Ok, I've got to pull a PK on this one and admit I was wrong. Despite the graphics, robot voices, and awkward control I found myself drawn back to it enough to pop it back in the Xbox. And then I proceeded to waste away three hours playing the single missions. I'm beginning to get used to all the in-game command and weapon menus and I've gotten better at distinguishing enemies from bushes.

I think what finally put me over the edge was playing the single mission "Bomberman" where I was a sniper in charge of Bravo and Charlie. My first objective was to take out a convoy which I failed at several times. With three satchel charges at my disposal I was able to take out the first vehicle but one of the others behind it would always eliminate me. The I realized I could place all 3 satchels at the same time. By placing the satchels about 2-3 vehicle lenghts apart on the road I was able to take out 3 armored vehicles simultaneously. That was awesome to behold from up on the ridge. I then called in Bravo to help mop up the convoy and then went around to the other side of the hill to act as sniper while bravo advanced on the town. I called in Charlie to advance on the town from the other side and after about a fifteen minute firefight we had eliminated all enemies. What a rush!

I'm still bothered by the graphics and control but can get past it just for the excitement and strategy of some of the missions I have opened up in single mission mode. Unfortunately I still haven't got past the "stuck in the forest" mission in campaign but with the experience I've gained in the single missions I think I'll be able to make it.

Oh yeah, I loved the eighties suspense music that plays in the first single mission where you have to steal the jeep. It really created a great mood for that mission.

Now I just have to figure out whether I'm trading Star Wars: Battlefront or a combination of Ghost Recon: Summit Strike & Jade Empire to pick it up.

Four things i learned from last night:

1) nothing like flying the smaller chopper upside down

2) nothing like starting a mission, only to see "pk500 dead" seconds into the mission...

3) Flock of Seagulls was sooooo 80's.. (hehe)

4) crawling around in the desert sucks...

Guys, sorry I missed you all last night. We had a minor medical emergency that kept me away. I hope to be on tonight working on a mission, so I'll leave some friends slots open in case anyone wants to hop in. I'll keep an eye out for you guys too.

Glad to see you guys at least give it a fair chance! I know that it can be an aquired taste.

..............ummm, can I say something sheepishly here? Me too. PK, remember when you said that you went to bed thinking about the missions in OF and woke up thinking about the missions in OF? Well, I, um...I did the same thing. When I got up this morning, even when posting that it wasn't for me, I was thinking of riding in a Black Hawk, scanning the ground for red smoke, being nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs waiting for the downed pilot to get in the chopper, finding out that a hard landing by piggy messed up the bird, but was flyable, knowing that he was fighting the thing just to get it back to our base, having him land the bird safely, watching the pilot get out, and everyone slapping virtual high fives over the insane RUSH that provided...

Long story short: To quote Arthur Fonzerelli (or PK, for that matter)...

'I was wr-r-r-r-r..."

"I was W-R-R-R-R..."

Richie: "You were wrong?"

Fonz: " Yeah, that's it..."

See you all next poker night...

Oh, and Jimmy....let's leave the flying to piggy from now on, shall we?

Teal, Mix:

No shame in admitting you had the wrong first impression about Flashpoint. If this is the first game you've misjudged, then you're only 217 behind me! :)

Seriously, glad you cats are on board. This game is truly the onion of first-person console shooters -- just so many damn layers to peel. But it doesn't make you cry like an onion -- that is unless you weep tears of laughter after I've crashed a Cessna on takeoff or Jimmy has run me over three times with a Bradley!

Let's shoot again soon, boys! You cats need to jump into a game with Gurantsu or Zeppo. They both have some really cool custom missions built.

And another good thing about Flashpoint is that I'd guess about 90 percent of the people you run across in random games are really cool, really competent but friendly military FPS gamers. Twitch shooters are abandoning this game very quickly, which is a damn good thing.

P.S. to Teal: Great description of the tension Flashpoint provides, and I love the classic "Happy Days" reference! :)

Take care,
PK

guys, I equate this game with playing actual sports like baseball or golf.

In golf, I play for that huge drive....even if I only get 1 in 18 holes, it is worth the round.

In baseball, I play to have that 1 sweet hit....the one that keeps me coming back for more.

In OPF, we WILL have some dud missions, but I play for that 1 that provides the HUGE rush.

Thanks to Gurantsu and Zeppo for thier work providing the rush with their excellent missions.

some great maps were played last night.. very tough especially with the "seize the base".. too bad i really didn't pay a little more attention to the mission where we had to capture the hill & the A/P (cause i had a little four legged friend "suprise" me at the time - funny, he didnt look anything like Mickey though).. i still cant get the pilot to get into the truck- i dont know if that's because he was too injured (had a little clash with a blackhawk).. but had fun again last night...

"Seize the Base" was b*tchin! Pilot Down didn't have the same vibe as it did Friday night, for some reason, but still was fun as hell.

I'll tell you mission from Friday night still consumes me, and I want to finish it co-op on XBL with you cats: Oil City. That mission was a royal b*tch but so much fun!

Take care,
PK

I really need to join you guys one night. I've been seeing Teal playing this the past few nights and keep telling myself that I need to go join him, but America's Army has been taking most of my time.

I was creating a new mission last night, this time with some tanks for us to play with. Still needs a bit of tweaking, it's not quite evil enough yet. I'm slowly adding more vehicles and stuff to it, I want to have a full battle going on. Now if I can just keep my A-10's from constantly gettng pasted by the shilkas...

I may be on for a bit tonight, at least until I leave to go pick up my 360. I'll leave the game open to friends as I work on it.

You'll see me in America's Army more now, Wrek. Sorry fellas, but I'm deciding to bow out of Flashpoint. True, I have had a change of heart about this game, but now the problem is one of gluttony. I just have too many games, and none of them are getting focus from me. Flashpoint is just one other, and I'm having alot of fun with it online at times, and being bored at other times, and just plain wondering when I'm going to play Brothers in Arms, America's Army, Battlefield 2, Battlefront 2, Sniper Elite, and Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory. I just don't have the time I used to have, and something's gotta give. So it will be Flashpoint.

I'll rent it from time to time to play with you guys, but I really don't have any interest in it offline at all.

That being said, I think you all would dig America's Army. Kind of has that first Ghost Recon feel to it, especially on Live. There's a map going through a hay field, having to take a farm house(sound familiar?) that I love. You should give it a rent and see.

But I'm returning Flashpoint, and sticking with the overabundance I already have...
