A bit off-topic, but here's a picture for the ages if you're a longtime Oilers' fan like me:

Image

Puts a tear in my eye to see that shot. And to think those great 80s teams also had Coffey, Fuhr, Anderson, Kurri, Tikkanen and more. What an incredible collection of talent.

Ah, the "glory years." But I still dig this year's team, too!

Take care,
PK

Boy did those 3 guys toy with the Canucks in the 80's. Must a recent pic.

It's got to rank right at the top along with the J. Spezza goal early this year against Montreal. What moves this guy has, so far he overshadowed Ovechkin tonight, all PITT's goal were beauties, except a softy let in by O. Kolzig.

Crosby's goal was filthy tonight, but Spezza's move last month was from a different planet.

I don't know what was more impressive about Crosby's goal -- the move or the fact he fought through the stick checks of both Caps D men.

By far it was Crosby's best game yet for the Pens. He was dominant, quick and determined. What about that spinorama pass on Ziggy's goal? Wow!

Todd Marchant finally gets claimed by the Ducks.

Canucks roll on, baby.

Enhancing drugs catching up to Hockey? Well, at least that's what Dick Pound of the world anti-doping policy told the London free press saying that as many as 1/3 of the NHLPA are under some kind of drug help.

Who knows how many, if any (sure there has to be some, you'd think) are using... but where does Pound get off picking out the number "1/3" with apparently NO evidence?

If this is true, and I have my doubts, take a look at the New York Rangers' roster for my first suspect:

#66 Jaromir Jagr 6-2, 234

I know Jagr's lower-body strength is legendary. But 234? I don't ever remember him being that heavy during his career. I always thought he was in the 215-220 range.

Maybe D. Pound is still looking for some recognition after he lost his push to become the head of the IOC, which ahem, is so impeccable with its works ethics. I am sure there's the odd guy like most sports but like B. Morrison of the Canucks was saying: "I wish he could come in here and see us with our shirts off".

For Pound to be making such statement, he's got to be including the sudafeds, nasal sprays, protein shakes and other nutritional drinks including Red Bull.

At this point his statement is ludicrous to say the least, I wonder what's in his agenda?

Someone needs to remind DICK Pound that the NHL made sweeping rules changes for this season, and that just might be the reason scoring is up, not the juice.

This isn't like baseball, where light-hitting shortstops starting hitting 30 homers per year under the same rules that have existed for decades.

And if it didn't go in, Don Cherry would have exploded on Malik on next week's "Coach's Corner."

He still might! :)

Cherry erupted on DICK Pound this week. Good stuff.

The funny thing is that players of the caliber of Lemieux, Spezza, Crosby, or Sakic are expexted to do things like that, but a 6.5 tall, steady D man who's forte is to cover his zone while the other D man goes on the odd rush is just amaizing.

The game of choice, indeed -- the choice of all local rubbish companies!

The Penguins finally wised up and are going to go with Fleury in goal tonight as he was recalled and Thibault was put on waivers.

Well, management had to finally decide. A Hockey decision or an economical one? With Bonus up to 3 million in his contract they wanted to bring Fleury slowly, but look at the save% of Thibault and after a quarter of the season gone, they had to start making some decisions. With the new economics of the NHL, a few other lesser names were also put on waivers.

The Pens had no choice. Fleury was their best goaltender in the preseason, and was lights out in the AHL.
