Again, I'm not buying an Xbox 360 until our rental property is sold, but your impressions make it sound like the unit sure will be worth the wait.
Know anyone who wants to buy a nice three-bedroom house in a family-oriented city neighborhood in Binghamton, N.Y.?
Take care,

Yeah, that pretty much describes it. That's one of the reasons why I've lived near Syracuse for most of my life, including the last 11 years.

Badgun, thanks for the very detailed impressions. I was already in the "I'll probably get around to getting one" camp, now I definitely am on board. Need to tell the wife to make sure Santa has it under the tree.
I was wondering if you could write your 10 reasons to buy a 360, and make each one of those reasons its own thread
Just got back from Wal-Mart myself. All I can say is, does anyone have a neck brace???
Worst display setup ever! The way the thing is rigged up really took a lot of the enjoyment out of it. And that display was WAY too close to be able to appreciate the graphics. However, I could tell that the system will be as good as I had hoped and expected. I was very pleasently surprised by COD 2.
My initial assesment is that the 360 games really look and feel like PC games played on the most powerful systems availible with the grapical settings maxed out. Which it not a bad thing at all.

Well, no dice on seeing the kiosk. However, I did payoff (100%) my XBOX360 preorder The EB rep told me of their midnight madness release. Am I dork enough to go on Monday at Midnight? Probably

If my Gamestop has one I'll probably be there. I went to EB at midnight for Madden so I already know I'm dork enough.

I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

The only midnight madness event I ever went to was when the Dreamcast was launched. It was pretty fun actually. Kinda like a support group meeting

Guess I shouldn't get my hopes up then...if that's all we are going to see.

Well certainly someone has to be realistic...you guys are all jumping around sucking the Xbox Cock. I mean really...
But anyway...if people are saying it looks like a high end pc, then why would I be wowed? I can do that already...and I have been able to do that for the past few years while I continue to try to stay on top of the upper end of the PC hardware race.

Understood, however, the point is that consoles have been light years behind the high end PC's graphics forever and now they're not. Plus, this is just first gen titles we are talking about. If I can get COD2 to look and play every bit as good as the PC version maxed out on the highest settings but on my 55" HiDef TV with NO memory and video card issues, patches, ect...then I will be impressed/happy with the 360.
I have no doubt that they will surpass PC graphics in the next couple generations as well. Plus, with PC games dwindling down to almost non-existant, you should be welcoming this, not dissing it.
I made it to my local Walmart and lady luck was shining on me as there was a 360 Kiosk waiting for me to take the new console for a test drive.
I will admit that my expectations for the next generation technologies may be a bit higher than most. That being said here are my short, initial impressions.
Graphically COD did not really impress me as much as I thought a next gen title would. What did impress me was the amount of activiity that was visible on the screen. Fighter planes, trucks, troops and all the shooting and explosions made for a pretty intense environment. As mentioned previously, the game play felt very familiar.
I then moved on to check out the 2K sports demos. Personally I was pretty disappointed with what I saw. In looking at the NBA 2k6 game, a part of me couldn't help but think that the developers were putting a lot of effort into lighting and reflections, and could have put more effort into player models and animations. Did it look good? yea... Did it blow me away? far from it. Personally, I was hoping that the new techinologies would give us more life like visuals, and I'm sure with time it will.
I was extremely disappointed with the NHL 2K6 demo and I can only hope that the demo was from an old build. The stadium and 3d crowds looked very nice, but the on ice visuals in the demo failed to impress me at all. Colors were once again too "hot" and the game just looked like an average hockey game and took no strides forward to making the game look more life like.
Thankfully my 360 visit took a turn for the better when I found the demo for Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfare. If the final version of this game looks anything like the demo, we are all in for a treat. I've never seen such accurate player models or animiations in a title of this genre. This demo rocked.
Other demo's that impressed me were Top Spin 2 and PGR3.
Thanks Badgun i went to the Walmart in Secaucus NJ today and they didn't have it(they were supposed to have it on Friday)Well i guess i will try again on Monday.Badgun you got me so pumped to check this out i hope they have it on Monday

First of all, where did I diss it? I simply said that I probably won't be as wowed as some of you other guys are...especially the ones who don't play computer games on high end systems.
The fact that consoles will surpass PC games isn't surprising...but I don't think it's going to be as wide of a margain as you think. There are still PLENTY of games coming out on the PC. In fact, the games that you guys love so much on the consoles are 10x better on the PC, which is why I stick to shooters and racing games on the PC rather than the consoles. That will likely never change for me.
The Xbox 360 will probably surpass the PC for about a year...then the PC will catch up and surpass it. The same thing happens every generation...nothing will change.

Amen to that! First Person Shooters, Racing Sims, Flight Sims, RPG's (particularly massively multiplayer online games), and RTS are all done better on the PC. Even if the graphics on the next gen systems temporarily outshine the PC, it is doubtful that the additional extended gameplay that is available for PC games through mods, utilities, add-ons, etc. will be available for next gen systems. Even though sports are definitely down on the PC, I think it could be argued that with the available patches and add-ons, the best and most accurate versions of soccer, baseball, and golf all are on the PC. Don't know what is available for Madden for the PC, but it could very well be up there as well. Problem is you just don't get the multiplayer base that you would on the consoles. Not to mention, besides the games I have imported this year, I have not paid over $30 for a PC game. The number of PC games released is down, but it is far from non-existant.
