I'm sure some guys here must play these. I'm thinking of taking the plunge. Any thoughts/comments?

Well, I've owned Strat, BBW, DMB, OOTP, and PureSim. I used to be into the games for season replays, but I am hooked on fictional leagues now, so my game of choice is PureSim. (www.puresim.com)
For season replays, you really can't go wrong with DMB, but it gets expensive.
Haven't played the Strat offering in years, so maybe it's improved....

Hey Al (Padres Fan). Tell me a little more about puresim. Ive played OOTP howver I am more into managing the game on the field then being the GM. I feel OOTP lacks a little in the baseball gameplay itself. Is puresim better--I like the chess match of a baseball game- - I dont "sim games", I play them out.
Thanx for the help.

Honestly, the chess-match aspect of the game is where PureSim currently falls a little short of OOTP or any of the other games. PureSim was originally conceived as a game with more of a GM slant, so the on-field game management features are still not quite as strong as many would like them. (Of all the games mentioned, I believe DMB is your best bet if you are looking for the chess-match).MUTTS wrote:Hey Al (Padres Fan). Tell me a little more about puresim. That being said, I absolutely love playing the games out in PureSim, much more than OOTP. Instead of just text, the game engine draws a simple graphic over the field depicting where the ball has been hit, and there is a moment of hesitation as you wait to see if the result is a hit, and out, or an error. I also find the UI much nicer, and the program is just much easier to navigate in general.
Both OOTP and PureSim allow you to import past teams/seasons from the free Lahman Database. Each of the two sims are ratings based, not stats based, so historical players will not always post the same numbers in the game as they did in real life.
Back to the on-field gameplay... Both games produce very believeable stats, it's just that OOTP gives you one or two more managerial options, and has a wider variety of play results. I fully expect PureSim to improve in this area in the coming versions.
Hope that helps... Al
