I know that no lead is safe in the new NHL, but it's really true for the Pens. They are needlessly careless and constantly turn the puck over late in games.
If anyone forgot, The puck drops tonight!

The retirement of Dickie Moore's and Yvon Cournoyer's No. 12 tonight in Montreal was stirring. The Canadiens are a top-notch organization, love them or hate them. That ceremony was pure class.
Take care,

Yeah, I saw the ceremony too, 1st class treatment, it was a great game to watch too, back & forward, tough one to lose though for Montreal.pk500 wrote:The retirement of Dickie Moore's and Yvon Cournoyer's No. 12 tonight in Montreal was stirring. Can anyone stop Ottawa? Two losses only?
What a goal by Knuble to win the game last night against Florida with 3 seconds left. I almost felt sorry for the Panthers, except they should have been down 5-4 with four minutes left, but the ref decided to blow his whistle ridiculously early with the puck nowhere close to being covered by the goalie.
That ref needs to miss a few games, and the associated wages as punishment. That's what they do to bad referees in some other sports like rugby league.

Yes, terrible stoppage by the refs. Fortunate for us, it didn't cost us any points in the standings. I'd also like to add that Jeff Carter has officially arrived.Feanor wrote:What a goal by Knuble to win the game last night against Florida with 3 seconds left. Hell yes! Bring on the F'n Lightning! Gags leads the league in goals! You think Forsberg has anything to do with that?Sully wrote:Yes, terrible stoppage by the refs. After 3 straight losses, Canucks finally played with a bit more sense of urgency as their conference is getting tighter with Calgary playing great as well as Colorado. Man, that's got to be the toughest division. Not many points separate the Canucks & Minny.
4-1 win against the #1 team DET and more importantly, Bertuzzi seems to be back. The big guy scored a hat-trick, two of them, high reel goals, he was dominant again.

Nice win for the Oil. All four lines and all three sets of D men were on it from the drop of the puck. Some of the best intensity I've seen from the team all season.
Nice to see Morrison win in his NHL debut in goal.
Not sure if anyone saw highlights of the game, but the dipsy-doodle move that Hemsky made for the No. 1 assist on Torres' goal was outstanding. In the same category as the stuff you see from Spezza and Crosby.
Carolina-Ottawa tonight. A real test of legitimacy for the 'Canes, especially coming off that pasting by Atlanta. Should be a dandy. I'm looking forward to it.

THAT was amazing. Amazing in the number of dekes he did, but also he managed to pull the puck across the crease to Raffi.pk500 wrote:

In terms of sheer stick wizardry, I'll put Hemsky up against damn near anyone in the NHL. The kid can just do amazing things.
But I question his confidence at times. He came into the NHL with the Oil having just turned 19, probably too young, and was beaten up by the physical nature of the pro game. Now that the game has opened up, he's been able to show his skills and has 17 points in 20 games.
I really think Hemsky can become a consistent point-per-night scorer in this league as his confidence grows and he gets more experience. Nights like last night certainly help.
Take care,

Holy sh*t -- Nash could still score 40 this season with Fedorov as his center even though he's out for another month.Sully wrote:Sergei Fedorov shipped to Columbus!![]()
I'll post a link when I can find one.
Man, this is a borderline steal for Columbus. Fedorov turns 36 this season and coming off a groin injury, but he's still a world-class player when healthy and motivated. And all Columbus had to give up was a 32-year-old mucker in Tyler Wright, a rookie defenseman in Beauchemin and a fifth-rounder in 2006.
Good move by MacLean, considering Columbus is last in the NHL in scoring.
Clearly a salary dump by Anaheim. More "capology" for the new NHL, and that's a good thing since talent is being distributed around the league!

Man, I know everyone is big on Cam Ward as a goalie in Carolina, but I think Martin Gerber might be the most underrated netminder in the NHL. Canes beat Ottawa last night for the second time this season, and Gerber stood on his head both times. Very entertaining game last night, by the way.
The Sens' Achilles heel remains the power play -- 1-for-23 in its last few games. And two of Ottawa's three losses this season have come against Carolina.
Something to remember once we get deep into the playoffs next spring ...

I agree on MacLean. Last year, during the NHL lockout, MacLean and then-assistant GM Kevin Dineen spent a lot of time at Syracuse Crunch games, watching prospects.
Between periods, you'd always see MacLean and Dineen just hanging out in the corridors, more than willing to talk with the public if approached. They didn't retreat to the team office or a conference room -- hell, it's the 55-year-old Onondaga County War Memorial, there are no suites or skyboxes! -- to talk shop.
My brother and I talked with MacLean and Dineen for a few minutes between periods one night. They both were very nice guys.
Take care,
