Reappreciating ESPN NFL 2K5, thanks to DaveT, NickChew

Post by pk500 »

Boys:

DaveT010 and I had a PM discussion about another topic when I mentioned I probably was going to pick up ESPN NFL 2K5 for the Xbox used for $5 because I missed not having a football game and despite its flaws, I still probably played ESPN NFL 2K5 more than any other football game I've owned.

Dave, being the cool mate that he is, offered to send me his NTSC copy for free from Blighty. That Dave -- quality!

Anyways, I always wanted to try NickChew's 2005 season rosters with global edits to fix some of the issues (defensive backs, pass drops) and also try Nick's sliders. His stuff can be found at gamechewover.com.

Man, ESPN NFL 2K5 is like a new game with Nick's edited rosters and sliders. A ton of fun! I'm having some really fun, challenging games that remind of why I loved this game so much in the first place -- it's a challenging sim of football with enough options to keep me busy, and it's a F*CK of a lot of fun!

Take care,
PK

I'm playing lots of Madden on 360 now, and it's got its charms, but it still can't hold a candle to 2k5 IMO.

Thanks for the links and info Paul. Normally I am not such a dolt, but I have not quite figured out the order and what and when to install to get these updates working from the info over there. Do you mind posting a "Dummies" guide here. I am definitely in the mood for some NFL 2K5. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don:

No problem, man.

Use an Action Replay to transfer this roster from your PC to your Xbox:

http://www.gamechewover.com/ESPNNFL2K5_GCOrosters.zip

This is Nick's latest edited roster. You don't need to use FlyingFinn's Player Editor to make any changes -- Nick already has done them in this roster.

Then use Nick's slider settings here:

http://www.gamechewover.com/sliders.htm

These sliders are designed to work with Nick's edited rosters.

Write with any questions or comments. Have fun!

Take care,
PK

And if you want this years schedule:
1. Use AR to put the roster on the Xbox.
2. load the roster and start a franchise.
3. be sure to turn off preseason games.
4. save the franchise to memory card.
5. take that back to pc and load in the schedule with Finns editor.
6. load back on memory card, back to xbox and enjoy.

These edits are great, I even took it a step more and put all DB,s and LBers aggressiveness to "0". Goodbye stupid DB's.

LS:

Just curious: To what does Nick have the aggro set with his edited rosters?

Thanks,
PK

PK,

Very interesting. I've been thinking about picking 2k5 up for a while now. Just really don't enjoy EA's football games anymore but would like a FB game now that the playoffs are getting close.

I think I will give this little collaboration of efforts a try this week.

Thanks for the post.

Welcome back to "legacy" football :)

For those using Nick's rosters, has anyone found any side effects to the global changes. I feared that fixing one thing (i.e. lowering AGR ratings globaly) would send something else out of whack. That's why I undid his global edits and made my own rosters. if no one is finding any issues, maybe I'll try his out again for some fresh rosters.

I tried Madden again a couple of weeks ago, but ended up back with 2k5 after a couple of nights. I really hope it's true that the 360 version plays more like Fever or 2K, otherwise I'll be updating 2k5 again next year.

I'm enjoying the hell out of it with Nick's rosters and his global edits. The only possible flaw I've found is that the CPU doesn't run as well as maybe it should.

But I haven't tried to address that issue -- if it really is an issue -- with sliders. I don't want to rush to conclusions that the CPU can't run just based on two or three games.
