Does anyone live in a place where the snow doesn't melt?

All winter?? I'm a southern boy so I'm used to seeing snow and then it disappearing in 2 days. I was wondering if anyone lives in a place where the snow is basically on the ground from Thanksgiving to beginning of March or so. Do those places even exist?

Syracuse, N.Y., baby! We average 116 inches of snow per winter and are the snowiest metropolitan area in the Lower 48. Yes, more than Buffalo.

Buffalo gets more media coverage because it gets a handful of big storms. We get one or two big storms and then steady, regular snow the rest of the winter.

We have winters where we don't see the grass from November through March. We had an Election Day storm two or three years ago and didn't see grass again until late March.

There's about 4 or 5 inches on the ground here now, with another 6 coming tomorrow. I don't expect to see grass any time soon, which is GREAT! I despite Green Christmases. In fact, the Christmas season I spent when living in Southern California in 1993 was a big-time bummer due to the lack of snow on the ground.

I love winter, love snow. Love to ski in it, skate in it, play in it, drive in it, sled in it, snowmobile in it. Guess I live in the right place. Winter is my second-favorite season of the year, behind only fall.

The snow in this part of Canada will drop, melt gradually, and drop again. It may get to a certain point where it sticks around all winter but it's usually not until late December/Early January.

Cleveland basically has snow all winter. We had 106 inches last year, 108 the year before. So we get belted quite often. We have about 8 inches on the ground right now with more to come this week.

Once the first really big snow hits in the Chicagoland area it will stick for a long time. It's usually too cold to snow around here though. We do get a lot of snow, don't get me wrong, but a lot of the time it is just too cold to snow. I would rather have more snow than to have a wind chill below 0. There's nothing worse than choking on cold air that is blown into your lungs as you inhale outside.

And to think it gets even colder in Minnesota.

Very cold here in North Dakota. It was -16 degrees here when I left for work (and that is the actual temperature, not the wind chill). This is the type of place where people are told not to get out of their car if it breaks down. It is safer to wait for help to arrive. Last year we had some days which were -30 degrees regular temperature, and -70 with the wind chill!

For those who don't me, I live here to be close to my little boy.

Cleveland's weird when it comes to snow, thanks to lake effect snow in the snow belt, which is most of the eastern suburbs. Alot of times the east side will get at least a foot of snow, while downtown and the west side don't get any.

I don't mind the snow that much, until about March, then it starts to get old.

My dog LOVES IT!!! If we get a big snow overnight, he'll wake me up at like 3 am, just so he can go outside and run around like CRAZY in it. I don't mind getting out of bed because, I gotta admit, seeing my greyhound run through a foot of light fluffy powdery snow is probably one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

What is this thing you call snow? Hell, it's absolutely brutal here right now at night...low 40's and windy. Brrrr.

3 years of Chicago winters was enough for me. I'd rather succumb to the sweltering humid summers of St. Louis than have to experience another chilling winter of Chicago. Not to mention the horrific traffic there as well. Good riddance!

Yeah, snow in Chicago is a godsend that keeps the temps up. Even though it can be a pain in the arse, a nice, constant snow always keeps a slightly warmer feel in the atmosphere.

For the 2003-04 school year, Mrs. Brando was teaching at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI. I think they got 250+ inches of snow that year. It started snowing Oct. 1, and there was still some snow on the ground when she left in May.

Squid:

A couple of shots of my backyard last winter when there was 2-plus feet on the ground. Note the snow on top of the pool slide in the second shot!

Finally, a shot of my oldest son (4 years old) learning to ski last winter on the bunny hill with me chasing him:

I have a few pics of my kids playing on 7-foot snowbanks lining our driveway from two winters ago, but they're on a disc somewhere I have to find. They were awesome shots, though, as the snowbanks looked like Everest and Kilimanjaro behind these 3-foot kids. They dug a great network of tunnels in the banks with the neighbor kids. Their own little Tora Bora.

PK, I can deal with the snow from November to March. What kills me is just when everything seems melted, we always get the one good snowfall in the beginning of April that seems to drag out winter for another month.

Spent about 15 hours this fall blowing and hauling leaves. The yard should be a pristine, green field of weeds in the spring with no bare spots.

Damn, that photo reminds me that I've lost a bit more hair in the last 13 months!

You got that right, Rick! Or what about the Mother's Day snowstorm that seems to come about every 10 or 15 years? Those suck like a Hoover.

I love snow, but there are limits to that love. It's not quite unconditional.

Natural gas. Gas-forced hot air. We keep the thermostat at 62, so we've never paid out the nose anyways. It's amazing what a sweatshirt and slippers can do to keep you warm and cut back on the heat bills.

I would say it's pretty hard to convince the wifey to get nekid when her nipples could get frostbitten though.
