OT: NBA 2005-2006 Season Discussion

It was a pretty poor dialog between Cuban and Simmons. Cuban didn't seem to get the point of the whole exercise until he beat his argument about salaries into the group. The comparison to SportCenter anchors was weaker than "The Benefactor".

I still like Cuban and think he's great for the game but the article was hardly worth reading.

Agreed, SF. That was a completely circular exchange -- Simmons said that Cuban was acting more like an owner than a fan on the issue, and Cuban spent about 5000 words reinforcing that point.

Tough break for the Warriors last night, was surprised that no foul was called on that last shot.

Home court advantage. The refs just didn't want to have to endure a third straight Bulls OT game.

That was a tough lost by the Warriors last nite, but I make no excuses...Warriors shot like crap and still had a chance at the end, which is all I can ask for on the 2nd game of a back-to-back. I give the Bulls a ton of credit, too...they were down and turning the ball over like crazy, but scrapped back like the playoff team they are (and hit their free throws, as well).

I haven't forgotten where I've been. A 2-1 Eastern road swing is a great result for GSW. No complaints, no complaints at all.

Actually, the Pacific team which may be on the upswing are the Clippers, who've signed Cassell and Mobley while Livingston develops (may not be that far off).

Warriors have two big men out and they're not getting consistent production from the front court. Boy that contract to Dunleavy looks real good now.

I'm still too optimistic about the season's prospects to worry about the Clippers. I'm a big Cassell fan but Sam will be injured or p1ssed off at the organization by midseason. They have no depth and Chris Kaman haircut should be in violation of the new dress code.

I agree w/ you on the Dun deal though. It's not as indefensible as Foyle's or Fisher's contract; Mullin didn't way overpay. But if it means Pietrus will play the prime of his career somewhere else, I don't like the tradeoff. Dunleavy does enough things well to have a long career in the league but I think he's about as good as he's going to get. Pietrus could fail to develop further but his upside is much higher than Dun's IMHO.

Two slow, soft forwards who are arguably overpaid. Dunleavy got what those picked around him in the draft got. But his role could have been filled with a Kyle Korver type, who will probably hit open jumpers more consistently.

Murphy has unusual range for a 4 (that's because he's a converted 3) but he's not any threat inside the paint nor can he defend.

Mullin better dump some of these contracts or else, at best they are mid to high 40s win team for the next few years.

Our only hope is that Diogu's freakishly long arms makes him play 6-10 rather than his sub 6-6 height.

Dun got a contract comparable to Bobby Simmons & Tayshaun Prince. I'd rather have either one of them, particularly on D. I think Dun has a better all-around game than Korver, although not at twice the price.

Dunleavy is what he is. A decent player with good versatility and ball skills. I wish he was a better shooter; so does he. There should be a statute of limitations about labelling a guy based on draft position. Dun was a #3 pick but other guys in the lottery (Jay Williams, Skita, Wagner) have been much, much worse. St. Jean would still have a job if he picked Stoudamire, but you can't blame Dun for that one.

I figure Mullin is counting on either (a) the cap going up (b) another round of the Allen Houston rule or (c) replacing Isiah as GM of the Knicks. The Warriors look to be spending most of Hillary Clinton's first term severely cap bound.

Man, Andre Iguodala is getting good fast. He's already one of the league's best defenders, which he demonstrated by totally shutting down Kobe last night (7-27). He's only averaging 11.7 per game, but is shooting 67% to go along with his 7 boards, 3 assists, and 2 steals per game.

The Sixers are a fun team to watch and turned it around a bit after a rotten start. I don't know how a team can lose to Charlotte by 17 at home and then fly to Indiana and win in what was their 4th game in five nights. That kicked off a nice 3 game winning streak. It will be nice to have Dalembert back.

Thought about picking up Charlie Villanueva for my fantasy league at the beginning of the season. He'd been the Raptors' leading scorer in preseason and had shown range on his shot, shooting 3s.

He's had a couple of big games back to back now.

People were wondering if he left too early.

Gana had a solid game defensively. But on offense, he's a worthy successor to Shawn Bradley.

Dampier is a better player than he showed last night, but not by much. You won't find a bigger Nellie fan than me, but poor judgement on big men characterized the latter part of his coaching career.

I agree. Over the past few years I have lost some interest in the NBA but this Sixers team has me a bit excited again. Webber looks healthy (and he's showing it), AI is AI, Iggy is definately a force. Did you guys see Kobe's reaction to a reporter asking about how "Andre shut him down" in the Lakers game? He said, smugly I might add, "no one can guard me one on one...no one." Whatever, Iggy just did

The FA's Billy King picked up are doing well also. Nailon is giving good minutes and points off the bench and Hunter is a very active center. His shotblocking reminds me of Theo Ratliffe (man those were the days). He is only 23 also. Doing a great job starting in Dalember's place. When Dalember gets back things will really look good. Just think if Willie Green wouldn't have blown out his knee! He is instant offense off the bench. Im just glad Webber is producing. Mo Cheeks is a great guy so I'm pulling for him to succeed. There is no doubt the city loves him. Nice win against the Raptors last night.

Funny how Joe Johnson shot 47% from three last year...and now, without Nash, he's at 29%. Just goes to show that if a guy has a wide open three, it's a hellova lot easier to hit it.

Joe has been pretty impressive though...at least when they moved him to SG/SF. But then again, the Hawks are still winless...so I guess that's what he deserves for taking the money.

So far one of the most amazing performances for me has been by Tony Parker who normally I'm not that big a fan of. Don't know what he did in the off-season but whatever it was it's working.

He's averaging 21.6 a game. (Team Leading scorer btw) and he's shooting a ridiculous 55% which is absurb for a player his height who really doesn't have a consistent outside shot.

Dwade is also putting up some nasty numbers at nearly 25-8-8.

I agree...TP has been amazing. Another guy that has exceeding expectations to me...Chris Paul. I picked him in a fantasy draft as a "project" and he hasn't disappointed. Never thought he'd be able to do as well as he has...

Man, what a show the Cavs and Sixers put on Saturday night. Anybody see it? Very entertaining game. Big road win for the Cavs!

BTW, why does Iverson wear that sleeve on his one arm? I was at this party/fundraiser-thing watching the game, and nobody seemed to know. Somebody said the same reason Michael Jackson wears one glove, somebody else said it's covering up a tatoo the NBA disapproves of, others said it's for medical/physical reasons.

I know it's probably a stupid question, you'll have to forgive me, it's just that there's alot of new NBA fans around here, myself included.

I caught the 4th quarter. James was unstoppable. Very stupid foul by Iggy near the end for the 3 point play. It was very entertaining and high scoring that is for sure.

I would guess Iverson wears the sleeve for medical reasons, but that's a good question.
