Plus it had the added benefit of providing a new side game called "Who's crazier: Joe Theisman or Jim Mora, Jr." Theisman had the early lead with his comment that Orton shouldn't be removed because he'd "done everything the Bears asked him to." But then Mora had his meltdown with the refs and followed up with the crazy-ass 4th down calls. Theisman finished strong with his comment that WR's would gain the confidence of their QB's by doing things like breaking up errant passes instead of like catching them and stuff. I may have to go back and listen to the film for a final call on the winner

Still, you wouldn't believe how many teens and early 20s call Ron Mexico one of the best QBs in the game. I have two nephews in their late teens and 20s who insist Vick still is one of the top three QBs in the game, and many of their friends think the same.Inuyasha wrote:That was just a ass kicking tonight. It looked like Vick wasn't even trying in the 4th qtr of the game. Bears look like a different team with Grossman and could be dangerous in the playoffs. If they go back to Orton theyre one and out in the playoffs.
The power of hype and marketing, baby!
Take care,

You'll hate it even more if this victory over the Colts causes Indy to refocus and then steamroll everyone on a rampage to the Big Bowl in Detroit!bkrich83 wrote:I hate being a Charger fan.

I went to the Chargers-Colts game yesterday with a Charger fan. All game all he could say was "Why couldn't they have done this last week."
Still, San Diego outplayed Indy. Wouldn't have been a game if the Bolts had converted some red zone FGs into touchdowns, and the Colts really never moved the ball on offense.
Now Indy gets two preseason games to ready and heal up for the post-season. I doubt you see Manning, James, Harrison, Wayne, Dwight Freeney or any other standout for more than a half over the next few weeks.

The Bears looked great last night. I know I've been critical about them making a quarterback change but last night it just seemed right. I don't know how to explain it but if the Bears had started Grossman I would have disagreed with the move but him coming in relief of a struggling Orton provided a huge spark and felt right. I was cold during the first half but it almost felt like it was in the forties during the second half. They were hitting hard last night! Did the crowd sound loud on tv because it seemed a little louder than usual at the game.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

Oh yeah. They were booming while they were chanting the "hey hey goodbye" when Mora, Jr. was doing an imitation of his dad.ScoopBrady wrote:Did the crowd sound loud on tv because it seemed a little louder than usual at the game.
Bears defense looked like they wanted to kill people last night. Couldn't believe some of those hits. ESPN had Alex Brown wired for sound, and at one point he was telling Vick something like "if you move around like that, you're going to make me hurt you." Ron Mexico played like he had run out of penicillin before the game.
Kudos to Lovie Smith for making the QB switch. You could tell on the first Grossman pass that there was a new sheriff in town. Having a couple more games to go will really help Grossman get ready for the playoffs. And I don't see any team in the NFC coming into Soldier Field and beating the Bears in January.
I thought the Bears offense looked much better when Rex came in last night, but then again it would be hard not to. I don't know if I would be overly excited about him yet though, he did only lead them to ten points in the second half, which could have easily been only three points if Atlanta didn't fumble away the interception he threw at the goalline.
Theisman talked about how the Falcons hadn't prepared for Grossman. Not sure if that's really a factor. But Grossman was staring down the WRs sometimes, especially Muhammed, who was upset at Orton for missing a TD opportunity (really wasn't that open).
Grossman still hasn't been established as a quality NFL starter. But it looks like the Bears are going to hitch their fortunes to him so we'll see.
Vick looked like he didn't want to be there, from the pregame on. That kind of weather should help the Bears against teams like the Panthers if they get to host a playoff game. Some of the players were trying to be macho playing just with jerseys. Whatever dudes.

Indy will light it up come postseason. They are far and away the best team in the league.pk500 wrote:You'll hate it even more if this victory over the Colts causes Indy to refocus and then steamroll everyone on a rampage to the Big Bowl in Detroit!bkrich83 wrote:I hate being a Charger fan.

I was one of the ones against Switching QB's also, not for a dislike of Grossman, but for the fact that we have being doing well and it continues to let Orton grow. Lovie did it right though. Switched at halftime and other than the interception at the goalline, Grossman looked really damn good after not playing for so long.Brando70 wrote:Oh yeah. But now to key in on what I wanted to focus on. THE DEFENSE. WOW, they were impressive. They weren't just tackling people, they were plowing through them. The hits in last nights game were amazing. These are the hard hitting bears of old. This game was fun to watch on defense and offense. It has been so long since I've been able to say that, that it feels odd to be able to do so. Our defense really had Vick's number yesterday. It looked like Urlacher was everywhere last night. GREAT GREAT FUN game to watch.
Indy is still vulnerable to the run. They have fast, playmaking LBs and very quick DEs but you wonder if a team couldn't pound it on them, eat up time of possession and keep the ball away from Peyton and co.
Plus yesterday, their safeties apparently didn't play well, allowing Charger WRs to get deep. They may have kept Gates' production down but the WRs made some big plays.
I don't want to buy into the Patriots hype which seems to be starting now but their defense seems to be on a roll. They still have key guys out like Harrison but it sounds like they're not getting gashed like they were earlier in the season. Of course, they've been playing teams like the Jets and Bills during this current win streak. Still, Colts may prefer not to face the Patriots at all.
