New Madden 360 Gameplay videos

Post by tsunami »

The last 4 are actual gameplay videos. I don't know...may have a nice shiny wrapper on it but it still looks like Madden to me. And a poorly animated one at that (compared to current gen).

Gee a Madden video looking like Madden. Such shocking commentary that will create an uproar amongst the video game community.

So was this already posted in the handy dandy Madden Video thread just a few down from this one?

Oh no!! The thread police!! Run! Run!

My, the thread police have a lot of time on their hands. Perhaps our DSP tax dollars could be spent more wisely.

Can't put a price tag or ever spend enough of that tax money on teaching common sense. That much is for sure.

Operation sports had about a 14 page thread ripping the hell out of these videos. People were so upset (reasonably so IMHO) b/c EA went around proclaiming an all new engine built from the ground up, but it is obvious that the game engine is the same as it ever was (mario running, suction blocking, push tackling, no gang tackling, and no new animations) and it many ways worse with choppier animations and an apparently bad running game.

Here are some highlights of the comments:

Check out the first Packers video, on the very first play. Hand-off goes to Green, who proceeds to run into the back of one of his blockers, and he just keeps running in place for a couple of seconds while his legs keep on churning. Classic Mario Running at its finest (or worst).

The same "sack on play-action because of no blocking" issue seems to remain in the game, and the complete lack of any sensible blocking logic for the run game. For proof look at video 6, the one with the Steelers and Bengals, fast forward it to about 3:35 notice how number 66 (the left guard) and the Fullback (on the lefthand side of the play) COMPLETLEY MISS THEIR BLOCKS. All 66 had to do was block the LB and it would leave "Fast Willie" Parker one-on-one with a saftey, but he instead goes after the saftey while the FB goes after the LB and they both MISS. This is the kind of stuff that happened all of the time in current-gen Madden, and is rearing it's ugly head again

These films confirm the bad feeeling I had about the game in the past few months.

1. Same engine
2. Same gameplay
3. Removeing features from the game.

It seems from these video's that you can't run. It seems you sort of hit the hole inside and are immediately tackled. Or even worse, it seems Ahman Green will get the draw or toss, and literally has NO blockers out there to help him. He's immediately tackled there, too

The "I touch you, you fall" tackles look even more awkward because the graphics look so much better. Where's the freaking emotion? Even the cutscene scripted emotion looks off.

Where is the momentum? Looks like players are cutting on a dime. The QB drop backs and throwing animations are pretty crappy

I was wowed when I saw Gameday for the PS. IMO, that was the FIRST game since the ol NES/Atari days to have the complete package. Graphics, revolutionary gameplay. NFL2K1 was the second. Madden 2003 was the third. NFL2K5 was the last. To be honest, I got more wow from NFL2K4 to 2K5 than Madden 2006 on XBOX to Madden on the 360.

As long as the Madden apologists keep working so hard to try and invalidate every single negative opinion anyone has on the game, EA has very little to worry about. That's their core demographic: "People who will buy any product and support any decision or move they make and aggressively defend it until their dying breaths." You have a core like that, you're not worried about too much. You can afford to do somehitn like remove ALL YOUR FEATURES and still sell copies. That's unreal.

P.S. Just an after thought: Aside from the roster update label, one also should remember that EA said you couldn't do 2 full football teams with polygon players until the competition came along and showed that you could; and the same could be said about EA's attitude toward online gaming, back when VC was doing it over a 56k modem on the dreamcast. Just because EA says it aint so, doesn't mean its a fact.

How about maybe the cpu botches a snap on a field goal or punt every now and then? How about the ability to actually block a kick without doing some kind of speed rush glitch? How about making it where a guy has to do more than bump into a guy to tackle him? I can't tell you how many times I've ran the ball only to run into the back of a defender engaged in a block and have him tackle me without even turning to face me?

Madden's poor player interaction is the reason you have Mario running, it's the reason you have poor Bump and Run, poor OL/DL interaction, etc. When players run into each other, there should be a reaction. That reaction shouldn't be running in place.

Just my opinion but I think madden on 360 is like the beta version of what they will eventually put out when ps3 comes around.

I don't know, Stauser in recent interviews has been saying various sized groups of developers have been working on this new engine for up to 2 years.

They were mapping out targets a long time ago, based on what kind of performance they assumed the new consoles would have.

But they supposedly got some of these final developers kit very late, like only a couple of months before ship. So maybe at least they can refine things for the future.

The episode where Homer made a website and when it got popular Bill Gates stormed in and stole it.

You're right, of course. It's also the beta version of every future Madden to be released for either platform during the next five years, right up until that exclusive agreement with the NFL expires.

Really, not one new animation in any of the videos? That really boggels my mind.

The gameplay still looks jerky to me. I do think the overall look is good, and the presentation is nice, but it's not moving nearly as fluidly as I thought it would.

Ahhhhhhhh...you obviously don't do any video editing in your spare time. When someone makes a video and compresses it, what do you think happens to said video? It takes frames out and limits the sound quality...so you're not getting a true representation of the actual video.

Not to mention, you're watching the video on your oh so powerful 1024x768 monitor over an internet connection. If you're streaming the video, forget about it, it's 10x worse than that. There just is no way to pull in an exact video of something in motion...it just doesn't happen that often over the internet without ridiculously large files.

Yes, DB, but this isn't the first time I've ever watched a gaming video over the Internet. Compared to other 360 videos I've seen, the in-game footage looks choppy. I am sure that when running in 720p, the game looks nice, I am just concerned that in motion it will not look smooth. And I've had that reaction to every Madden 360 video I've seen, although the later videos have (not surprisingly) shown smoother animations.

If I do get a 360 this year, I will probably hold off on Madden. I'd rather get NBA 2k6 and give EA a year to put back all the crap they took out :D

looks like IGN must have gotten in trouble for given madden 06 a sub 9.0 score this year. Looks like they are going to make up for it with their review of madden 360!
