MLB adminstrators are pissed off because Red Sox-Yankees get some huge ratings when compared to a possible Angels-ChiSox ALCS.

There's no doubt about that. The ratings will go down if neither make it to the ALCS. But my appreciation will go up.

That's their own f***in fault. Maybe if they spent time marketing more teams than just the Yankees and Red Sox there'd be more fan interest in other teams. The story of the White Sox is very similar to the one of the Red Sox last year. For christs sake they haven't won a postseason series since 1917. The MLB administrators can go f*** themselves until they get a clue how to market their league. How can a baseball purist not love the White Sox team this year? They rely on pitching, defense, small ball, and good old-fashioned hard work to win.

What's funny about that Scoop is that all of the people here in LA on Sports Radio are bitching and complainging that Joe Morgan and Jon Miller were just jocking the hell out of the Yankees during the game and basically criticizing the Angels any chance they got. I didn't get to watch the game but it sounds about right...those guys are the biggest Sox/Yankee homers (if they are involved in the game that is, otherwise they are pretty unbiased).

Oh yeah...and the Sox are damn fun to watch. They play the game the right way, that's for sure. That's a testament to Ozzie Guillen...one of my favorite guys in MLB.

Morgan has done a 180 on this. During the first half of the Yankees run, he was pretty harsh on the Yankees. It was obvious he thought they threatened the place of his Big Red Machine, and he came across as pretty anti-Yankee, anti-AL.

He was certainly kissing Yankee ass last night though, in a big way. I'm a Yankee fan, too, and LA sports radio has it right.

The announcing crew last night was driving my wife crazy. She kept yelling things like "get off the Yankees jock." Pretty funny stuff.

Scoop, I'm with you on MLB's marketing efforts. Why haven't they hyped up the White Sox incredible streak of losing? What about Vlad leading the Angels? Why were teams like the A's and Twins ignored by the national broadcasts in the last few years?

I get so freaking pissed off when Red Sox-Yankees will be on national TV for each game of their series if it falls on a Friday-Sunday. They'll get ESPN for Friday, Fox game of the week on Saturday, and then ESPN Sunday Night Baseball on Sunday night.

How about the best team in baseball playing day games at home and now tonight at 10pm cst? Baseball's playoff marketing is a joke and so is Dud Selig.

Scoop:

I think I recall reading that Major League Baseball never had a marketing department until after the strike of 1994. I could be wrong on that, but it does stick in my brain.

Take care,

LOL. The game starts at 11PM for a large portion of the country. I wonder what the worst ratings ever are for a playoff game?

Dude, they are playing the Padres...no one cares about the impending sweep. If they were playing LA, Atlanta or whomever else, they woulda been in prime time for sure. The Padres were going to screw whatever fans follow the team they are playing. That's just all there is to it.

Yeah, but it still ticks me off. I care, just as you would care if the Braves were on at 10-11 o'clock tonight. It just sucks you bust ass all year long and then rewarded with a s*** schedule. I know it's $$$$ what f'n isn't nowdays?

Last year the Braves had three afternoon games out of 5 against the Astros...so I know the feeling. You're going to be finished with the Pads tonight anyway so don't worry, you'll get the rest in Prime Time.

I feel asleep when it was 7-0. :)

Now dammit, get your Braves in gear and cheer them to victory today!!

I'm a bit surprised the Astros are going with Backe today instead of Pettitte, but I guess that would set them up well with St. Louis if they win. A loss would probably setup a Smoltz - Pettitte matchup in Atlanta and well, would be quite a game to watch.

Game ended this morning at 2:17 a.m. EST.

Here's a link from the St. Louis paper that talks about Selig being in bed with the tv people. If my memory serves, the Cardinals got screwed with a late game last year, too, when they played the Dodgers out on the west coast in the NLDS.

On a side note, has anyone looked at the TV schedule for the next round yet? The schedule at foxsports.com seems to indicate that NLCS Game 1 and ALCS Game 2 will be "split-national" next Wednesday night. Does that mean that I may not get to see the Cardinal game on tv at all (I'm in Atlanta) if the 'Stros beat the Braves? If so, that really sucks. Here's the foxsports link:

Smoltz is not pitching again in this series...it'll be Ramirez or Thomson if it goes 5. His shoulder is just a mess right now.

When have pro sports not been in bed with TV?

TV pays the bills, they've always called the shots for scheduling and it will always be that way.

Great seeing the Bravos jump out to an early 4-0 lead today...hope they can make it stick. As a Cardinals fan, I don't care who wins, but it would be nice to see 'em both have to go 5 games.

You'd much rather face the Braves...come on now. Who wants to face Pettite/Clemens/Oswalt in a series?

In a 7 game series, I think I would rather face the Stros than the Braves. We handled the Stros pretty good during the year (10-4 at one point, before losing the last couple at the end of the year), but were pretty evenly matched against the Bravos (I think the season series was 4-3). I know what you're saying about Pettite, Oswalt and Clemens, but we beat them last year and the kids on the Braves and Farnsworth at the end both scare me. The Stros, meanwhile, don't have any hitting, Beltran is long gone who killed us last year, and Berkman looks like he can barely move out there. In 7 games, I would like our chances.
