Congrats to the Astro fans here. The better team won. Good luck against the White Sox. American League baseball sucks worse than short fences.

I hope the Astros take them in four.

Yeah... you keep telling yourself that.

Looks like in a couple of innings, Pujols HR will just be remembered for posponing the Cards elimination for another 48hrs.

It didn't win a series nor start a series turnaround. So, I'll be just another playoff highlight, nothing more, nothing less.
Funny, after the game, the first thing Biggio talked about was Pujols' home run.

Biggio is a class act, as are the rest of the Astros. They were the better team. Good luck to the Astros.

I do love the fact the Astros will have Beltran money to spend this offseason. Either a 1st baseman if Bagwell can't return, or an outfielder if he can.
I heard one of the Houston sportscasters saying after the game that Bagwell bombed 10 straight out of the park in BP tonight. He is finally getting his strength in his shoulder back and it would be great to see him DH this series and get an opportunity to contribute.

I never rooted for the Cubs, I just rooted against the Cards. Everyone was against the cards after you and a few other obnoxious card fans posted here, or should I remind you mr.102 wins?

And thats 2005 NL CHAMPION ASTRO FAN to you mister!

Just heard that. I didn't think that rocking son of a b*tch would ever leave Atlanta. Was this something that was coming, or was it a shock to you as well?

That would certainly be great if he can contribute as a DH. In the long term, I just wonder if he'll be able to throw by spring training.

Anyway, I'm glad they have several days before game 1. I want to soak this up for a while first. NL Champs. Never thought I'd see the day.

Oswalt is the Astros' best big game pitcher. Petitite and Clemens have both been average at best in the playoffs over their careers, but Oswalt seems to perform well in every big game he pitches (last year's playoffs, wild card clincher, this year's playoffs).

Game 5 reminded me of when the Rockets blew a 20-point lead against the Suns in the playoffs and earned the name "Choke City". Then they won the next 3 and changed that to "Clutch City" (and ended up winning the championship).

Too bad the Oilers never got that chance after blowing that 35-3 lead against the Bills in the playoffs.

Anyway, I think the Cardinals will win the division again next year, Clemens will retire, Taveras will be the next Gerald Young/Eric Yielding, Bagwell won't be able to throw and will either DH for the Rangers or retire (Berkman will move to 1B for good), Rodriguez will put up better numbers than Walker did, Pujols will dominate again, Edmonds will bounce back, Rolen will be back, Ensberg's numbers will come back to earth, Biggio will join Ausmus, Everett, Lane, and Burke in the .250 club, etc.

I thought it was pretty messed up that they ran the "Astros vs. White Sox - 8:05 PM Saturday" banner with 2 outs in the 9th.

Mazzone is best friends with the Oriole manager so I'm sure that had something to do with it. He broke off talks with the Yanks earlier in the day so I knew something was up...but he's been on a one year contract every year with the Braves (that's what they do with ALL of their coaches) so I didn't think there was a chance in hell he'd leave. But I guess he wanted a change of scenery. It'll be interesting to see if Bobby Cox had something to do with his success...if he can turn that Oriole staff around then he truely is the master.

You weren't the only one who caught that....and I was tired of him droning on and on about past failures, etc. Just shut the hell up and let us WATCH the game.

Congrats to the Astros!! Seeing Biggio in near tears after the victory had hair standing up on my arms.. I'm truly happy for him and you Astros fans.

Should be a good series vs the Chisox and I'll watch every game... that's the good thing about it - no Red Sox and no Yankees!

When you have passion for your team, bickering can be fun... and hey, Lane's HR was long enough for me. :)

Congrats to the Astros and their fans....minus HouOilers.

Hope it's a memorable series that goes all seven games.

Ironically, I was reading Mens Health this morning before work, and there was a article on Pujols workout regime. The magazine was from back in May I believe. It was a Q & A, and one of the questions asked him who he looks up to in terms of work ethic and professionalism. He said he admires players like Biggio and Bagwell the most.

May the best team win.

Like I said earlier, the Cardinals are one of the classiest and professional teams/management in ANY professional sports league. They had my respect even after last year's NLCS victory and now they have solidified my feelings toward them and their fans. I have to admit that I was touched by Biggio and Bagwell's response to finally getting off that list of players who have played the longest without going to a World Series. But I was equally touched to read that the St. Louis fans gave the Astros a standing ovation while the Astros were celebrating on the field. Class and dignity personified....

Yeah, it's all in fun. Cardinals fans are great.

I saw that Jim Tracy, the new Pirates' manager, pretty much wants to copy the Cardinals' blueprint. Imitation is the finest form of flattery.

You're forgetting what the Astros can do in the offseason. They have money to spend. And Clemens has already hinted about another season. And I have no idea why you think Ensberg will "come back to Earth." He hit 25 two years ago, and was playing hurt a good part of last year.

Do you really think Clemens comes back if he wins a World Series? That would be the perfect way for him to go out.

It's like Schilling bringing the Sox their World Series...he's going to be a hero to Sox fans for the rest of his life. He'll never have to buy a beer in a bar again. Same thing will hold true if Clemens wins a game or two in the World Series and brings the city of Houston their first World Series title.

Could not agree more. Since his Mom died, I have a feeling this was his last season regardless of the outcome. He made the following statement the other day in the Houston Chronicle:
Roger Clemens wrote:When you have to ask your younger players to go fill up a couple of garbage bags with ice so you can ice down both hamstrings after a game, you know that you are close to being finished in this game....
That may not be word for word, but that was the essence of his statement. I think he will leave everyting he has left on the field in this World Series. If Houston somehow manages to win it, then I don't think there is 99.99% of a question as to what he will do....

Ensberg was hit in the hand by a pitch about 3-4 weeks ago and has not been the same since. Last night he hit the ball as well as he has in some time, so he may be getting somewhat back to the form of earlier this year. I think the Astros will need him to perform if they are to win the WS....

True about Clemens. My statement had to do with something he said about Ausmus. He had said that Ausmus would have to be back next year if he were to play again. But this was before the hammys really starting to act up, and before his mother passed away, etc. So that probably does change things.

But..Another way to look at that: That's another 18 million available to spend.

And Clemens stays in the organization, I think. Wasn't that part of his signing on originally?

And on Ensberg, did you hear about the story with him being held at gunpoint in a hotel room, along with a couple other minor league players, during a spring training a few years back? Pretty wild stuff.

Yeah, he was held at gunpoint under a sheet. He mentioned that he was trying to stick his head out of the sheet so that they would know that they were killing humans rather than just shooting some bedding. That was a damn crazy story. Luckily they got out unscathed...at least physically.
